Those were teh good ol days...

Those were the times... I read this issue recently and it was sooooo good. I especially liked the article about Killer Instinct. :)

I miss the days where you could open up a magazine and find the latest news and previews. I guess the Internet is to blame!

The last 'thick' EGM issue I've seen was the Halo 2 issue. The one in November 2002 that revealed a bunch of new features that never made it to the game

Oh wait, do you mean the thickness of the cover or the actual mag?

OH MY......GOD I thought I was the only one who noticed and was annoyed by this over the years! :lol

They used to be nooo nice and feature packed....and the ad page count was even LOWER!!!!!

How bout this bad boy!?! haha...I miss the big magazines too. I can go through an EGM in a day now, but part of that has to do with the internet...

Yeah the glory days although the current staff is more entertaining.

They had an awsome import coverage section back there.
Pages and pages of future games we would recieve, or at least hope to.

Cue EGM staffer telling us they were never thick.

Just try pointing us to CNN this time, bitches! *waves fat magazine in air*

I remember having to tape my X-Men Dec 1994 issue because it was falling apart at the glue. Awesome stuff. I used to read EGMS until they were dust and then some, waiting for the next issue to come out. I think my most read issue was Oct 1993 (with Super Street fighter on the cover). Ed Semrad used to my my hero. Even moreso after I read in CJ's blog about what a prick he was.

Remember when Jon Davison was the editor and they would have those horrible, horrible covers back in 1998? The shit Tekken 3 cover. The shit MGS cover. Very ugly stuff.

I think the ugliest cover would have to go to April 1992 with Super Double Dragon as the cover feature. It had a VERY poorly drawn billy and jimmy lee on it against a VG-background. If you can find it, take a look.

Coolest cover. The Feb 1992 Street Fighter 2 Cover. Ken in Blanka's stage. Screenshot from an arcade cab. Ken punching. Yellow text. Simple and sweet and everything I love about games (ie, cool 2d sprites).

I saw the December issue on the newstands recently and scoffed at how few the pages were. Just a couple of years ago the Nov-Jan issues used to be pretty thick, but ever since the redesign the number of pages and content have dropped a fair bit especially with the previews and feature stories (remember the huge-ass Ocarina of Time cover story -- that was sweet!).

I used to buy the magazine on a regular basis, but nowadays I don't feel as if I'm getting value for my money (it's about AU$15 here in Oz -- up some AU$7 a from 2 years back), I have to be content with the digital version.

Which reminds me... I'm off to download the Feb issue.

They up the price, reduce the pages, and consistently dish out boring, unoriginal content. They blame it on paper prices. And poor ad revenue.

EGM got lazy and lost the talent. Simple as that. Maybe it's ZD holding them back... I wish I know.

These days, EGM does get pretty thick at times. But they're thick with ads and not content, like in the old days......

Best EGM 90s cover: The Super Street Fighter II one that also heralded one of many re-designs for the mag those days.

Sadly, I threw out all those thick EGMs years ago.

They up the price
mid 90's EGM scan above = $4.99
feburary 2005 issue EGM on my lap = $4.99

reduce the pages
only the holiday-time issues of old EGM were insanely thick. and EGM had 13 issues in 2004, so while the holiday issues were thinner, there were also more of them (between dec. issue and jan. issue there was a "holiday" issue.)

as to whether EGM reads better in the past or now, well... i suppose that's a matter of taste.

I'm still just happy they finally stopped glueing ads to the covers. Thick or not, I still enjoy most of the mag, EGM always comes up with the best special features imo.

EGM was once so big they launched that attrocity known as EGM 2
Wish I still had the first one with Kintaro on the cover

Memories I lied I enjoyed the mag to supplement my love for EGM
I been reading EGM consistantly since the Desert Strike cover.

I've got the first two years or so of EGM2. wish I hadn't canceled my subscription, as they canceled the magazine shortly after. Would have been nice to have the entire run. I also have 99% of EGM issues from February 1992 and on.

If I could be apart of any magazine it would be EGM.
Make fun of my grammatical errors and punctuation crumbs!
Why do you think they have editors....
Shoe could use the extra work
Forget EGM survivor vote Kinesis Koncrite!

Does anyone remember the December issue of PC Gamer (US) from around 97 or so? It had a white cover (white all around, I think, instead of the usual black) and was a full-fucking inch thick.

My buttocks were quite sore from sitting on the toilet for 3 hours reading that one, let me tell you.

I should have that issue.

I wish I kept some of those. :(

They seriously need to do something about their current magazine. Even if it means using cheaper paper. I don't care I want the thickness. Those old EGM's were the shit :~(

I remember when they used to run full strategy guides for games (Samurai Shodown II and Breath of Fire II particularly stick in my mind) and actually had previews with substance (as in, "full page spread with at least 5 sceenshots) instead of the two screenshots and "it's coming soon!" of today, and had less of an emphasis on the "hay guys we like Maxim too!" crap

Oh, you mean back when I actually bought EGM because I got my 5 bucks worth?

Yeah, I remember those. Still have a shit load of em from 1992-1995.

The one I remember was the Mortal Kombat 2 (or was it 3?) cover. That thing was so big, it dwarfed some of my textbooks in my backpack when I was that age!

Lol i had one under a table leg for like a year to keep it from wobbling. Old EGM's were the perfect size for wobble stopping.

I even remember when EGM used to cover games, rather than fill the magazine with thinly disguised press releases and celebrity gamer shit.
