Anyone skipped the Wii U but excited for the NX?

I'm someone who bought every Nintendo console since the NES, but entirely skipped the Wii U.

Between the gamepad, the high entry price, the underpowered hardware, the not very interesting software (imo) etc I just didn't bother.

Weirdly I'm finding myself very excited for the NX though. The hybrid console/handheld format should allow me to access all the interesting 3rd party support Nintendo handhelds get in console format (I don't really enjoy playing on portables), and could make up for interesting new experiments. That and it should also help solving the software drought problems that have been plaguing Nintendo consoles since the N64.

If the price is right I think Nintendo could hit really big with the NX.
 
No. Nintendo do not comment on rumours and speculation so I sure as hell am not getting hyped about them.

I need to see Nintendo's plan. Getting stuck with another console that has like 5 very good titles spread across the calendar year and fuck all else but shovelware or nothing at all isn't going to fly this time.
 
I didn't skip the Wii U but I don't like the system at all. I'm way more interested in Nintendo as a handheld company, so I'm probably 50x as hyped for this thing than I was for the Wii U.
 
Depends on exactly what the NX is. I only play portable, won't play on a TV. So I'll be excited about NX if the pure portable experience is solid.
 
Might be getting an NX specifically for the new Zelda. I like the Wii U and it has a good library, I could just never justify buying it when I already have a decent PC and a PS4. But BOTW is everything I've wanted from a Zelda from what I've seen.
 
While I grew up with Nintendo consoles, their handhelds is what makes up the majority of my gaming. I skipped the Wii U but I don't skip Nintendo handhelds.
 
It's hard to be excited with so little facts and so much rumours that I have no idea knowing what is true. But i'm extremely curious. I have skipped Gamecube, Wii and Wii U. I've played the former two though, never owned the systems myself. Never had a chance to play Wii U unfortunately. At this point Nintendo is only company that can make me buy a console though.
 
Nope. All of the news so far about NX in terms of the direction Nintendo is taking this thing has actually lowered my hype a great deal. At this point, I'm more excited to pick up a Wii U on fire sale after the NX launch. I've been slowly collecting Wii U games over the past year or so in anticipation...hoping for a really good Black Friday deal on a Wii U bundle...not holding my breathe and am patient. But unless NX blows me away, I don't expect to get one for 2-3 yrs at the earliest.
 
I like my Wii U, although I dont have that many games for it.

Most excited about the fact that all first party titles are going to be on one platform. A Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Mario Kart, Spla2n, Pokemon, Mario etc all on one console? Sounds good to me.
 
I bought WiiU day one, though I ended up selling it after about 2 years, since there wasn't that much coming and I already had a gaming PC, Xbox One and 3DS...I regret a bit that choice, even with few titles I still think it's a good console.
Now i'm super excited for NX, for the rumors of it being both handheld and home console, that would make its line up terrific, also i'd love to be able to play everywhere and also in a big TV whenever I want, let's just hope they'll announce it soon and that March 2017 is still the launch date
 
I should have, but I got one this summer. No regrets...well maybe a little, not a lot of good solo games, lot of great party games though, just don't have many friends to play with. Secretly hoping for BC so I can sell it for the NX, if not BC then I'll keep it because it's still a pretty cool system.

Going to homebrew the crap out of it, once official support is over (almost there XD)
 
Skipped Wii U but owning Nintendo consoles is not a common thing of mine(only ever owned two). I'm honestly excited only for the games. The system itself being a handheld or "hybrid" for the people that call it that does't interest me at all as it's just an admission fee. If there is a good selection of games that interest me then purchasing the device would be opinion I consider.
BotW is definitely something I would get but I need other games to validate my purchase as well.

No I haven't really liked a Nintendo console Since N64. GameCube was OK Wii and Wiiu were awful. Nes and Snes are two of my favorite consoles ever but the nostalgia is gone.
 
I am! I travel a lot, so the portability concept of the NX is very appealing to me. I'm also crossing my fingers with BC so I can play Wii U games. I'm holding off until either that's announced/or confirmed to not happen with NX before I buy a Wii U.

You mean you're not excited for a hybrid console / conventional console / portable / projector based handheld the plugs into a TV that is similar / more powered than a PS4 / is three GameCubes duct taped together which has similar architecture to the other consoles so third party support will be encouraged / is like the Sega Saturn and PS3 had a baby so you need a PhD to read the dev kit instruction manual?
 
Well the WiiU was the only system that I felt okay to sell for something else...so yeah I'm going all in with the NX. I came in late into the WiiU's life cycle and only played a few games.

The fact that this console will have a Zelda at or near launch is hugely exciting to me.
 
I want in on the new Zelda but would prefer to buy the new console to play it. WiiU is the first Nintendo console I have skipped. Came close to picking one up in several occasions but always missed the good deals. Here's hoping the NX is decently priced.
 
I like the WiiU and bought one a couple of years ago, but I'm excited about the NX because it's also the successor to the 3DS rather than their home consoles. Their portable line has actually had third-party support for the last few years, so I'm interested to see how new versions of games like Monster Hunter, Etrian Odyssey and Bravely Default in addition to Fire Emblem and Zelda work on both a portable and on the few occasions I bother to play games on the telly these days. I'm really interested to see how Zelda BotW is going to look/work on a portable device too.
 
Yeah I am in the same boat as you OP, played every Nintendo console a lot except for Wii U. Still hoping for backwards compatibility because there is actually plenty of Wii U games I'd want to play though. If there's no backwards compatibility I'm thinking about picking up a cheap Wii U at some point.

Fair nuff. What I liked about Wind Waker was the adventurous and free spirit it offered, and BOTW seems to be kind of like that but on land, but hey, who knows. We won't really know what it's like and how much we'll like it till it's out, and we're free to judge what we've seen according to our tastes.
 
Yep. Really excited about being able to switch between TV and handheld. Also,we have a 1 year old who I wish to grow up with Nintendo games (let's hope the eStore is well stocked with classics). Finally: Zelda!
 
I just want to see what a hybrid console looks and plays like. This is something I think Sony has wanted to accomplish for years with PSP.

And no, Zelda doesn't count, because it's on Wii U too. And nothing about the NX rumors seems to indicate it's going to be a superior verison.
 
Skipped the Wii u and don't ever intend to buy one. Which will be the first Nintendo console I've skipped.

That's OK though, cos I'm sure Nintendo will win me over with the NX and that should have ports of some of the best wii u games anyway.
Really looking forward to the reveal / announcement.
