I'm so upset.

Why did this have to happen. This was looking to be the biggest Smash/Nintendo community push ever. The stars were all aligned and so many things were ready to go down.

And then all of this happened.

Urgh.

From Alex Jebailey...

Smash WiiU room is officially closed for the weekend which also includes FGC fighters. Melee room is closed as well today for inspection...

After inspection Melee ballroom could possibly open up again tomorrow. We're discussing running matches in hotel rooms until tomorrow.

After this weekend I'm definitely helping Apex crew get legal council against this hotel for approving rooms after the storm unofficially.

....;~; WHY ;~;....

There was a damaged support beam in the 2nd ballroom and a whole slew of fire violations in/around the 1st ballroom that are stopping things

It was promised beforehand that the room was deemed safe; we are finding out this morning that the fire marshal is saying it isn't.

The Apex hotel made a lot of promises it couldn't uphold. The Internet is much worse than stated, and one of the ballrooms was not safe.

How does this happen??? Why is the inspection taking place NOW of all times???

Sad part is that you know there's people in the FGC that are so happy to see this happen.

Oh, man. Much as I tease the Smash community and all, sucks for all the people that put in effort to make this happen.

Someone pulled the fire alarm. When the fire department shows up, along with the marshal, they say "Yo wtf is all this damage, why is this room in use?", and subsequently shuts it down as a safety hazard.

Okay to recap... this APEX has already been rocked by a sexual harassment scandal- the hotel didn't provide the internet connection they reserved- and now the building might collapse on the players?

Jesus Christ...

Apparently the venue DID do an inspection after the storm and deemed it... somehow... okay for the tournament (this is days ago). They were going to risk everyone's lives just to keep the event going, I think, and... well... get whatever money they were from the APEX staff.

Had the emergency exit door not triggered a fire alarm and the Fire Dept. hadn't shown up I think the event would have been underway and there were chances people could have gotten hurt.

Yeah, I would've thought they would've had the place inspected yesterday or something

Knowing the Smash Community though, I think they'll make the best of the situation though

Another update from Jebailey.

TLDR: Apex is at a halt. Both ballrooms closed. Everyone asked to return to rooms until further notice. Staff can't even get setups out.

And GimR is going to run a hotel room stream, hopefully maybe we'll get tournament sets still??? (Though I don't think so seeing as Jebailey says they can't get the setups out).

Stay positive guys. I'm packing my bare bones equipment up now and I'm gonna at least have a hotel room stream for y'all

Edit:

I see people in tears. Folks poured their hearts into this event. #Apex2015

Goddamn... why... WHY did the venue think it was safe??? Unreal.

The fire alarm going off may turn out to be a blessing in disguise if the venue really is unfit to host the games.

Guy who pulled the fire alarm must have been from the Final Destination movies...

But in all seriousness, what a mess. The hotel better get in big trouble for all this.

Oh for sure, if it was a prank fire alarm he might unintentionally have been a hero that could averted some serious stuff. This sucks hardcore but nothing is more sacred then the safety of the people.

Man who would have thought an accidental fire alarm would have lead to people actually being protected.

Yea it sucks that APEX has been halted but people's lives were in danger and that comes first.

Must've been the Project M dudes that pulled the fire alarm...ok maybe its not that great of a joke.

I don't get it, if the venue was pretty bad don't they have enough sponsorship to get a bigger and better venue?

I'll be honest. We ran East Coast Throwdown 2014 at the same venue, and the place was sketchy. The staff is nice, but the hotel just felt very....off. That "ballroom" that's now condemned honestly looked like the basement level of a parking garage that was refitted into a ballroom. The floor was uneven as hell and the ceilings were incredibly low. I'm talking 8' high at best. Dimly lit, too. Just looked too sketchy, so we decided to use the Imperial Ballroom instead. I hope they can turn this stuff around and get something back on track. I really feel for the players who traveled from all over to be here. This was going to be my first Apex :(

Gonna be hard to find a new venue right away though, and people who traveled to compete can't wait forever for a new location.
