What's interesting is that Smash 4 pools were awesome. The Luigi's were super exciting, it seemed like people were doing more interesting things. I honestly hope the meta evolves to favor that stuff over what we're seeing in top 8.

I still think Smash 4 is rad though.

Too much time in between matches. How many coaches do these guys need that come in from the back of the warehouse?

A lot of time wasted inbetween games and matches. I'm at least glad no one will think 3 stocks would be a good idea in a major event for smash 4

Less exposure because they are less known streams. VGBC is more well known and if Melee is on display it will get more clicks.

Sure, but VGBC became more well known because of Melee so it makes sense to keep Melee on there.

M2K and Zero won doubles in Smash 4 though.

Yeah and that impressed me. After playing Sonic in Smash 4 I literally could no longer play him in PM.

Ganon is different in Smash 4, but I consciously don't play him to avoid effecting my Melee Ganon.

Just saying, swapping games is hard and being successful despite that is impressive.

he lost this match AGAIN (sheik dittos vs shroomed)

-play more melee pls

-poss consider narrowing your character pool (no way he's going to play marth vs puff any time soon, so this is unlikely)

-get a sponsor so your tourney winnings don't eat your extra cash/decrease stress from dealing with triforce

oh well at least his mindset took a small step forward

Whatever happens, I'm glad that Smash 4 is getting the main-stage for this right now. Having it shuttered off to a side-stream at the biggest Smash event in the country for its first major would be a horrible look that I don't think it ever would have recovered from. People can be hype for Melee if they want, but I'll be depressed if that's still the only competitive Smash that anybody wants to develop for another 6+ years.

Yeah, completely agree. Melee just looks so ugly.

as a guy who only plays smash 4 even I would say that VGbootcamp should be hosting melee...

That would make things take even longer. I swear the people who keep suggesting this, why do you think they can just magically have the games swapped and be done with it? Or have you all forgotten the downtime between games? Swapping the games/streams is NOT a feasible solution.

Why am I even entertaining these posts? It's like nobody is bothering to take a minute and think anymore, what with all the doom and gloom posts.

Yeah, I wouldn't be worried yet. I think if EVO top 8 are like these then it might be a big issue, but players have a plenty of months to come up with Hype tactics.

If they're running short on time why not have Melee start on another channel while Smash 4 finishes up and then make the switch once they're done (might be in the semi-finals by then). It's not ideal but if they have a hard limit of midnight then that's the best option to get everything in.

Look, the issue is not Smash 4. The issue is the damn tournament finishing ON TIME instead of the players getting dicked over by the venue potentially kicking them out.

If they want to finish this, at this point, since they've committed to Bo5 for everything now for Smash 4 they need to have some matches offstream OR on another stream (aka teamsp00ky). Not kicking it off of VGBC completely but putting loser's sets on the other stream once it's done with 64.

The concern is the tournament finishing at all. They are running a risk where the venue may kick them out at midnight like last night and I have not heard anything about if that's still the case or not but if it is something has to give here. Oh and ban coaching.

It's less about Melee being ugly to me, more just that it seems really closed-minded for people to shit on a brand new game so quickly into its lifespan, so much of the scene doesn't even want to try to adapt. It's weird and in a way a bit fascinating to me, because you don't really see it in other FGC scenes. People might have their favorites, but it's not like you're going to see much of a push in the coming years for SF Third Strike to be a main game at EVO in lieu of Street Fighter V, regardless of whether SF5 is slower-paced or whatever else.

You know...I really think the pool commentators would be better. Also, the shout outs could be better.

I agree, the EE/Coney team yesterday had a really good mix of humor and analysis thrown in, and there were other sets throughout the day that worked well. Sky and D1 feel very polished and very "corporate," so I can understand why they have this gig, but they're not doing a great job of conveying much fun-factor.

Wait until EVO! You're going to see so many ask "when's Mahvel!"

True, but Marvel will be the third biggest game there behind SFIV4 and Melee

Yeah, people say this and it's pretty clear that they don't know anything about Melee. It's like asking MvC players to start playing MvC4 if MvC4 suddenly played like SFIV. Melee players don't have a similar game to play in feel so they have no choice.

SF5 will at least be in the same ballpark in terms of "feel."

Frankly the biggest problem has been the very bad decision of having best out of 5 too early in the bracket.

This. As someone who plays and is only mostly interested Smash 4 but just casually watches Melee sometimes they're dragging this out waaaaay too long, especially if they were already running behind and that wasn't in the rules to begin with (last I looked only LF/WF/GF were supposed to be 3/5). It's also not fair to Melee if they're going to have to run top 8 matches offstream or offsite if they do indeed have a hard midnight time cap. Fuck, at this point I'm probably not even going to be able to finish watching Smash 4 this is running so late lol.

Also yeah, he seems like a cool dude but Sky isn't the best commentator. They're also both trying WAY TOO HARD on the sponsor shoutouts.

Yeah, true. We'll get tons of complaints about Melee too, for taking too long. Like last year. I had to stay out of the thread for awhile cause the negativity was starting to get to me.

Reread your wording and I'm still not getting it, haha. But okay, we're on the same page.

Yeah, seriously. Time to do more chores.

He said "Hypocrisy? It's just the same solution. Those who wants to watch Melee will switch stream."

And my reply was saying yeah they would switch streams, but Melee would get more clicks if it was on VGBC because it is associated with VGBC more. And getting more clicks is better since more ad revenue.

I was arguing for Smash 4 to be on Sp00ky's stream since it won't be able to get as many viewers as Melee.

Yeah, it's funny to see the same complaints that Marvel/SF fans had about Melee at Evo in the past 2 years is now coming from the Melee fans about Smash 4.

This is not what is going on here. The tournament is big. Plenty of people actively play this game.

These commentators seem so disingenuous right now. Fake excitement.

And spouting "I am blown away" and "that was incredible" every 5 seconds doesn't make it impressive. Get the guys from before back in here.

Holy shit it's not about hating the game it's the tournament itself it's not ON TIME and they could've avoided this if Smash 4 was Bo3 until WFs, LFs, and GFs and banned coaching. They should be doing Loser's side offstream right now to make up for all this lost time.

Then they could actually finish the tournament before getting kicked out at midnight (and allowing everyone to see what they want to see).
