On the other hand, the leather and metal bands look great:

Can't imagine how anyone thinks these two look worse than, say, this:

I don't think anyone is arguing that it looks worse than Samsung's half-baked crap. I'm certainly not.

But it's considerably uglier than the Moto 360. It will probably function better, but aesthetically, the 360 blows it away.

Can't wait until the price points for different versions are revealed.
the reactions to the 18k watch pricepoints are gonna be awesome :D

edit: looks pretty nice in photos

I do not get this insane hate at all. I thought at first it might be clunky, but looking at some of the pictures of them on people's wrists, it looks pretty awesome. I mean, I'm not sure if I would get one yet, but that's how I felt about the iPhone (smart phones in general) and the iPad (tablets in general), so I'm willing to let Apple wow me with this thing. I can't wait to try it at one of the Apple stores.

Haha, there are absolutely a number of posts in the stream thread saying Samsung's looks better.

The Moto 360 I could see an argument for.

But you are augmenting it. It is like an extension of that device that is already in your pocket!

How dumb is someone going to feel if they get an Apple watch, maybe after not owning a watch before and reach into their pocket to pull out their phone with the same hand that has the Apple watch on it to check the time.

The problem is with the Apple Watch is that it tries to cram in apps already on your phone on your wrist so that you don't have to use your phone. I'd rather it be something like Pebble where the phone handles notifications, music and a few other small things that you shouldn't need to grab your phone for. Android Wear is closer by making a focus on notifications but it still misses the point a bit.

I just watched their video review of the Moto 360. My favorite quote: "It's smaller than it looks".

What does that even mean?
Initial Internet response was "That watch looks huge."

After the hands-on, The Verge was calming that concern by telling people it's not as big as the initial images made it seem.

Screams Gen 1 device. Maybe after a couple generations it will be more refined and I will be more interested.

This thing will sell like hot cakes either way.

It's definitely better-looking than the Gear.

But I'd say it's pretty much on par with the Gear 2/Gear Live in the looks department.

What's the appeal of this device or any Smart Watch vs. an iPhone?

It's not a "vs" situation. Smart watches are largely going to be compliments and extensions to/of your smart phone. The only time it will replace it is probably for fitness purposes where you won't want to carry your phone while jogging or whatever.

I don't get the hate. I think it looks fantastic. Very futuristic. Something I would expect people wearing in movies like Minority Report, Avatar, 2001, or Star Trek/Star Wars.

Looks like a Sony but I'll wait until I can hold one in my hands. And of course, the apps will be the defining factor.

Gunmetal one doesn't look too bad.

This is one of my favorite configurations for the watch. The Space Black Stainless Steel is my favorite one.

I actually really like the look of this watch. I think it's the crown that does it for me.

So Hollywood movies that released in theaters 6 years to 4 decades ago prescribe chic and applicable fashion sense for you. Interesting.

I feel bad for the watch enthusiasts who have to make the tough call of showing off their $5,000 watch or their brand new $350 iWatch. I smell a 90's multiple-watch fashion comeback!

They couldn't design an uglier watch, coming from Apple: WTF?

I was expecting something like the beautiful Moto 360 with Apple's design philosophy and premium finish. =(

I still don't get smart watches. It's less useful than a phone, but requires both hands to operate? I'd rather get my phone out of my pocket while leaving one hand free to use than to use both hands to operate a cramped interface.

Also, as with anything Apple, something that has been proven with every single product release in their entire history, wait for the second version.
