Hmm, it doesn't just require an iPhone, but an iPhone 5 or up.

I guess this isn't a big deal for early adopters who probably have newer iPhones anyway. Still though.

I dig the metal/metal of the standard apple watch, reminds me of a casio digital

the god/burnt sienna band combo looks nice as well:

those sports bands just bring it all down several notches. functionality wise, not really that interested in them, too much reliance on an iphone from what I can see.
I like that metal one too.

The lack of a GPS in the sport hurts, but running or biking is probably the only time I'd really wear the thing. I've never even bought a watch in my entire life.

Wow that is shit.
I thought atleast that it wouldnt require an iphone or any phone, and that it could had been used as an mp3 player, but nope. Its design is worst then other smartwatches.

LOL... this just popped up on the Apple Live Blog:

By Ellen DeGeneres:
So excited for the Apple Watch. For centuries, we’ve checked the time by looking at our phones. Having it on your wrist? Genius. #AppleLive

Can't believe this made it to their official live blog!

Edit:

It's so incredibly ugly both in hardware and software. It'll probably control great, but it still looks bad. I don't see anything this device has even over the Gear watches other than probably app support and controls--just as (if not more) ugly, same feature set, same misconception of what people want on their wrists.

I don't want to replace my phone, I want to augment it.

Just curious since I don't really follow smart watches, is there anything special about these compared to the other smart watches already released? Anything innovative?

I got a watch in 2004 at Longs Drugs for $10, still works great, still have never had to change my batteries out. Last thing I need is another device to charge, especially a watch of all things.

I ordered this instead of the Apple Watch today, $7 shipped:

This has to be a joke.

An iPhone is required?

Nailed it.
I sold an ipod because after updating it to ios7 the thing would not work on my main pc which is running Linux. So I couldn't do shit with it except view the camera album.
If I was looking for a smart watch, the iwatch would be my pick but requiring another apple product to get full use of it would instantly take it out of contention.

The amt of android fanboy salt in this thread omg.

Thing actually looks useful unlike the shit we've seen so far.

Lol, can't get over how bad it looks given Ive's talking it up about how it would be a massive threat to Swiss watch design. If anything it's one of the poorer looking Smart watches out there, not to mention it's not even that smart given it requires an iPhone.

I think I know why I'm constantly thinking 'younger market, younger market'. All these wrist band combinations remind me of Swatch watches, which I instantly associate with kids for some reason. (I guess because I stopped seeing anyone wear Swatch after early high school - do they make 'older' watches too?)

EXTREMELY disappointed

I was hoping apple's smartwatch would have a watch that looks as good as the moto 360

it just looks so bland... everything.. from the UI to the overall outer design

this is moto 360 for comparison

Pretty neat. Withings Activité is still prettier :)

Given that it isn't all that smart watch.

As a huge Smart watch nerd.....

Not much really, it has Siri, just like Google has "ok google"

The only thing that I like above all others is the scroll wheel; something that I wish Android Wear had, I love how you can control the Pebble smartwatch with buttons instead of having to touch the screen, it becomes second nature and you find doing stuff with your watch without even looking at it.

But you are augmenting it. It is like an extension of that device that is already in your pocket!

How dumb is someone going to feel if they get an Apple watch, maybe after not owning a watch before and reach into their pocket to pull out their phone with the same hand that has the Apple watch on it to check the time.

I missed the live announcement. so. um…
I don’t like the design. i don’t see anything this is doing that can’t be done on the other Android watches (I guess the health stuff? eh). It’s just another entry into the space. it’s not defining the category.

I’m someone who actually likes and wears watches but this has nothing to make me give up a decent Stowa. the design isn’t something I’d want to wear and the functionality is just like I thought it would be. So that’s not interesting enough to get me to use one.

Nope. Apparently the hype of today's announcement caused a few articles about goldeneye watches to come up in the news.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/8/6123573/goldeneye-007-watch-moto-360

Found it from this article, they had a link to reddit where it shows the process. You register on a site, it gives you a list of items you can choose from that are free with shipping, you click Metal Sports Watch, upload the image they have, and apply promo code clockwatches (which brings shipping down from 10.99 to 7.00).

Wait .. Is that the Goldeneye 64 watch?
Yes sir.

Lol man that looks terrible.
It's a watch that is $7 shipped, looks fine to me and well worth the money.

Holy shit I'm in love. I want this thing ASAFP. Digital touch is going to change the way we communicate in a hyper personal way.

I think it looks hideous. I am pretty interested in a moto one though, hopefully a new version comes out with a better battery.

I thought people may have been overreacting until I saw someone post that this thing doesn't have its own telecommunications technology in place? So wtf is the point of this thing?
