Apple announces Apple Watch

Wait what!? Where is this and how much! :0
It's an installable theme for the Samsung Galaxy Gear series of smart watches. It's got the proper sounds too and I believe you can change the color to the other 4 you can do in game (Amber, Blue, White, whatever the other one is).

I was crossing my fingers that they would psyche everyone out with the rumors and put out something more similar to the Neptune Pine but with all the might of Apple's engineering expertise. I am disappoint.

Not really seeing how this is ugly. The starting price is jarring, but I'm certain I'll see many of these at the office. Rich people like tech too, and the fitness app is a killer.

Holy shit that's cool, thanks for the info bud.

Two things ...

1) Can it be flipped? If not, no can use as a lefty. I'd assume they're not this dumb.

2) Does their literature show off all the available watch faces? Because the traditional ones shown thus far are pretty ugs. Switzerland should worry by ass.

3) What is the display tech?

I knew it. Looks well engineered, but that's it.

It seems to me that most use for a smart watch is sports and outdoors, and that market is pretty much established already. Plus I really doubt that Apple will be able to compete with Suuntos and Garmins and Casios in usability.

$350 seems a bit steep for that watch, though I'm sure plenty of folks will buy it. I just won't be one of them.

How uncharacteristically ugly of Apple.

Honestly, I find the new iPhones pretty ugly, too.

Not a good direction for Apple's product designs, IMO.

This will fail. Not because people don't need it - many unnecessary electronics sell well. It will fail because a watch is primarily a individualized fashion statement, so you will look like a tool wearing it. I honestly believe they needed a minimum of 5 distinct varieties for this to become extremely popular. I personally wanted it to look like this:

I really don't see how the Apple Watch is "ugly" as a lot of people here are saying compared to that.

Watch is ugly, but the user interface looks excellent. I'll never wear one though just due to how it looks. A watch is pretty much the only jewelry a dude is allowed to wear, and I'm not giving up my Speedmaster for this. And $350 is way overpriced.

I sort of feel that Apple and all the other smart watch companies are solving a problem no one has with these wearables. Is pulling out your phone to check a text message really that much of a burden? If anything, doing things on the small screen seems more cumbersome and difficult than just using your phone. Sure it has the health and fitness aspects, but why can't those be replicated with a simple wristband and a companion app?

Maybe I'm being a debbie downer, but I don't see the point of these devices. What do they offer?

That LG smartwatch looks aesthetically better. I'm not a fan of Apple, but I won't deny that their products usually look sleek and above the curb. This design just seems lazy.

I dig the metal/metal of the standard apple watch, reminds me of a casio digital

the god/burnt sienna band combo looks nice as well:

those sports bands just bring it all down several notches. functionality wise, not really that interested in them, too much reliance on an iphone from what I can see.

Yeah, I think the sports bands are what really bring the look down. But the sports bands are clearly designed for comfort and not style.

I don't like it, looks really thick, could be uncomfortable with sleeves. It looks like a watch some actor in an 80's or 90's movie portraying the future would wear. Also no GPS? Fuck that.

First impression I'm reasonably impressed. In terms design they didn't do it any favours though, they kept showing the uglier straps, some variants looked pretty nice but we only got brief glimpses.

I think it will be popular but having as iPhone as a requirement gives it an artificial ceiling and feels like a mistake to me.

Not that I'm really interested in the watch, but why all that is holy do you need an iPhone to even use the watch? Makes 0 sense. And at $350? Yowza.

The watch was okay for what it is.

The new phones... yeah. I fear for my future upgrade.

I feel just the opposite. That watch is far far worse looking than I ever expected apple to make. Seriously, that's almost exactly what I would have guessed a 3rd or 4th gen Galaxy watch would look like.

The phone looks fine, imo, but yeah, it doesn't give you that "hey... that things pretty classy looking" feel that some of their prior designs do.

I only wear my watch when I have to look fashionable and checking the time is easy without worrying about battery.

Since it requires the phone, I feel like I'd rather take the extra second to reach for my phone than dick around on my wrist with more limited options.

A smart watch will work in the future when it's more of a cloned substitute and less of a companion interface to a phone.

I got a watch in 2004 at Longs Drugs for $10, still works great, still have never had to change my batteries out. Last thing I need is another device to charge, especially a watch of all things.

I ordered this instead of the Apple Watch today, $7 shipped:

The user interface is incredibly beautiful and smooth. The watch looks very sleek. I can't believe some people are calling it ugly. No design sense I guess.

2 sizes, 3 lines, lots of bands. Starts at $349... I can't wait to see people with their Apple laptops\ipads, iPhones and Apple watches at the local coffee shop.

A lot of people said the same thing about the ipad and what it had to offer over a laptop. UI and the feel of navigating it go a long way,

Yeah, and only you were born with design sense right and everyone else is stupid?
