Yep, because Apple Care is not returns--it's standard warranty service. Like if there was a problem with your Samsung device, you can return it to Best Buy OR get it fixed by Samsung. The nice thing about Apple Care is that you usually don't need to ship your stuff to some warranty service center--the service center is at the Apple Store.captive said:even if you bought it at best buy and didnt buy the any of the warranty crap they try to sell you?

I wouldn't bother for that price unless you really really want 3G and can't afford $629 for a new one. At that price I'd much rather have a new 16GB wifi model. I'd only look at an older one at under $400, ideally closer to $300.TylerD said:Just got off the phone with Target and they have an OG ipad 16gb with 3g for 529.99. If i am mainly going to be using it for a web browser and streaming data from my desktop should I jump in? Or would the difference in browsing with the ipad2 be worth the wait and difficulty to acquire one? The plan would be to get the OG now and then ipad 3 when it comes out. I don't really care that much about gaming on it.
Apple's refurbs are like new, there's a reason people hold out for their refurbs. They're cheap and just as good as a new one but come in a brown box.BigNastyCurve said:Yah but that means I have to go to an Apple store in Chicago. And isn't the replacement a refurb (assuming they have any by then)?

I thought I would make a big deal out of it, but seriously it's never noticeable under regular use, I can only see it on a black screen, in a pitch black room.X-Frame said:I'm nervous that I'm waiting for my iPad to arrive at my house only to be disappointed with excessive backlight bleeding, forcing me to go to an Apple Store anyway to get it switched.
Have many of you returned/replaced yours already?
Is it going away as time goes on?
Even if it had magnets you should wait and see how much it weighs.Cloudy said:http://gizmodo.com/#!5782270/the-first-ipad-2-smart-cover-clones-are-here
Posted? First smart cover copy with back protection
No magnets, no sale IMO. I'll go with the smart cover and a sleeve for now![]()
I got mine for $398 (AU) and it still felt like good value. Don't regret it at all. Mine was new, but I'd imagine a refurb is just as good.Laekon said:The 1st gen 16gb Ipad is $349 on the Apple refurb store. That is pretty tempting.
Jasoco said:I don't get it. Why is it, even now with multi-tasking finally in place since 3.0, that when installing an app, it still takes you to the home screen? Thus forcing you to go back INTO the app in order to continue shopping. Why not just do it like Android and have it download in the background with an icon in the status bar that signifies something's downloading.
I hope iOS 5 fixes this.
Well it does, it's just not the traditional free for all type. There are rules, and iOS rules it's available resources with an iron fist.Ulairi said:iOS really doesn't do multi tasking.
Yeah, that's about the stupidest grievance with iOS I've ever heard.Jasoco said:I don't get it. Yeah it does. You can download apps while running others. Switching to the Home Screen is obviously a leftover quirk from the pre-multitasking days.Ulairi said:iOS really doesn't do multi tasking. It's not a quirk from the old ways, because Apple apps could always do special stuff. I bet Apple thinks of it as a feature.Jasoco said:Yeah it does. You can download apps while running others. Switching to the Home Screen is obviously a leftover quirk from the pre-multitasking days.
iOS is still OS X in a way. It can do multitasking. It's just the end user sees it in a different way. Music can play in the background because of it. Downloading can happen in the background because of it. It's obviously just leftover as there's really no reason to close App Store to download the app.
Unless they really think people need to know exactly where on the home screen the app will be going. In which case they could fix this by simply flashing the icon the next time you do go to the home screen.
You did get it before me. > <dallow_bg said:Got my 64GB black today!
Oh wow.... it does feel really nice in your hands. I didn't think I'd like he curves so much.
And the weight loss, though subtle, is wonderful.
SO THIN!
So much faster, I love it!
Everything loads much more quickly. Doing side by sides and there's no contest (still have my iPad 1 for now)
Loaded up one of my physics simulators, filled both screens with "water" and splashed them around.
Older iPad chugs and plays at ~15fps, the iPad 2 doesn't skip a beat and stays a perfect 60fps.
It does suck when I have multiple apps to purchase.esquire said:Yeah, that's about the stupidest grievance with iOS I've ever heard.
fwiw there is tweak for jailbroken iDevices to enable appstore downloads in the background.dallow_bg said:It does suck when I have multiple apps to purchase.
It already has an 'update all', would love a 'checkout all'.
Cheap shot. I've seen this problem on iOS too. Friends asking me why their iPhone is dying so quickly and they've got a couple email accounts on their phone set to push, left bluetooth and the gps on, push notifications for all those services, wifi constantly searching in the background and then the screen brightness on the highest. *shrug* I point them to Apple's battery saving tips and call it a day. At least on android, there is a feature to tell you what's using up the battery life.Jasoco said:There's two kinds of multitasking. The kind Apple has for App Store apps where you see one at a time but they can run services, and real multitasking which is reserved to certain OS processes like the music handler and the download handler and the phone handler, Wi-Fi handler, basically everything that needs to run in order for the device to work. These are all running at once. Apple only restricts the front end as a way to keep the system from being overloaded with apps all running at once even when they're not showing and taking away from the illusion of the OS by giving people bad experiences (Due to a memory hogging app killing the battery) and causing them to blame the platform.
I've seen this problem on Android. Too many applications and your battery dies in 5 hours or your system becomes too slow. Full multitasking on a portable device like a phone or tablet is not good. These devices don't have the same huge batteries laptops have. So they have to conserve power as best as they can. It's not good for battery or processes.
These are the reasons Apple is so bent on keeping full multitasking and holds a tight reign over what apps go on the device. To preserve the user experience.
Yes.shantyman said:My Wife's has horrible backlight bleeding as reported (she actually mentioned it to me it was so bad). Is Apple replacing these units?
yea my coworker and i did some comparisons yesterday. We started the weather channel app and mine was loaded into the radar while his was still showing splash screens. pretty big difference.dallow_bg said:Got my 64GB black today!

Really, really, really hard. The Int3rsect said:I haven't really been paying attention to the iPad 2 at all but just recently been interested. How hard is it actually to find one in stores right now?
It's not counterproductive if their goal is to produce lines for the news cameras.Tedesco! said:I wonder why the stores aren't aware of what is being shipped to them at any given day. It seems counter productive.

So what you would like is a shopping cart added to the App Store/iTunes Store apps, not multitasking. That's fair, but simultaneous downloads probably wouldn't be allowed due to performance issues.dallow_bg said:It does suck when I have multiple apps to purchase.

I wasn't talking about supply issues, I was talking about the fact that the stores don't know which models or how many come in each shipment. They clearly have a low supply and I agree with you that there's no way that that's artificial/intentional; however, as long as they know they're going to sell every iPad basically as soon as it hits a store, they might as well keep the stores from knowing what's going to arrive since that (a) speeds up and simplifies shipping and (b) means that people will be lining up constantly every morning without even knowing whether anything's gonna arrive.commish said:What would be more effective for Apple:

You can download a bunch of apps at once if you're updating them; they just download one at a time, but it only takes pressing the "Update All" button and typing in your password.esquire said:So what you would like is a shopping cart added to the App Store/iTunes Store apps, not multitasking. Totally agree, except I am a sore would-be ownercommish said:I guess it doesn't matter - it is what it is. I just feel like Apple could be handling this a lot better. I have my ipad 2, so I'm not a sore would-be owner, but I think Apple should be more forthcoming with information.
