So I always make my own wallpapers for my iDevices. I like going with simple color schemes designs ect so not to distract, and so my lock/home match. Just made a new one tonight and wanted to share, I love it (made like 10-15 versions of patterns colors textures distortions ect before I picked these). Now my new iPad feels fresher than before, as I was still rocking my old iPad wallpaper.

Felt like sharing so if anyone wants here it is.

I'll add mine as well:

Awesome. I bet that looks good even in landscare since it's just about full solid in color. I made more complex ones for the iPad last year, and didn't realize to make em 1024x1024 like a fool haha.

Matches the Timbuk2 bag I just bought. Sweet color scheme.

So if my iPad Deux ships out on the 15th, that gives me less that 20 days (safe side) to find a local one and cancel the order.

Why do I have a feeling that won't happen? :( Almost a whole month of waiting...

Apple guys some questions for you...

Tried to understand and find the answer online but about some things still not sure, so it's better to ask to the persons that "really" have the device.

1) Is it possible (after jb I suppose) to move the files to the iPad 2 memory bypassing itunes? For what I understood it was possible with the iPad 1 but...you could not move every type of file but only files with specific extensions (ex. .mp3, .mov ecc.)

2) Will it be possibile (after jb I suppose) to add the "USB host" feature to iPad 2?

3) What about .mkv? for what I got VLC can but only in streaming

Thanks!

1) I would assume that with a jailbreak you can bypass it by using OpenSSH. Or using something like the CopyTrans Suite program (which wouldn't require a jailbreak, just a separate program that's not iTunes).

2) IDK, if it can be done on the iPad 1 with a jb, I would assume that when the iPad 2 is jailbroken it can.

3) AVplayerHD is the app you want.

1) Ok I will check by the way I was hoping for something really "simple" and indipendent by any program...also because I heard about iFiles and other apps like that but, as I said in my previous post, looks like they can move only certain kind of files

2) I thought the same thing but I read somewhere that there is something with the usb adaptor of the iPad 2 that won't allow that.

3) Thanks looks like it can play mkv + ass!

Than I would add a 4th question....

4) Why iPad 2 over an Android tablet, beyond the fact that iPad2 is REALLY out now and beyond the fanboys typical answers.

Apps. Apps. Apps.

I'll make the argument everyone made for so long when it came to Windows>Mac OS. Software is king.

On iOS you know there is a lot of reliable software, theres no malware issues like Android has been having, updates are incredible thanks to amazing dev support and the hardware is amazing.

The iPad is by far the best piece of tech I own. I've had Macs my whole life, and this I'd say is the greatest thing Apple has ever developed. It has replaced most of my computing and mobile processing. It can also take on whatever you want, but most of all you know the experience you are going to get is a smooth one.

the tablet itself looks better than everything coming out this year.
the os however is dated and lame, i wish i could install android on it, for flash + multitasking.
and there are a ton of awesome apps, a big portion of which free, on the ipad, such as zite, flipboard etc.

The App question is not even one of quantity - though the quantity is there for those who care.

It's also one of quality. The top few apps on iOS are the best designed apps around on any mobile platform. The attention to detail is pretty much unmatched in the best apps out there like Reeder, Flipboard, Elements, Garageband or Omnifocus, etc...

If the app store was only quantity but no quality, then the numbers would be meaningless.

Ok, so my wife has been wanting one since they launched, and with her finishing her masters in 2 months I figured I would try and surprise her. What are my chances of finding one here in the states these days?

Just a 16GB wifi.

There's about 300+ people in the Sheffield Meadowhall Apple Store queue. Me and my friend are about 50th in the line getting served coffee by the staff. A guy came down the queue earlier getting an idea of what people wanted so they can sort the stockroom out, and at 3pm they'll issue reservation tickets.

Yes the app thing is right even if sometime looks like the apps fix some - wanted - limit of the OS. By the way I've seen that if you are using an app full screen, like a game, and you receive an email you won't see it until you exit the app and check the notice on the finder. Annoying.... :-(

This. OS X doesn't have near the amount of apps that Windows has but I find that irrelevant as the quality of the former's apps are just on a different level.

You forgot Instapaper by the way!

a bit off topic but i have never had a problem finding software on my Mac to match something on windows, and in some cases it's been even better. games on the other hand...

How many Canadian GAF'ers are picking up their iPads today?

I am so so so tempted to get one, but I really don't feel like lining up for the entire day. I think I'll give Best Buy a shot around 4 and see how it is.

Anyone else in BC have any better suggestions?

I wish I could, but being unemployed game dev has kept me just watching the whole thing.

Best buy is a pretty decent idea. They are limiting to 1/customer and have clearly posted the sale time, which is refreshing. The toss-up will be how much stock they have, because major Apple stores will certainly beat them massively on inventory but may have lines to match.

The dark horse seems to be London Drugs. I had no idea they were even going to carry it until I clicked on their website. Supplies are bound to be low.

Here in Australia it was just released today... but I didnt read as much on this thread as I should have... I knew i wanted to get the white model cause it looked newer and cooler on the website.

So I ended up getting a 16gb 3G white. Very pleased. But then I went and played with both and somehow I liked the black one better. I find the white border stands out too much. I think thats why most TVs are made with black borders not white.

Did anyone else find this? Have you come to accept the white border now??

Ill definitely keep the white I think. Its unopened at the moment, but its just too much hassle to make an exchange especially when its sold out everywhere.

Just a reminder for everyone to check out Zite magazine. Between it, Flipboard, and Reeder, I hardly ever sit down in front of a monitor to read news anymore.

YES!!!

My local Apple store in the Staten Island Mall got a HUGE shipment of iPad 2's today. They had every model, every color in stock, so I picked up the 16gb Black WiFi iPad 2.

I've had the money for a tablet for a while and I think I'm finally going to go with the iPad 2 instead of the Xoom wifi. But for some reason part of me feels like I'm selling my soul to the devil. I mean I used to exclusively use apple products. I mean my first computer was a Max 2 and my first laptops were the Clamshell and the first white iBook. Why is that?

Just got my iPad 2. It has some kinda severe backlight bleed... :\

But I did get it with no line and 15 minutes after official release here. (reserved a week ago)

Hmm...

So last Sunday I ordered my iPad and then canceled it Wednesday night in favor of searching some stores here in NJ. Unfortunately, no success there so last night I just said screw it and ordered it from Apple.com. This morning I was actually charged the same amount the total came to. This seemed to give me hope of shipping sooner, because that didn't happen last time, but was Apple just checking to see if I had the funds? This didn't happen that Sunday but I do take into consideration that I don't think transactions would show up online on Sundays.

I feel antsy and tinfoil-hat-y thinking and saying all that, but I was just curious what you folks thought. The sooner I can get it in my hands, the better. :P

If you order now you may not get one until the end of April, so might as well do it now...unless funds are tight until then. It might ship earlier for all we know.

If it's like ATT 3G plans are month to month pay as you go with auto renewal, but you can cancel at any time. You can tether with your Droid but you'll probably need to pay an extra $20 or so to get tethering added onto your phone plan, assuming your Droid can do tethering. It won't be unlimited for the tethering, although I'm not sure how they check that.

Yeah I have no problem with fancy stuff, but anything that does really really needs a easily accessible "view normal site" button somewhere.

I got used to landscape typing in a few minutes, I can do around 60-80wpm in it. The keyboard is landscape is actually really close to full size...cause it's not a full keyboard, they didn't have to shrink it down to fit all the extra keys from a regular keyboard. The main thing with either keyboard is to just hit the keys without thinking too much and hope the autocorrect does it's thing (annoyingly the iPad autocorrect doesn't seem as aggressive as the iPhone sometimes).

As for iCab, do you mean that little 6 dot grid icon? That's Quickstarter, it's kind of like Top Sites in desktop Safari, except with manual entries (it doesn't auto populate, you just "add to Quickstarter" like you would a bookmark).

Depends how much you need a case and how much you need a stand. If you just need a stand that's easy to carry around, that's basically what the Smart Cover is. If you need a case...I don't know. StreamToMe doesn't do downloading.

Technically it is from the future relative to the iPad release (although realistically I'm sure all the parts were available and Apple was just going with the cheapest for extra profit).

Depends on streaming and video decoding vs writing to flash constantly, powering the camera, feeding the screen live, and the video encoding...and maybe more screen brightness (since you'll probably be moving around more and might have to deal with more lighting conditions).

Pictures already posted, so I'll just post impressions. I like it. It sort of makes the screen fill the space better since the black gives the effect of a big ass empty space border (like black bars on widescreen) whereas the white is more of a blatant frame, the content seems closer to the edge with it. I've heard others say it's distracting but I (and others) haven't had a problem with it, it's a big ymmv thing.

I used my old iPad case temporarily with it, and in there it looked like ass though. The black wrap around the edge with the white bezel just didn't look good to me.

The last few versions have it but I don't have anything to test it out with. You have to go into the settings (hit the right blue arrow next to a video) and change the video player. No clue if it supports background AirPlaying though, I know the standard (non AirPlay) player does for music.
I'm looking for something in the $39 range. The tarsus that I got is ok I just don't like the way that it fits on the iPad.

So uh, this thing takes forever to unlock, and then the screen is unresponsive.
The official jailbreak for 4.3 isn't out yet. It's tethered and takes just as long to jailbreak an iPhone 4 as the iPad (with snow breeze).

This has probably been asked before, but I don't feel like going through 40 pages.

Has anyone in Europe bought an Ipad 2 in America? If so, are there any issues when using it in Europe. I remember reading something like the Appstore not working correctly... Are there differences between the 3G and WIFI model?

Thx.

Took a gamble and didn't order from Apple and waited until 5pm...more online stores selling it now, ordered with pcworld (cashback with quidco) and they are already processing my order and it says delivery *should* be 3-5 days.

Does anyone have zero backlight bleed? People who have issues are obviously speaking out but its hard to tell if I even have a chance of getting a 'good' one. Also, yes I am aware there likely be a small amount on any screen, I mean the amount to which you would consider taking it back for a replacement.

Looking to pick one up in the coming week. Hopefully there's some left in Sydney, lines from pics were ridiculous.

I have zero bleed- got mine in store on launch day. The problem is pretty small in relation to total iPad sales, and the average consumer probably never will notice if they have it. Not to mention that it disappears after a few weeks of use.

Zero bleed launch unit, reporting in.

Yep, I've got zero bleed too. I just got mine yesterday though.

i've got minor bleed, but i'm gonna wait till a bit before i return it because i'm really enjoying my ipad right now.

are the apple employees pretty educated about the issue and is it easy to replace it?

It sometimes goes away after a week or two.

yes very easy. I didnt even have to show a receipt. The rep that got mine said it was pretty bad. Of course the replacement I got is just as bad. Not a big deal though.

Got one from Currys!

Just trying to get onto the Apple Store now to cancel my order before they do something silly like take money out of my bank account.
