Just got a shipment notification email from Apple and my pants started tightening. And then I opened the email and realized it was just for the cover. Oh well.

Damn it, I saw on the best buy website that one store had some iPads but it turned out they were all for pre-orders.

Looks like if you want one in NYC you're out of luck for the weekend, I talked to someone at the 5th Ave store and he said they should be getting a shipment monday. I wonder how early I'll have to get there.

Edit:

Shipping for the online store is now at 3-4 weeks. I understand why apple didn't let anyone pre-order these before friday, but it really pisses me off that they did it.

There will be a line at the 5th Avenue store all week -- if iPad 1's release is any indication.

Yeah, but I'm hoping if I get there early enough there wont be a huge line, I'm hoping ~8 am is early enough.
 
My only regret is not getting the red leather smart cover. Navy is nice but I want some vibrant color! Might check Apple stores later this week once the madness has (hopefully) died down or just order online.

Check out the iPad app Project Magazine. It's pretty fuckin awesome.

It's an interactive magazine with moving images, quizzes, etc. It's like a magazine of the future. And only $.99 an issue.

Are there other good magazine apps you recommend?

popular science is good, with a unique look and offers a subscription for 15 or 20 bucks per year (or 3 bucks an issue individually).

also a fan of the national geographic and wired apps but the cost per issue of nat geo is rather pricey at 5 bucks. first issue is free, tho.

Reeder is great. It does everything I need, and has a simple, clean interface. And it's extra zippy on iPad 2!

I use the iPhone Reeder but I don't like the iPad version as much. I usually just stick to Zine or Flipboard.

it is if you care about keeping your google reader items in sync across devices. it's also super fast and very slick. it's my favorite.

some people prefer the more visual and flashy way flipboard, pulse or early edition handle feeds.

edit: river of news is also good. but reeder has some nice additions like readability built in for quicker access to article text.
 
Well I cant find this thing anywhere at a brick and mortar so I pre-ordered at Best buy as the Apple store said 3-4 weeks plus 5 days for delivery. BB said hopefully they will have some next week. Went with the black 16gb Wifi Model. I wish the screen was a bit higher resolution but after playing with the Xoom and the Ipad2 I think I made the right choice for now.
Congrats to everyone playing with theirs now though.
 
Ok I'll check out River of News and check out some reviews of it.

How effective is Flipboard though at being an RSS feed? I see it's free .. which is good -- but since I don't have my iPad yet I can't test it out.
 
Whenever I get a new Apple device I like to let the battery die completely before first charge. This is going to take a while ...

With the Unreal Engine now available for the iOS and Gameloft with their hands on it, yeah, we could expect some pretty good looking stuff.

But I want more same screen multiplayer games to play with my gf :( Any suggestions of fun games to play on the same ipad?
