Apple iPad 2 |OT|

I set my alarm for 3:50 on the morning the iPad 2 was orderable, ordered my iPad and smart cover BEFORE the store was supposed to go up (I did it at 3:58), and neither has shipped even though other people are already seeing theirs get shipped :(

Mine's a 64GB black WiFi Model and maybe those are scarcer or something :(

Don't know how but my shinny new iPad has two small scratches in the back already and that's laying the iPad on my table on top of a micro fiber all the time and using it while laying on my bed.
My iPad has two scratches too. Straight vertical scratches, one on one side & another on the other side. I doubt it's a problem on my end since I've only set it on a couch. I'm gonna to bring it up to the Apple Store later today.

Sweet. Fingers crossed. Appreciate the heads up.

No problem, I imagine it's going to keep on being pretty hard to get an iPad over here in the next week or two so we may as well help each other out.

The poster a few pages back from South Dakota who said his store just has them siting there needs to snatch them up and hook some Gaffers up.

What's the easiest way to share apps between family members?

Just authorize their main iTunes computer and then they can download the app I already have?
For just downloading a few apps you can sign out in the App Store app and sign in with your (or whoever's account) to download. I think you only have to authorize iTunes if they want to back up those apps. For mass app exchange you can do Home Sharing and copy stuff over the network, or maybe just copy the ipa files (I think either way involves authorizing iTunes).

ehh, iPad will never really be a "gaming machine" to me. It has nice games, but not as good (IMO) as dedicated gaming platforms (or devices that are first and foremost gaming platforms)
It gives me portable modern Cave shooters for a few bucks, and it seems to be their main portable target system, I can't complain with that.

Man I think we can expect some KILLER games from iPad 2 once devs get to grips with the increased power. Dedicated handhelds LOL

Have fun with your bite size games with little substance and depth. Handheld games > iOS games.

No, the iPad 2 has magnets installed in the side and face that allow the smart covers to work. Also, the hinge is designed to fit the new body design.

Nothing a little crazy glue and magnets can't cure.

Hey, I have fun with both types of systems. Imagine that.

You guys aren't really going to bring that gaming side crap in here, are you?

Everytime I come in here people are talking about magnets. Hundreds of dollars for an electronic device and the damn magnets are getting the biggest buzz

Little dick syndrome in effect.

I am hoping for either a plastic back cover that works with the Smart Cover in that it doesn't get in the way of the magnet hinges and still allows it to stick to the back, or a cover that does both duties but still works the same way with the magnets that wake it up and stick when folded over. Or even something completely different that still uses magnets to wake it up. Gonna wait and hope for something good. I don't want anything thar puts a bezel around the screen. My dad has a case for his iPad 1 and it makes touching the very edge a pain in the ass. And dragging icons across pages as well.

If you're going to troll at least try a bit harder, there are plenty of high quality iOS games with depth.

Can't people live with the fact that some people like handheld game systems and some like the games that come on iOS and that it doesn't matter what other people think.

How is this shit still tolerated? This isn't even the gaming forum.
He's clearly being a douche, but does it make me a douche if I kind of agree with him? i mean, i love the quick nature of the app store games, but there is just no way I can ever see myself getting hyped for an iOS game. It's just an extremely casual gameplayer, which is fine by me, but the notion that it's better than a dedicated handheld is ridiculous.

I don't think it's better than a dedicated handheld, but to many people (including myself), it's just as good. GTA, Game Dev Story, Hot Springs Story, Baseball Superstars, NBA Jam, etc. are, at least to me, just as much fun as anything I'd play on a DS/PSP.

I dunno, I was pretty hyped for Infinity Blade. Besides, I find that iOS gaming is more suitable for my lifestyle now that I'm older- I definitely play portable games on iOS more than on my PSP and DS.

Regardless, troll is a troll (ulairi).

No but for many it's just as good.

Well I cant find this thing anywhere at a brick and mortar so I pre-ordered at Best buy as the Apple store said 3-4 weeks plus 5 days for delivery. BB said hopefully they will have some next week. Went with the black 16gb Wifi Model. I wish the screen was a bit higher resolution but after playing with the Xoom and the Ipad2 I think I made the right choice for now.
Congrats to everyone playing with theirs now though.

You can pre-order at Best Buy?

I'm not huge into the Apple scene, but if the 3DS is successful, which I'm certain it will be, do you guys think Apple will hop on the 3D train?
I can't think of one worthwhile reason why they would ever want to.

It looks like it'll work well on a gaming machine, but I doubt 3D would ever be anything but a hindrance to web browsing, email and work related apps.

Did you the post I was replying to? Whitta was trolling. I replied in kind. My broader point stands. In the aggergrate, a dedicated handheld offers more and deeper experiences than iOS. I'd love any examples to the contrary. Game Dev Story doesn't cut it for me. I'm not trolling the iPad or iPhone. I'm trolling the idea that they make portable games systems no longer needed.

Yeah, I suppose because I'm only in college I don't have a full grasp of how many people use the iPad for work. I'm sure it's huge for businesses and such.

What about GTA? or Phoenix Wright? They are quite literally the exact same game as their DS counterparts.

It depends what you want from the device. For the price most iOS games are fine, some are great value propositions. I don't think anyone will seriously say that the breadth and depth that a defecated handheld offer can be found on iOS. Even if we look at PSP/DS ports thatbrun great on iOS, the economics require a traditional release first.

You are the most ignorant person I've seen in a while. Congratulations.

The economics? I'm convinced you're throwing in big words just to make yourself sound less ridiculous. World of Goo sales on the iPad blew away those of the Wii. Infinity Blade sold incredibly well, and was build from the ground up for iOS. And what about Dead Space? The list goes on and on.

Pi played GTA Chinatown Wars on iOS and it's great. I love the price point. Where are that level of games built only for iOS? The truth of the matter is as of now the model requires a traditional release first. Could a $30 or $40 game launch on iOS at those price points and succeed? If that happens handhelds then fac more danger.

Telltale games.

I doubt that will be true in the future and I question if it's even true now.

Show me the content. Again, I don't care what device I play it on as long as the content is good. The economics haven't proven you to be correct but that can change.

No. Infinity Blade is not a deep experience. It looks good and is fun but it's a simplistic experience.

How about you read what I say and talk to that instead of some mythical argument you want to have.

I'm talking about the totality of content. I was replying to a Whitta troll.

What about Plants Vs. Zombies? Originally a PC/Mac game that came to iOS, sold a ton and then eventually got ported to the DS?

So what about "simple" games on the DS? Phoenix Wright? Brain Training? Both have games that you can define as simple or deep, but you're making excessive generalizations.

A Whitta troll? This is an iOS thread. If you don't like what he's saying, then leave. His content was relevant; yours is derailing.

I've found that I'm enjoying simpler experiences on the go, I may be unusual in that sense, I like playing my deep intense games on my xbox/PS3. Not to say that there isn't a place for deep games on the go as is the case with GTA.

I'm not saying iOS doesn't have good games. I'm talking about the totality of experiences on the DS/PSP are deeper and different than iOS. A lot of you sound like Wii gamers using The Conduit to show that it can match the other platforms. You'll find gems on every platform, but would you seriously suggest an iOS device for someone who likes to play games like Dragon Quest, Mario, God of War, etc etc?

iOS excels at games that use the device and do not try to mimic other platforms. The board game adaptions are fantastic. Adventure games are a lot more fun with touch controls than buttons, to me. The experiences are different. I was replying to Whitta with snark.

Are there any more traditional third party covers that take advantage of the magnets? I picked up an ipad 2 for my father and knowing him the official cover isn't going to be enough.

I do both. I play my DS most often at home. When I'm waiting for a doctors appointment a game like Plants V Zombies are great. For a shorter train ride I'd rather use my iOS device. But, when visiting my inlays in Taiwan I want my DS.
