So is there basically anywhere in the US to possibly find an iPad this week? Like, do we expect that more shipments will arrive to Apple Stores?

Osfoora is a nice Twitter alternative

Yeah but it's like the official twitter client. I'm looking an app that throws off the tyranny of the timeline. Something like Reportage or TwitterForBusyPeople but works best on the iPad. (There's ch@tter but performance has always been poor).

Unless they release a controller, it's pretty limited. It's fun on The Incident, but you can really only do waggle, since there are no buttons. You can make on-screen buttons, but that hurts the point of a controller, since you need to take your eyes off the TV screen and look at your handheld device. It could work well with board games or non-complex games though. Maybe some dev could also use multi-touch instead (one finger touch = punch, two finger touch = kick, etc).

yea, obviously different games would work better. but it's still an opportunity to bring apps to the big screen.

there should be another shipment tomorrow @ the apple store from what i've read. i really wonder if they sold close to a million this weekend.

What's the word on games and video apps taking advantage of the "9 times graphics"?

And what are impressions of the browser right now?

Can't speak on games, but the fact that the browser doesn't reload the pages every time you return to them is a welcomed change.

Argh there's basically no possible way I'm going to get my iPad before I fly out on Saturday :( :(

No developer will developer solely for iPad 2 until there is a bigger install base (missing out on 15 million possible customers would be dumb), and that is the only way anyone will take advantage of the "9 times graphics" upgrade.

iCab is, and will always be awesome!

No, but I think we'll see quite a few Ipad 2 optimized games like we've seen so far.

However, in a crowded app store, a great way to stick out and make some sales is to support the newest thing. We will definitely see some early apps that hit the iPad 2 hard fairly soon. Remember how many people were suddenly interested in Cave shooters when the 3GS was the target device for those? Niche as hell software suddenly being discussed on all the tech sites.

yup, it's a great way to make a quick buck off the early adopter/techy crowd. i'm not gonna lie, i bought a ton of early 3GS and iphone4 retina-enabled apps when they came out.

OuterWorldVoice asked for Apps taking advantage of the iPad upgrade. There is a big difference between optimization and developing solely to iPad 2 standards to take advantage of the new innards.

iPad2-only game should, and will be much better looking that just a few nicer textures and better lighting

Not sure if want. I'm about 50-50 right now. Any reason I should get a tablet? I travel a lot, with a laptop... totally unsure
What do you need to do when you travel? Would it require a full computer? Or is it mainly browsing?

Mine shipped from China (direct from factory?) on Saturday, March 12th with estimated delivery date of March 17th. Just arrived in Alaska today...cant wait.

You need to decide if the form factor will offer you any benefits over your current setup. Do you want to read books and comics, browse the web, and play games in a device you hold like a book and interact with directly? If so, then get an iPad. If that does nothing for you, don't worry about it.

Please provide us with updates each day of where it is.

Interesting.

I travel for work with a laptop I have to take. I don't like using it for personal browsing if I don't have to (big brother, etc). Also, I hate having a loud, heavy personal laptop next to me when I game. I like the idea of something light I can pick up and use like my iPhone, but bigger.

Hey Giga, it might be a good idea to add a list of alternate browsers, email clients, comic/pdf/ebook reader apps, video players (from VLC to Netlix to MLB at Bat) and music players to the OP, just to get the new guys started.
Good idea, get started on making that list and I'll add it ;)

Best Buy is doing reserves for $100 down which is nice as it gets rid of random scrubs. Put up or shut up.

dont forget RSS readers. I would prefer not to pay for an rss reader just to find out i think it sucks.

So last night I turned my brightness all the way down while using my ipad and I can see light bleeding in several areas. I will probably take mine back and exchange it.

It still wouldn't wake up the device. You'd still have to use the power/home button and lock screen.

I know all of that. I just found something similar for iPad 1.

Rumor has it that some Apple stores received stock today but will not sell it till tomorrow. Seems they will open an hour for the sale.

The iPad is god when flying, imo. Silent, stays cool, and is comfortable to hold even in the most ridiculous of economy seating. And walking down the terminal and seeing all the laptop people huddled around the precious few charging stations while your iPad is still over 80% full is a wonderful feeling.

Just keep on trying is the only way, you might get lucky and happen to come across as a shipment comes in.

You should like it then. And as mentioned above the battery is awesome for it. If you have a decent capacity USB battery pack you can use it a ridiculously long time.

Question: IF my iPad ships, and gets delivered to me after I've left, I can always just not sign for it, have it sent back to Apple, and therefore automatically get refunded for it, right?

I want to be sure that I can keep shopping around this week even after the one I ordered is 'prepared for shipment.'

It really is. My boss let me mess around with his og iPad when we went on travel. That experience sold me on it.

Pretty sure it would just get re-routed to the nearest post office and you'd have to go pick it up or schedule another delivery.

I've done this multiple times this with online purchases, none through Apple however. Just refuse the package, it gets sent back and you'll be refunded. Call them to make sure.

Okey doke (there'll be someone at home who can actually refuse it instead of just having it fail to deliver).

Do you live near an Apple Store? I feel like you can take it back and they'll refund you.

It's a luxury device but oh, what a luxury device! I think Apple will support a stylus next year...

I need to grab one of those keyboard docks before they disappear.
http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...ge-steps-towards-a-graphics-pen-for-ipad.html

Last July Apple was granted a patent for a graphics tablet and since then several other specialty pen and display patents have come to light. Today's patent report covers a new stylus-friendly touch display designed to work with a new kind of stylus that works with a conductive disk and unique pivoting head. While the proposed pen system could be used with standard iPhone apps, the patent clearly points to the system being more graphics oriented as it mentions working with brush tools and the like. And lastly, the new pen even has a gaming angle to it that could be fun.

...

Although Apple's CEO scoffed at a stylus being used on the iPhone during his 2007 keynote, the fact remains that Apple continues to this day to bankroll expensive engineers to the task of developing exotic pens, styluses, displays and digital ink engines. I'd follow the facts more than the myth that Apple will never introduce a stylus or digital pen.

So I synced up my photos to my iPad... then had to reset my computer and lost my iPhoto library. What's the best way to get my photos BACK to my computer, without having to email them all?

They're not in the Camera Roll so they don't show up on image capture, and all the software solutions are stupidly priced ($30). Should I just wait for the jailbreak or is there a free alternative somewhere?

The biggest speed boost, a 9x improvement in graphics processing, should be apparent when you run demanding 3D games, but it's not clear whether any games that take advantage of that higher speed are yet available. Surely some are in the pipeline for the coming months.

How about you do some research and find out for us?

Lazy, lazy 'first look'.

Try to Plug your iPad into the computer then open up the Preview application. File > Import.

If you're on a mac, then just use the Image Capture app.

Call Fedex, I know that UPS allows you to do a "Package Intercept" and re-route the package in transit. See if Apple and Fedex will allow you to do that. Apple would have to call and set up the Interception, of course.

played with an ipad2 + a xoom at a best buy this past weekend and i enjoyed the ipad 2 a bit more. it was lighter, the screen looked a bit better and the xoom fc'd on me in the few minutes i was using it. i'm sold on the ipad2, ordered ipad2 case from portenza, now to find one in nyc. shouldn't be too hard to find one before my april 8 flight to SFO.
