I found my the backup folder for my iPad 1 on my PC. It has many files in it. Thing is, i want to move that to my Mac. Where would I transfer it to? In other words, where is the backup location on Mac OS X? And thirdly, would this even work...restoring a blank iPad from this folder..would iTunes recognise it?

Backup folders are kept in ~(your user)/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

The folders are named with a big string of characters, and if it's an older restore, the date and time.

I'm guessing if you move a folder here then open iTunes, it will see it (see iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices -> backups).

I just deleted a bunch of backups to free up some space.

So I have been airport hopping for the past 2 days and I have seen a lot of people taking pictures with their iPads - literally holding them up in front of groups of people and taking pictures. And not just one "let me get this real quick" picture, but lots and lots of pictures.

Why would Apple blow their load with a great camera on this unit when they can save it for when the Playbook, HP tablet, and more Gingerbread tablet are out to market?

Innovate when you need to.

Lol. Yeah, even when they announced cameras other than for FaceTime I had no interest. Honestly i would not have expected people to use them as stills much (i.e.,hold up tablet like a camera).

Interesting. Maybe it's a matter of having your iPad anyway and you're using it for something else, may as well snap a pic to upload to Facebook. Camera's probably not really even great for that. Like how I use my iPhone camera even though I have my slr on me!

I don't think you're using your dictionary correctly.

Or maybe it's because iPads have a large screen/viewfinder so framing a picture is a lot easier (if you don't mind the weight).

Too visceral for you?

1) i'm not sure you know what innovate means

2) people in this thread love to make excuses for apple's shortcomings... the camera sucks, and some people would like it to be better for their own personal use.

After I get pissed and/or curious I do crazy stuff.. So I decided to get up really early today, go by a couple of Apple stores and check my chances of getting an iPad 2.

Around 5am I was at the West 14th store. My jaw almost dropped... 400+ waiting in line! 350+ were asian scalpers and they were up front of course. They had chairs and sleeping bags, clearly they had spent the night there.

20 mins later, around 5.20am, I was at the Upper West Side store. Line was smaller but again 200+. Once again the vast majority were asians and they were up front. Same situation, sleeping bags and everything. I did not even bother with the 5th Av and SoHo stores. I was looking for a 32/64 gig AT&T model, the ones that have the most demand so I did not even bother to wait in line. 200x2 = 400 iPads to be sold before me and I doubt the UWS gets high volumes daily.

I have nothing against Asians and I am not a racist. But I have much against these scalpers. All those being "liberal" and "open minded" saying US is a free country and everyone can do anything they want with their iPads once they buy them, essentially backing up the scalpers, well, you speak because you have NO idea what's going on in NYC. All the smarta$$ comments of "get up and go earlier" do not apply here. The asians have simply dominated. All those complaining that NY gets the most of the shipments, again, we are not buying them!! From what I have seen and read since launch day, I strongly believe that 90% of all iPad 2s sold in NYC go straight to the gray market.

So I am sorry to say this but for anyone in NYC, do not waste your time. This has been getting worse day by day and we are now at the point where it is simply impossible to get an iPad 2 from the Apple stores. Unless Apple does something I only see this getting worse until the gray market is saturated. It comes to show the power of masses..

sounds like the guy is a sore loser. He knows its in hot demand. Apple can't even ship these things. And he assumes Asians = scalpers. he could have camped out for it too. Yeah, he's not a racist so why even bring race into it.

people are paying 500 dollars to use the fucking camera, this conversation is fucking tenuous man, like 500 dollars bought me this

Does VMware have options for how the network connection is shared? In Parallels there are two options, bridged and shared. If there are try switching to the other method.

Why are you running it in a VM btw?
Airvideo isn't in the vm. It's on regular windows.

have to agree with this. I don't even know what that poster was saying.

Can someone explain to me how it is able to record in 720p yet takes pictures like that?
Copied from somewhere else:
Do the math. Video, even HD video, has always been considerably lower resolution than still cameras. SD video, at 640 x 480 is only 0.3 megapixels, and video cameras were still shooting that when 5 megapixel still cameras were the norm. 720p HD video is normally 1280x720, in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, which is only 0.9 megapixels. Since most cameras take still photos in a 4:3 aspect ratio, and the maximum number of vertical lines in the iPod touch sensor is 720, still photos are reduced to 960 x 720, or 0.7 megapixels.

So it works when you don't have VM ware running? Try the AirVideo support forums, they can probably help you more than I can sorry.

you guys are saying the camera is shit and should be better, my argument is if you want a 500 dollar device to take pictures buy a fucking camera. Even if the ipad gets a 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 megapixel camera it will still have a sensor the size of a pea and still be 10 inches. Please show me a use case where people will be seriously using the camera on the ipad for photos

Is Plex a more versatile form of Air Video?

What if I don't want a really nice $500 camera but also don't want garbage or don't want to carry multiple things around?

As for uses, that's why there are apps.

When people happen to have an iPad on their hands and want to take a photo?

When people want to take a quick pic and upload it to facebook or twitter? (and a pic that doesn't look like shit btw)

When people don't have any other camera available?

When people want to take a copy of a page and have it available immediately on the iPad for reading?

3 notes:

-not being SHIT doesn't mean wanting a fucking professional looking photo. People just want a clear portrait of a moment for future memories. It's POSSIBLE even with a small sensor. It's possible without having to carry around a specific object just for that purpose all day long.

-convergence device. it's what a phone is nowadays and so are tablets.

-nobody's saying you have to want what other people want.

i personally use the iPad mini for pictures

I love using my iPad for photos... that is to say, for transferring photos from my S95 using the camera connection kit when I'm on holidays.

I might use the front facing camera for a bit of facetime, but thats about it.

What's unreasonable about wanting a camera in the iPad with technology that doesn't pre-date 2003?

I'd like to get one tomorrow and would be willing to wait in line for an hour, but it seems like no retailers know anything about their shipments. It's basically a lost cause.

It's true! Few cameras have 10 inch touch screen viewfinders!

I remember when the iPhone came out - 3.5 " view was awesome, even though the camera was kind of bad.

At some point in the future, the tech, the cost and the public demand for a good camera on a tablet will converge and apple will stick one in without compromising the thickness of the device.

Till then, it's gonna be grainy video only on the iPad. Maybe the front facing cam will get a small bump next year.

I think it's for certain.

It's simply how apple roll. They'll start off by saying how people wanted a better camera and how they're deliveri what the people want.

Also, if there's ever go ing to be retina, the camera will have to improve ;)

That's true. They're not going to have a (rear) camera capable of capturing fewer pixels than are in the device's actual display.

Oh, it's small. Suddenly those pictures don't look so bad anymore.

God, what is it with you people? Are you being intentionally thick?

From what I can tell (it's hard to find data), the 2MP front facing Xoom Camera is bigger physically than the iPad's rear facing camera, which is only 0.7mp.

What would you rather have, a giant thick iPad with a 5MP camera or a thin, light iPad with a really fucking average camera?

For me, I'd be happy with just a Facetime HD camera on the front. The HP Touchpad doesn't have a rear camera and I'm cool with that. It's a tablet. My notebook doesn't have a rear camera and I don't see the need for one when I have my phone.

A gigantic thick ipad with a tripod mount.

Does any company actually make an iPhone quality HD camera sensor that can fit in an iPad without making the device thicker?

See, that's Apple's problem. They would rather put thinness and lightness first and then use components that can fit in the case rather than other companies who take the best components they can find then build a device around them.

The only reason the iPhone is thick is because it's basically their flagship. The product that needs to be the best since it's what everyone looks at.

I could never stand to use an iPad that was as thick as an iPhone 4.

Notice how the iPod touch got thinner and thinner while the phone stayed thick. It's not because of the components. It's the camera.

So unless there is actually a company currently selling a sensor that's cheap enough but still has iPhone quality video, the iPad and iPod will have a low quality camera for a while.

It's all about the camera sensor.

There's a guy that's going to try to install the iPhone 4 camera into the iPad 2 (You can buy the iPhone 4 camera part online):
http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/ip...t-iphone-4-replacement-camera-ipad-2-a-2.html

People can just wait for him to do it and then people that want a better camera can copy him. This topic is beaten to death, people are just arguing in circles. The iPad will have these specs for the next year. The same arguments occurred when the iPod Touch camera came out.

There's no talking to these people.

Last year it was the lack of a camera, now the camera isn't good enough.

People arguing size of camera sensor--I think the iPhone 4 camera actually can fit in that crevice. I actually think they'll stick the iPhone 4 camera in there next year (since they'd have produced in such large quantities by then that it is much more cheaper).

I'm pretty sure it was left out to increase margins. The iPhone 4 camera costs $10, according to iSuppli. This camera costs maybe $1 to $3. If Apple sells 15 million iPads, they saved $105-135 million in costs. If they sell 30 million iPads, they saved $210-270 million.

Wrong.

iPhone 4 Camera is 6.5mm tall.

iPad 2 is in total, 8.8mm tall. When you minus 2.4mm of LCD thickness, you are left with 6.4mm which is less than the height of the IP4 module. Remember you also require space for bushings, the outer case etc.

It's too big.

You don't include the outer case because it sticks through the outer case. Anyway, if a 5MP camera sensor requires 6.5mm, I doubt that the only available camera sensor left has to be less than 1MP.

I already have my iPhone 4 camera and a dslr, I would have preferred if apple just put in a good FaceTime camera and skipped the rear camera.

Some people are complaining because it doesn’t have a camera in it. Spoiled techno-babies, all of them. Just because something is technically possible, it doesn’t mean it has to be done. It’s technically possible to build an egg whisk that makes phonecalls, an MP3 player that dispenses capers or a car with a bread windscreen. Humankind will continue prosper in their absence. Not everything needs a 15-megapixel lens stuck on the back, like a little glass anus. Give these ingrates a camera and they’d whine that it didn’t have a second camera built into it. What are you taking photographs of anyway? Your camera collection?
Amazing.
