Are there any back cases compatible with the smart cover?

Also, just found this one:

Grove Made Cases

It uses magnets to sleep/wake the iPad 2 exactly like the Smart Cover.
Do you have an iPad 2 yet? If not I'd suggest holding off on a case like that cause the thinness of the iPad is pretty awesome, and something that thick just changes the feel entirely.

can you disable the popup blocker in iCab?, need to temporarily disable it to access a website
I don't think so...even if you could I'd use Safari in your case cause there's some JS stuff that only works in it, and I suspect what you're trying would only work in Safari anyways cause of that (you can disable Safari's popup blocking in the Settings app).

Has he even used an iPad? Seems to be in the camp of "I'm happy with what I use now" and I can understand that... but complaining that it doesn't have a CD/DVD burner? Does anyone use those anymore? :D

It's Dvorak-level curmudgeonly.
Sounds a lot like Dvorak...who has admitted/relishes in trolling Apple topics for massive page hits. Y'all took the bait.

Add me to the list of people who never understood the passionate iTunes hate. It's always done what I've asked it to, which is manage and play my music.

For those in the sf area I have just concluded some research and found stunning results. Both the best buy on Geary and the apple store on market are sold out.

Just wait till they are readily available IMO.

Exchange it, otherwise why would anyone have an iPad for longer than a year?

I don't hate it, but I've actually stopped using it recently after like 9 years because it's just such a huge program. I prefer just playing my music in my web browser with Subsonic.

$100 and they send you a new iPad: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

How much does iPad Battery Replacement Service cost?

The service costs $99. A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if you arrange service online or by calling Apple Technical Support. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to local tax.

Will the data on my iPad be preserved?

No. You will receive a replacement iPad that will not contain any of your personal data. Before you submit your iPad for service, it is important to sync your iPad with iTunes to back up your contacts, calendars, email account settings, bookmarks, apps, etc. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information when servicing your iPad.

LOL. It's like a iPad case for loggers. Fuck me.

Was looking for an eBook today when I realized you can't actually browse/buy iBooks on a Mac or a PC. You have to do it on the device. That's... kinda dumb. Oddly you can buy audiobooks through iTunes, just not eBooks.

iBooks has a pretty great interface but if I were to buy something off Kindle I'd just strip the DRM and plunk the sucker in iBooks anyway, so for me the most important thing for me is to be able to rapidly do price comparison and having to juggle both the computer and the iPad to do the price comparison is kinda suboptimal. *sigh*

ooh, please do tell.

So those huge Safari speed increases that came with 4.3... Does anyone know if Perfect, iCab, or Atomic browsers take advantage of it?

I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.

There's no magic to it. There are a variety of options, including a python script that can be run, which take AZW or whatever files and output DRM-free MOBI files. You then use calibre or any other free converter program to convert MOBI to ePub (or PDF or whatever) for use on iPad. I don't really know a whole lot about it personally.

I think answer is not yet, at least with iCab.

Note that Amazon uses a weird format for some of their ebooks which fucks up that drm removal tool. For example, I got Homicide by David Simon through the Amazon Kindle store and couldn't strip that of the drm.

Is that the Topaz DRM mentioned in some of the sites?

Sideloading into iBooks has been a lifesaver.

OK then it's not just me. Been waiting for the iTunes login to pop up for updates for 3 restarts of my iPad now.

hmm.

My iTunes account login has failed, and I can't update. My NZ account is ok though.

I fired an email to iTunes, but if others are having issues accessing accounts, maybe it's just server side.

I recently finished reading that myself, but I bought it in iBooks. Fantastic book.

Hmmm. That's the great thing about a mainstream service or when an environment is really fixed and standardised - one thing can take it down, but at least it gets known rather quickly. Hopefully fixed soon, if not already.

I live in downtown SF and both my friend and I put $100 down at Best Buy on Harrison and we both got them in less than a week. No waiting in lines, just went to the counter and picked it up. Easy as pie.

Is there any way to get legal high-quality live video, on the iPad, of soccer matches from any of the European and/or South American leagues?

If you guys don't intend on waiting in line for long hours, be up at 1AM.

I'll try, but i think the online apple store is guaranteed to be down by 01:00.01

Anyway, some good news - price drop for the UK!

Wi-Fi
£399.00 inc VAT for the 16GB model
£479.00 inc VAT for the 32GB model
£559.00 inc VAT for the 64GB model.

Wi-Fi + 3G
£499.00 inc VAT for the 16GB model
£579.00 inc VAT for the 32GB model

Nitro (the new JavaScript engine) is for Safari and nothing else for now...realistically I'm not sure how much it'll affect the sites you browse. iCab on iPad 2 does worse on SunSpider (JS benchmark) than Safari on iPad 1, but in actual usage is much faster. There were some other improvements that get more images to load and god knows what else, and that extends to the other browsers at least.

(There's some conspiracy theory that this is a ploy against web apps, but it's a weak theory since it affects every native app with web views as well. Most likely it has something to do with Nitro not working in the sandboxed app model or something)

If you can get them at home maybe a Slingbox. Not sure if any stations/leagues have viewer apps for their stuff.

That's good to know. I much prefer tabbed browsing with Atomic to Safari. Is iCab the preferred third party browser these days? Or is it a personal thing?

what's the best settings to read books on ipad? Kindle seems the best app but text anti aliasing is lacking and nonstandard fonts in some older books. iBooks seems to have sharpest text but shittiest options. Advice gaf?

What options do you need apart from a selection of fonts, and the size of the text?

It's a book!

2 The iPad doesn't support multitasking: As a result, I can't listen to sports talk radio online, check to see if little Charlie has bitten anyone else's finger, and type my blog, all at the same time. Such versatility is why I love mobile computers--and it alone will ensure my allegiance to laptops.
What, is he an idiot? iPad can't "multitask"? I multitask all the time. It's not the kind a full computer has, but it works better than it does on any other tablet OS I've seen. The iPad's multitasking is the reason my iPad and my iPod can last for days on one charge while my Android with no extra background apps installed is down to 50% battery in 4 hours and dead by the time I get home. I've picked my iPod up after a few days sitting around and found 10-20 apps running in memory and it still has a charge.

Its battery isn't replacable: I know the iPad has respectable battery life, but if you ever have to work on a long plane ride and in a café with no available power outlets, you need excellent battery life and a back-up cell that is easy to install. This isn't possible on either model of iPad. As on all other Apple mobile devices, the battery is sealed and nonreplaceable.
WHO FUCKING CARES? By the time the battery is dead, you'll have moved on to the next iPad or the next MacBook Pro, and even if it does die before you do switch, it's not that expensive to replace it.

Dvorak is such a troll. I wish they'd fire his ignorant ass already. Oh, wait.. it's not Dvorak? That's right, he switched to Mac a while ago, didn't he? Who's this Tom guy? Idiot doesn't "get it". Needs to stick to using his crappy $200 laptop and let the people who want a nice device use their iPads and Xoom's and Playbook's and whatever else there is.

He's not talking about the battery dying over a few years, he's saying if you're somewhere where there isn't a power outlet, having a changeable battery is hand, as you can double your battery life.

Then the iPad wouldn't be able to be so thin, correct?

You get TEN hours of battery life. "Doubling" up your battery life on a laptop even will net you about 9 hours. And thats on a good laptop thats not doing anything intensive.

I feel stupid even talking about that troll article but... there's no 200 dollar laptop with a battery that can get close to 10 hours usage. so the guy would NEED to carry and switch out a battery (possibly 2 of them) to match the integrated battery in the ipad.

so there's added inconvenience and weight for the same performance. hardly a good design.
