Are their any good manga apps for the ipad? And does Skype work with the ipad 2 yet?

search for "manga" or "cbr" in the app store.

I don't follow any readers that may be better suited for manga but for general purpose comics reading, i like comic flow and comiczeal

so in prep for my ipad delivery, I was buying some apps...

I got 'tiny wings' for about 79 cents and it says on the page it's compatible with ipad/ipod touch/iphone

however in my itunes it's under 'iphone and ipod touch apps'

does this mean it's not going to work? (still waiting on ipad delivery) If i screwed up, do I have any option here to get it changed?

It'll work but will show up in iPhone screen size, you'll have the option of 2x-ing it but resolution will suck.

:/

Well the game seems fun and it was 79cents I guess...

hey what about this. My flatmate has an iphone, can I just... give it to him? How does that work? If I plug in his iphone here will it allow me to load it?

What you want may vary with how you intend to use it but I like Bookman (very good at organizing, allows FTP/Dropbox/other, and opens up things in other apps if you want) and Stanza (sometimes Bookman doesn't like the cbr/cbz for some reason, good reading app, syncs wirelessly with Calibre). My biggest issue with Bookman for comics is that it doesn't do 'infinite re-sizing' like a lot of other apps, which every now and then annoys me, but since a manga page should fit entirely onto the iPad screen (unlike comics, which are larger than an iPad) you shouldn't have the issue.

Both are free. I have yet to find a reader that's actually perfect. Everything fails in one way or another. Comic Flow was nice for reading but the in-app organization was terrible unless there was a giant hidden menu somewhere, and I couldn't get the FTP to work). Comic Zeal doesn't do FTP, I didn't like the way it organized things as much or how menus are handled, and is cumbersome for syncing. Page turning isn't as good as it could be in Stanza. I think I tried a couple other things but can't remember what.

Basically get Bookman and Stanza.

No. Well, yes but only if you link his phone to your account.

Got mine from the Glasgow store. Was about a five hour wait. They had tones though. If you had shown up at five I would have thought you'd still be able to get one. The queue was about 600-800 people by five o'clock though.

This was from the car park of Meadowhall in Sheffield. Where the queue goes in on the far right it entered a fire escape tunnel with another 100 inside.

I got a white 16gb wifi with green smart cover.

This has probably been asked before, but I don't feel like going through 40 pages.

Has anyone in Europe bought an Ipad 2 in America? If so, are there any issues when using it in Europe. I remember reading something like the Appstore not working correctly... Are there differences between the 3G and WIFI model?

Thx.
Wifi ones should be identical, ATT 3G models should work, but Verizon 3G models won't on the cellular networks there, but it should work otherwise.

What's the best notes-taking app? (I wanna scribble with my fingers, for learning Japanese)
Adobe Ideas is a good one. I use Note Taker HD but the UI is pretty clunky, UPAD seems pretty nice (there's a free version), a lot of others like Notes Plus.

There's also Penultimate which is semi ok...but kind of useless for detail since you can't zoom in, so it's all pretty low resolution input in comparison the the others I mentioned (those are all vector).

Every car in that parking lot looks the same.

You Europeans and your small cars.

Just to know if I get it right...

...so to trick the iPad and let it see an external HD / Flash USB Key and maybe read a movie from it I should do all is described here -> http://time-more.com/ipad

Just to understand. And by the way you confirm that there's no way to read NTFS Format so even if the procedure up there works I cannot use with the USB peripheral files bigger than 4GB (fat 32 limit), right?

ipad 2 is blowin' shit up worldwide. not surprised though, the more i use it, the more i realize how underpowered the ipad 1 was.

Hey ipadders,

What's your preference - portrait or landscape for day to day tasks?

I much prefer portrait myself - it's like a book/page.

That's old obsolete info. I can vaguely recall linking to it last year in May... anyway

portrait, although it does something weird with my web fonts. they seem more jaggy for some reason.

I work in a UK dept store doing Tech Support.

We had people queueing from 1pm. I mean that's just crazy for us.

We had 80 iPads in and we sold out in 3 hours. I'd say we had a queue of 70 at what point.

Landscape is what I always try to use for typing (way more accurate and comfortable), but for everything else I just leave it locked in Portrait.

The page has less width so they have to be resized. Smaller font sizes will look more blurry because they're anti-aliased on a low DPI screen. I'm so spoiled by the retina display.

After they kept talking about it on John Gruber's show, I was about to buy it. But I realized I'm fine with just a sleeve and my current MacBook Pro bag.
I had heard about it before, but Gruber and Benjamin put it back in my mind. My Timbuk2 bag is too big for my everyday needs.

Does anyone suggest Hulu + ?
Depends on what you want to get out of it. I use it to watch the 4 or 5 network shows I like, and that's worth the $8 to me. I look at it this way, I subscribe to Hulu + and Netflix, and get all the content I need to replace cable for $16. Thats a good value IMO.

Sounds good enough for me.

So my dumb ass just sauntered into the Apple Store at 6PM on launch day and tried to buy an iPad.

I was unsuccessful.

mine has backlight bleeding :(

So does mine. Mind you, mine is a 1st Gen and I can only notice it when I'm using it in darkness, when the screen is completely black, and I look for it.

So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Can you view hulu+ on multiple devices with one sub? Can you use AirPlay?

I saw the line at the Eaton Centre in Toronto.

It was massive, and everyone was cheering like crazy when 5pm hit.

Did they get clapped in? Nothing makes me question my love of Apple products more than being clapped in to an Apple Store.

I was clapped in and high fived for the Snow Leopard launch. A $29 product, lol.

Tried to get an ipad today 1 day after launch in sydney. I probably could have gotten 1 if I had gone after work or woken up earlier today to queue at the Apple Sydney Store but yeah.. nothing. Well, there was a slight queue when I got there at 9.30am but the guy came round to speak to the women at the end of the queue advising them not to waste time as there wasn't stock - in fact, there wasn't enough stock for the guys in the queue - and they were advised but kept queueing anyhow. I left. Read online they're completely sold out now.

Played with an ipad2 in the store. They didn't have the right apps to showcase the processing..so it didn't feel special. Tried safari (which I hate still - atomic all the way) and quite honestly, FROM THEIR APP selection, I think I could live with Ipad 1.

I live in the city near the store now so I might pop in later today to see if they will have stock etc tomorrow morning. I'll go then.

As is, not feeling too devastated about not getting 1.

yeah, I felt really uncomfortable at last year's iPad launch when I was in line and got clapped and hollered into the store when they opened. I felt dirty afterward.

32GB + 3G black iPad 2 score.

It's my first one, found it by accident the day after Aussie launch in a target.

Are the leather cases worth the extra money, or is it just shiny-thing based robbery? Red seems like the best choice for Black. How do the grey and blue look?

So what is the best Instant Messaging app for the iPad?

I use BeejiveIM for my iPhone but it doesn't seem to have gotten the best reviews, and looks like it's getting shitty support too, not being updated in almost 5 months.

You get access to multiple devices with one subscription, yes. No AirPlay, unfortunately. I use my PS3 for big screen Huluing.

I've got one, and it's great. Spring for the better shoulder strap, it's worth it.

oh, I'm definitely getting the absolute strap. What color combo did you get?

Awesome :)

I am currently working out of town my girlfriend decided she would surprise me by picking up an iPad for me.

She said she went to London Drugs a couple hours before 5PM and waited for about half an hour... At that time a employee came out and asked her which model she wanted (16GB Wifi). He told her all they had was 64GB 3G so she bailed on that and at 4:30PM went to Best Buy.

Somehow they managed to not fuck up the release (un-necessarily long/slow moving lines)... She was in and out with the iPad she wanted within 15 minutes.

Black 16GB WiFi iPad = Get.

Can't wait to get home and try it :) (in ten days)
