I'm one of the big iCab proponents, but I've been using Sleipnir (posted on the last page about it) and generally like it better. It doesn't have all the features of the others, but in general the UI is just a lot nicer feeling and looking.

...other than the Google search having an issue with the resulting page (clicking the Search button on the page gets around it for now).

Is that the issue where you can't just get the keyboard focus on anything? If so I've seen that before, I think the workaround is to force the focus on something else, like the address/search fields or something in a new tab.
Not sure, there is a reply box on the home front forums and I cannot even click in it. I have to open the "import from text doc" option and type in there.

What it means is the next release of Flash Media server will automatically detect and serve proper video to iOS devices. It's all server side, you won't have to do anything. The videos will just work. Companies would need to upgrade their servers, of course. Could take a few months, could take a year, but this will all be sorted and over with in the near future.

This is same standard Microsoft is adding to allow Silverlight videos to stream to iOS, by the way.

Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated.

I can't wait !

Am I the only one that has problems with iTunes Home Sharing? Everything is set up, but most of the time there's no connection between my iPad and iTunes on my PC.

Oh, ok. I should also point out that many of the browser controls are placed at the bottom when using fullscreen mode in iCab and in Atomic browser as well. I agree that using browser controls at the bottom are much more comfortable than using the browser controls at the top in Safari, but I've found that browser controls placed at the side to be even better than the previous two choices. I'd recommend Grazing Browser (beta especially) and Browser+ over iLunascape and Maven if you're primarily interested in comfort.
Thanks, I'll look into them.

In my experience that shit is always flaky. Sometimes it happens to connect, sometimes it doesn't. I think it depends on whatever mood your iTunes happens to be in.

My home sharing is flawless. Except I think it causes a small bug omy iPad making it so the now playing box floats over my playlist list such that I can't select th e bottom playlists.

Is there a jailbreak option to be able to watch any video file type I want on the iPad?

There are apps

Goodplayer
yxPlayer

You can drag a whole lot of files into these. Simple, although you can get a few hiccups with some files

Airvideo
StreamToMe

These are streaming apps. I have a 2TB hardrive, with about 300 ripped DVDs and a few seasons of TV Show on it. I can stream content from that using these apps. Great for around the house viewing. Both can transcode pretty much all files on the fly - although BluRay rips can be iffy (10GB+). Everything else (even 4GB MKVs with subtitles and multiple audio tracks) work well.

So I finally got my ipad 2. Love it :)

One question. What would be the best way to view pdfs and powerpoints and be able to write notes on them? I have a couple textbooks I scanned and a lot of my professors do lectures with power points. It would be nice to write notes on them directly on the ipad.

Also, any good note taking apps?
As mentioned I don't think there's an app to just draw on PowerPoint files, but GoodReader, Note Taker HD, and UPAD can all do PDFs iirc. If I want to do that for PPTs (or whatever other documents) I just print them to PDF on my computer.

Plex. Also AirVideo. And many others. Some which will store the video on the device. Others that stream it.

I prefer Plex for movies and TV shows. AirVideo for everything else.

We've had this discussion many times in this thread.

Bought Atomic. It's pretty cool, but the little loading bar in the lower lefthand corner is really irritating to me. I wish there was a way to turn it off.

Is it possible to stream the videos through the ipad and then to an appletv with these apps? Basically what I wanna do is to use the ipad as an advanced remote and then show the video on my tv.

Yes for both.

Anyone recommend a good app for finance tracking? There are so many on the appstore and most of them confusingly built by 1 developer I'm not sure which to pick. Want to be able to track expenses etc. Thanks.

There is, in the settings. Waste of a wish.

I think my smart cover is deteriorating. It doesn't snap on as easily as before and it's less stable when propping up the iPad. And it always leaves those streak lines. *sigh*

It seems to work now. I installed iTunes on my Server, restarted my iPad and no problems so far.

http://www.photographyblog.com/news/wacom_bamboo_stylus_for_ipad/

wacom announce their own ipad stylus. i guess it could be interesting? they claim "25% smaller tip than competitors", though lord knows what that means.

My first reaction is that it looks like the Acase 2nd Generation stylus:

There is another branding of this stylus with a different name obviously on amazon for even cheaper, but i can't remember it off the top of my head.

Wonder if it's the same?

While we are talking about video players I'll ask this again.

Does the iPad or any apps have a video playlist ability? I wana use the iPad in the rear seats of the car to show kids shows to for a long trip with my Tot.

Is there a way of seeing all the apps you've ever bought? I ask because I'm curious about when I eventually have to start deleting stuff to make room. It would be nice to know that I can quickly pull up a list of all the apps I've bought, so I don't have to actively remember each and every app I've deleted.

Place the videos as part of a podcast series.

i use pageonce and mint combined. works very well for my needs.

Alright, I'm thinking of getting a messenger bag for my iPad + phone. I am not looking to spend a lot of money on one, I don't need leather or anything, just something nice.

The thing I'm worried about it something too short, what are the best selections for someone who is 6'2"?

I don't really get the keyboard cases. If you've tried to use the software keyboard extensively, but found it wanting, I guess they could make sense, but it just seems like it's antithetical to how the iPad is set up. I would get the cheaper bluetooth keyboard instead. I have the keyboard dock, but rarely use it and think it's harder to pack away.

Well my iPad 2 has shipped and will be here Friday. I am taking Friday off to be at home when it arrives so hopefully the day doesn't change or I am not sure how I would get it being I work in a town 35 minutes from home. I don't think FedEx has a distribution center in my town where I could pick it up either like UPS does (unless I just haven't found it).

So as long as Friday is the day, and they deliver it before that night, I should have my first iPad and my first iOS device since my gen 1 iPod Touch died a few years back!

Anyone wanna sell me their HDMI adapter? I have Paypal funds, a $15 Best Buy gift certificate, and a $15 ebay gift certificate that I could contribute.

Is there a music app that lets me stream my music and create playlists on my iPad? It's a bit silly that I can't do it with the build-in music player.

Does anyone have a case/keyboard recomendation for the iPad 2? Or perhaps even let me know if case/keyboard works well on the iPad... Is there a lot of delay in typing?

I saw this one a couple days ago and it looks pretty slick.

Thoughts?
I just have the Apple Bluetooth keyboard, works fine for the most part if you're just using it to type large amounts of text. It can be annoying if you have to touch the screen for something (like a mouse/trackpad would be nice there), or when you forget to turn off the keyboard and don't have it with you, but it's still within BT range so the soft keyboard doesn't come up (have to get the keyboard or disable Bluetooth).

All that out of the way, I've read some reviews on the keyboard cases here and there. They generally seem ok in use, but the main complaint is that they're basically netbook sized keyboards (to fit within the size of the iPad). If you're ok with those you should be ok with them.
