With my credit card still in transit (had to get a new one due to PSN) I am going to grab an iTunes card tonight, what are the first apps I should buy?

I want a good game. Love Angry Birds, so may be rio and then Sword and Sworcery. Anything else? Need to know how much iTunes money to get right away. :P

I just recently got an iPad, and I absolutely love Cut the Rope. It's made by the same people/team that made Angry Birds (though I haven't played that yet, as what I've seen doesn't interest me). Download the Holiday version of it, as it serves as a free demo, but has levels that aren't in the regular game.

Other games I've downloaded and recommend are Words with Friends (basically Scrabble) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Puzzle Quest, Monkey Island 1 and 2, World of Goo, Chu Chu Rocket, Peggle, and Plants Vs. Zombies.

Games I've downloaded but haven't played yet (but heard great things about) are Game Dev Story, Hot Springs Story, Smurfs, Dead Space, Beyond Ynth, Let's Golf 2, City of Secrets, and You Don't Know Jack.

I also have a few throwaway games that I haven't played yet, and can't comment on, as I only downloaded them because they were free.

Feedly for iPad came out today (free). It's based off the amazing browser RSS reader.

I'd recommend checking it out, I like it more than Reeder (I've been beta testing it for a bit).

Does anybody know when opera for the Ipad proper, is set for release? tried the iphone version; kind of think a native version would be cool.

Either a browser uses the built in Webkit framework (ie, performance is mostly the same as MobileSafari) like almost all of the current browsers (but are free to build around it and add features on top)... Or:

Create your own browser, but you have to do everything server side, which sometimes improves speed, but at the expense of everything else.

You will not see a non MobileSafari browser running natively on the iPad in the foreseeable future.

Didn't Opera say in a press release earlier this year that they're bringing their browser to tablets? They even named the iPad specifically.

Did they say whether it will be as shitty as the iPhone one? Because the iPhone browser is pretty shitty.

Well, I hope it comes soon enough for I know that it will not disappoint and I desperately need a new browser on the iPad (can't use iCab).

The rendering engine is largely irrelevant.

@Burger Opera for iPhone is Opera mini, a very specific browser for specific needs that does its job right. App Store ratings are shit.

I quite liked the Opera Mini browser when I had an iPhone. I was amazed at how well it kept pages in memory so hitting 'back' over and over brought up the pages instantly. Rendered complex pages much more quickly too.

Just a few quirks about it kept me from using it full time.
iPad version would nice, been waiting a while.

Sorry?

Most people think it's average/below average. Including me.
No one was talking about whether the app was good or not.
The question was, is it coming?

You said no, and I showed that indeed a version of the browser he wanted is coming.
Then you come in with the "oh it's shitty anyway!" much like the "well it cost $70 so it better be good!" remark yesterday.

Either I misunderstand, or you misunderstand. I said no to a native browser, one that can execute its own javascript, and runs outside of webkit. That ain't happening.

Unless of course he meant a native browser in the sense that it's all running server side, and sends a you a pre-rendered, precomputed page. Looking at the video you posted, it's not doing that weird thing where you can't actually read any text, like the iPhone version which is a plus.

I think he meant he tried the iPhone version on his phone, and he thinks a native iPad version would be cool.

Well I went to Best Buy see if I could talk myself into not getting the white 32gb wifi model. They were completely sold out of all wifi models.....didn't see that coming this far post launch.

Really enjoying the iPad2. Not really surprised since I have used iOS for two years and knew it was going to be nice hardware. I am holding out on the app binge so far. I have only bought Cut the Rope HD. My previous iOS apps can hold me over till mid May. Enabling the four finger swipes is a must! So easy and adds gestures that should have been present since the 3GS.

Yes. I tried it on my 5800 and on the iphone. And I tried the iphone version on the ipad. A native ipad version would be cool.

Yeah, he simply meant an iPad specific version of the Opera mini browser is all, all server-side.

Not something that can run it's own Javascript.

Yep, just a ipad specific one. The current mini, doesn't scale well on the ipad; and so it doesn't use the screen estate well. That youtube vid was helpful. Cheers everyone.

For the hell of it give the free Terra browser a try.

I was saying before that opera mini is the only one where it works at normal speed. It is lacking of course in other areas as it was designed for a much more smaller screen.

Edit: and here's the preview build in use:

Looks nice, but unless it has the same stuff as iCab, I'll stick with iCab... though, it probably will.. I dunno. I'll definitely look into it when it comes out.

I do wish one of the browsers out there would integrate Xmarks support though. It seems like such a logical thing to do. Seriously, people, integrate Xmarks into your browsers!

Someone explain swipe to change tabs on iCab to me. I drag the window all the way to the side and all it is is a gray, blank screen.

That happened to me a few times, not certain what caused it but it should work just like you described it, just drag the page to one side or another and it'll bring you to the other tabs.

Mother's Day is coming up... inventory is going to drop for a week or so.

Well I am on the iPad 1, so that may be the problem...we inferiors are getting left behind by devs!

I had about 5 or 6 tabs open when I noticed it...it wasn't horrible, but just was kind of surprising to see choppiness.
Web pages can be complex and many times designed/tested with x86 CPUs in mind, and mobile devices are just much much slower. There's a reason I've said that the main issue I have with the iPad is browsing performance. iPad 2 helps a lot there, but it could still stand to be faster of course.

Hopefully iOS 5 brings WebKit 2 with more improvements, and Nitro for third parties. Hell in general third party browsers need a lot of help, a lot of their functionality is done through JS hacks (...which makes Nitro even more important for them).

iCab is better than it. Don't bother unless you have a need for a different set of cookies or something (like for separate Google accounts or whatever).

As for other free alternatives I think Sleipnir is better...and have still been using it as my main over iCab, even if the UI takes up a bunch of space. Still has some bugs (which are predictable and pretty minor at least) but overall I'm still liking it better. The multiple tab groups are nice if you keep a bunch of crap open, as is syncing bookmarks with the iPhone app, the close gesture, and other stuff. The videos on their site show off how it all works:

I really hate that Vimeo Youtube content is inaccessible on iPad unless you live in the US. I'm surprised music companies are ok with all those missed hits.

I haven't tried all of those Facebook apps but of the ones I have, they were all pretty rubbish.
Sobees has a great way of displaying your friends though, wish the real site did it this way.
I hope for an official app soon, the actual site plays up constantly through Safari and chat doesn't work :(

Question all, I have my iPad 2 hooked up to my work PC because I want it to charge, the iPad says "Not Charging" how do I get it to charge via USB?

It'll charge when it's in standby. iPads don't charge while in use when connected via USB because of PC power settings.

turn off the screen while it's playing? the problem is that the iPad requires high-powered USB ports to adequately charge - and those are only found on Macs and enthusiast PCs/motherboards.

get an extra wall plug and plug it in the wall at work. you can only get a tiny trickle charge on a normal PC even if you keep the ipad screen off.

if you need the ipad fully charged when you leave work, get the wall charger.

Ah, didn't realize just turning off the screen did it. Charging pretty quick on my work PC while listening to audio, have a good new laptop though.
