I made my own capacitive pen to try it out, and I didn't get on with it. I rest the side of my hand on the surface when sketching, and this mucks everything up. To make it feel anything like my Wacom tablet, I need to wear a glove to guard against unwanted multitouch. And that's just not practical for me. I'm sure the Bamboo stylus is nicer to hold than my homemade effort, but it'll still suffer the same issue.
Some of the writing/drawing apps are designed to allow resting a hand on the surface while using the pen to draw elsewhere.

Probably a silly question but is there a way to delete a picture or video from the ipad without connecting the ipad to a computer?

I'm guessing no.

Photos: If their in the camera roll you can delete them, if you synced them from a computer, you need to remove them the next time you sync. I think that will be fixed in iOS 5.

Videos: You can delete them from the camera roll or the video app.

Sketchbook Pro doesn't have it... and that's definitely the one I'd like to use. :(

Is there a case like the Smart Cover that cleans the screen without the folds (don't care about stands, I got an iPad2 dock) as I keep on reading that the Smart Cover leaves 3 lines where the folds are that don't get cleaned.

The lines thing is overblown. I've had them a few times, and a quick wipe with the smart cover itself takes them away.

White used to be the default Apple color but somehow it switched up.
I'd go with white because there are less of these.
Yeah, white looks fine to me. Gives it more of an old-school Apple vibe.

For anyone saying it's distracting, I guess MacBooks are hella distracting too as aluminum can be even shinier in most lighting situations.

Just don't bother with the Smart Cover or its clones, it's really unnecessary imo (especially if you are going for the screen "cleaning" feature which is a total crock).

I just got 2 different stories. My iPad is a fingerprint magnet and I don't want to have a lint cloth with me. If a cover can accomplish what a lint cloth will, then that's exactly what I want.

Don't listen to Tobor, the lines thing is ever present and wiping with the smart cover itself isn't that great.
The smart cover itself is super handy though, I just always have a nice microfiber cloth nearby.

I'm afraid I don't know of any worthwhile clones.

It's an excellent cover, and you can use it to wipe the screen. I do it all the time, it works. I stopped carrying around a microfiber cloth as a result.

It's also an excellent stand, yet another thing I don't need to worry about packing in my bag.

Nah, not having to deal with a lockscreen or manually sleeping your device is nice.

What's the best non ludicrously expensive smart cover clone? And why does the iTunes cloud only acknowledge a tiny fraction of my purchase history?

OuterWorldVoice, you sure you are using the same Apple account to look at past purchases? They should all be there, even stuff that has been taken off the store.

if iPhone is fall.
so yes iPad next year spring.
I think they may rejigger iPad releases, too. Maybe not this year, but maybe it'll release during WWDC next year. If you look at sales charts, the iPhones used to always sell the lowest in the 3 months before June/July. If the iPad follows that trend and keeps releasing in the Spring, that means people buy the fewest in the holiday quarter, which is when Apple would want the most sales.

They used to always announce iPods in the Fall in part because tons of people would be buying them as Christmas gifts, but people aren't buying as much iPods now.

I don't think they'll ever do a joint iPhone + iPad release though.

Well sold my iPad 1 and it's cover for $275 (16gb Wifi only), which I felt was a good price. Now the only debate is to get the iPad 2 as planned, wait a little while to see what comes up next (we got our first iPad in December and while not upset, would have waited possibly), look at an Anrdoid one (not likely as my wife looks at the Xoom and Playbook like a joke,) , or wait for Amazon's.

I almost got a white one today, but it sold out before I got to the store. I might wait till I move to PA to get one to save some on sales tax, or wait till in I'm in Delaware in August.

Seeing as the smart covers are selling better than the iPod socks ever did... lol... iPod socks... Speaking of Apple flops, I watched Kick Ass last night and the bad guy had an iPod HiFi on his desk.
The hifi's still fetch a decent price on eBay.

I've had a smart cover since launch and I've never had an issue with it leaving lines. I take good care of all of my stuff and never let my gadgets get dirty though, and I always have an extra microfiber cloth on hand.

For me, smart cover + sleeve is an excellent combo.

I hope apple will offer the iPad 3 32GB for $499. I never wanted to believe it, but 16 GB isn't enough if you install many apps and games. I deleted few games and have about 2 GB free now. I have not one single music or video file stored on it (I stream everything over wifi), it's crazy.

Apps are getting bigger and bigger. This is not surprising, 32gb should be baseline.

I would be totally down with this because it would mean I could get 128GB at the high end. Yes, I could use it!

Yea 16G isn't enough anymore; one of the big reasons i upgraded to the ipad2 was space.

Mine hasn't fallen off once. Those people must be swinging their iPads from the smart cover or something.

Ditto. That thing doesn't fall off unless you *take* it off, in regular use.

Also just had a "duh" moment - set the 3DS on top of the smart-covered iPad and realized the magnet was strong enough to pull the 3DS out of sleep mode.

eh im doing a u-turn on my purchase, lack of hd screen really killed it for me.
will wait for v3 with a 720p screen, better camera won't hurt either.
i might just be swayed by the 10.1 while im waiting, depends on UK pricing

White is not distracting at all, but I prefer the white.

I took he Smart Cover off cause it weighs down the iPad too much for normal usage.

I've got a problem with my ipad when I download updates for my apps. Each time I download an update a pop up will appear saying something like "you've already purchased this but it hasn't been downloaded". I have to click okay for every update and sometimes if I'm downloading a lot of updates at once it'll start downloading but never finish and i'll have to go back to the app store to download the updates again to make the app that is stuck start downloading again.

How do I fix this?

Sorry for bumping this topic again, but I have a question since I'm planning on getting an iPad 2 soon.

I already have an iPhone 4 using a 3G subscription, but I was planning on buying the Wifi-only model of iPad 2. My question is:

1) Is it possible to make the iPhone 4 share its Internet connection with the iPad 2?
2) If yes, does it work on the Wifi-only model too, or do I have to get the Wifi + 3G model for that?
3) Is anything else required to enable Internet access if sharing's an option?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if these questions are stupid.

iPhone 4 can share it's 3G connection with the iPad--you just need the iPad WiFi model. Your carrier needs to support tethering though (if there is a "personal hotspot" somewhere in the settings, that should mean your carrier supports it). In the US, carriers charge an extra fee to allow this, but I think most other places it is free.

Thanks for the fast answer. Set the language to English on my phone and found the "Personal Hotspot" setting, so I guess I'm good to go. :)

To be safe, I would double check with the carrier to make sure it is free. Just so I'm not to blame for extra charges :P

Thanks for the warning, will do. Either way this just confirms that I'll get the Wifi-only model. :)

Bamboo Paper is nice! I never tried handwriting seriously on the iPad, only a small bit with GoodReader and Adobe Ideas, which made me feel the iPad's capacitative screen was too clunky for this, but somehow Wacom pulled it off with Bamboo Paper--it works so nice with just finger input that I am considering getting a stylus. Disclaimer: I have not tried other handwriting apps, so maybe I was wrong all along.

Hulu Plays Along With Apple’s New Rules. Who’s Next?

Here’s the old version of the Hulu Plus subscription app for the iPad:

And here’s the new version, built to comply with Apple edicts that kick in at the end of the month:

There's going to be lots of one-star reviews from confused customers. All of these apps are free, right?
