Reeder would be so much better if it didn't have the "stacks" screen when you start up the app. Too many clicks to actually start reading...

My god, I'm loving this device! Question: is there a tweak (and I ask this here b/c it would probably be specific to the iPad) that provides a scroll bar like the Android OS has? It is one of the few things I miss from my Asus Transformer. I've seen the SliderBar tweak, but I'm wanting something more like what Android uses, i.e. a tab that shows up when you tap, that allows you to drag it up and down to scroll the screen.

there are some browsers in the app store that can add the scroll bar for webpages if that's where you want it most. iCab is one.

there is no iOS wide tweak to add one. I'm not even aware of jailbreak solutions for what you want but someone may know in the jailbreak thread.

Yeah, there's one for such tweak. It's called Quickscroll 2. It's old though, hasn't been updated in ages and is consequently buggy on recent firmwares but it's still the first tweak I install after a jailbreak

Got my Mum an iPad recelty. She's going through Chemotherapy, and thought it'd be a good thing to occupy her in hospital/at home.

Can any recommend some sort of wellness diary? Looking for something basic, but that can track tiredness/dizzynes etc, and maybe add notes to certain days. I've seen a couple for iPhone, but nothing HD

CaringBridge looks like a fancy one. Otherwise, maybe just looking at normal journals might also be helpful.

My iPad just came in the mail about an hour ago.
I have spent maybe a total of 5 minutes playing with one before today.
To say I'm impressed is an understatement - browsing the Internet just feels so much better than using a mouse/trackpad

Pretty happy about the fact that a lot of the games I've bought for my iPhone are universal. Groove Coaster looks great! Time to keep exploring!

Yeah, can't wait to get mine, too. I'll probably just wait for the 3 in October/November, but I want one noooow.

Thankfully, many of the apps I play around with are universal.

iPad 3 won't launch this year.
And I seriously doubt it'll be out before April 2012 in Europe (Denmark at least).

Though I'm still waiting for it, skipping the iPad 2 and keeping my iPad 1 - it's still an amazing device I use every day.

Yes, it will. Might not be called iPad 3...but the next iPad will be out this year. In the US, at least.

No way in hell man, but what makes you so certain? It's completely against Apple's track record.

Is Steve lying?

Sure, why not? He's diverted attention before.

Even if not, there are so many ways to interpret what he said as truth and still have a new version come out this year.

Maybe it's an extension of the iPad 2 line (a la a retina version).

Maybe they still release one as iPad 3, but it's close to the end of the year, so it's still 'the year of the iPad 2'.

I'm not suggesting that any of this will happen or is even likely, but just saying that you can't just go by a single slide in a keynote.

I wish Apple would stop naming their products based on their generation. That seems so lazy to me. I'm not saying they should get all stupid like HTC and call it, like, iPhone Spectacular but....you know?

It doesn’t make sense for Apple to make an iPad 3 this year. they only now managed to get production up to the point to meet ipad 2 demand. and then they gotta ramp up production on a whole new product just 6 months later? and with no compelling market pressures forcing them to do so?

nah.

I think apple is going to be focused on the iPhone 5 in the fall (well, and the iPod touch, as usual). Apple likes to keep their product reveals focused on very few things at one time to give them maximum attention. they don’t need to distract from that with another ipad. especially when they’ll sell out of every ipad 2 they make this Xmas.

I understand that they could release something this year but as of now the rumors have been incredibly weak. Now they are rumors after all but some have a bit of backing behind them while the iPad 3 in 2011 rumors have very little.

You'll be waiting until the Spring then. More cash for the holidays!

It may be lazy, but I think it's the most effective way to let the public know what the deal is and that a new model is available. Nothing else will signify a new generation as effectively.

They only started in the last gen, but prior to that, most iPod models were referred to as 'x generation'. A while ago they were using features, such as '3G', 'HD', 'Photo' 'with video' etc, but that's not as good, I reckon.

The generation is simple and effective. Either that or name them after different cats, right?

:p

It's also a reason why I think they won't use iPhone 4s - they went to lengths to make sure iPhone 4 was named as such to bring it inline with iOS 4, and also be thhe 4th gen iPhone, why throw that away? The 3Gs was an anomaly after the the 3G naming, and was very un Apple-like, but was done to get the 4 in line.

Oh, I agree. iPad 3 this year doesn't make so much sense, and rumours are weaker, I was just saying that the slide means nothing, yet a lot of people love to use it as if it were some kind of evidence to the contrary.

IOS 5 will be the big product this holiday season - heralded by the iphone5.

Also, there's very little to suggest that leaked case designs couldn't be for the next iPod touch...

It just wouldnt make business and fiscal sense to release an Ipad3 the same year. Guaranteed news of the next Ipad this year, but an actual model? Dosent seem like Apple.

Eventually when they get up to iPad 6, iPhone 8, the names will look a little ridiculous. By that point, I predict they'll simply be "iPad" and "iPhone" like how new generations of the MacBook are just called MacBooks. It's already happened with the iPod Touch.

I really don't think we'll get any official iPad 3 news this year either..
Apple have a lot of products to pay attention to this fall already, iPhone 5, iCloud, iPod Touch, iOS5 and Mac OS X Lion is still new.

The only way I can see them launching iPad 3 this year is if those rumors of it being an "iPad Pro" or "iPad HD" are true and it becomes its own more expensive line, with the "true" next iPad coming in 2012 and continuing the main consumer line.

Maybe 10-inch "retina" displays aren't cheap enough for mass market yet...but at the same time, I can't imagine Apple fragmenting the userbase and expecting devs to rebuild apps for a tiny "Pro" chunk of the market.

Ya, and the year of release will be a subtitle or something

New iPhones are coming in June/July, it's like clockwork!

Yeah keep in mind that iPhone 4 and iPad 2 are the only ones that have actually been named by number...and in the case of the iPad it doesn't even say it on the box, and of course neither say it on the product itself.

Heh, not entirely the same and also further proof that a new iPad won't be released before the end of the year. Apple won't release 2 of its best selling products on the same time window.

Unless your last name is Gruber you have no business predicting what Apple is going to do, especially doing so acting like a cocky know-it-all.
Gruber was the first person to predict that there would another iPad this year...

His predictions are wrong more often than not and he'll be the first to admit that. He has sources now inside Apple which sometimes give him highly accurate information but, when he's not going off that, his guesses tend to be wrong.

Ok ipad gaf, i've been thinking about getting an iPad2. do you think Apple will announce an iPad 3 this fall?

For what its worth - I think iPad 3 will be next year.

its going to be

Iphone 5 in September/October
MacBooks/ipod touch in November/December

Its not like iPad 2 is selling poorly?

Yeah, I don't see it either. It ain't happening this fall.

reeder is so good i triple dipped. mac, iphone and ipad version baby!

this is kind of a dumb question, but does anyone have any recommendations for RSS feeds? i have reeder and really love the interface, but barely read anything on there - what are everyone's personal must-reads? i don't want any overwhelming news feeds or anything, just interesting stuff that i can keep on top of by checking two or three times a day.

If you just want interesting stuff, try Flipboard. I always use it, when I'm done with Reeder.

I searched back through the past 15 or so pages and didn't see it mentioned so I thought I would recommend Downcast for anyone that doesn't have an app for managing audio/video podcasts on their iPad.

They recently released a native iPad version and I doubt there is a better iPad podcast manager out there. You can micromanage your individual subscriptions for how many episodes you want to keep and subscribe to podcasts even manually entering in locations.

Right. My last name isn't Gruber...but...we'll see! That's part of the fun on being on an internet forum.

Huh? Users have no business speculating about an unreleased product?

One sec, telling the mods to ban all WiiU discussion...

How does the automatic downloads work?

So I have replaced two of my most used apps.

I have replaced Comiczeal with Comic Glass, it loads much faster and is overall snappier and to the point for me

I replaced Goodreader with Ubki's PDF Reader

Is their an iPad app that can download GPS maps to the iPad's internal storage rather than requiring a constant internet connection?

there are lots of cheap apps that can download maps to the ipad/iphone for cities. a couple bucks for a major city you can use instead of a paper map, if you want

now, if you want GPS turn by turn with voice then, yes, there are apps that do that too like Navigon but they are expensive (50 bucks and up) since they are full fledges GPS solutions like standalone GPS devices.
