Apple iPhone 6 [OT]

Hopefully.

I know I will lose it, and demand for a new box, if the specialist insists on opening the box; that's for ME to do when I get home.

I'm pretty sure verizon always opens your box if you do it in store. My friend bought a 5s a few months back and I was with him. It would feel so wrong not being able to open the box myself. Then they just went through all the icloud options for him. THAT'S THE FUN PART DAMMIT.

Good thing I ordered online so I get to open it.

It's probably a bit of everything. I'm only getting a 6+ because of the extra battery life and OIS camera. But the yields are probably lower and Apple probably assumed that the 6 would be the more popular model anyway.

I just realized something; I was banned from GAF when the iPhone 4 came out, and I've never shared that experience. Perhaps I will later on, it was a doozy!

Well, Apple never opens the box if you don't want them to once it's out, but they sometimes do it in the back before they bring it out; when that happens, I always ask for another one. So, even if you request otherwise at Verizon, they will still open it? That's shitty.

Dealing with Apple Store employees is so hit or miss. Some of them get that you're cool and understand...some of them have this internal script that they're going to run through no matter what social clues you're giving them.

Hopefully the personal setup thing will just be nothing more than a question and then you can go about your business since they'll be so busy.

I don't even have them unseal the box. I don't want anybody having the pleasure of opening it or touching the phone before I do.

I think here they open the box to inspect the phone and show it to you, but don't turn it on. As long as they don't drop it, I'm fine.

I'm so glad I'm getting it delivered so I don't have to deal with this.

I'm getting my case(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LL5DV9U/?tag=neogaf0e-20) in the mail in a few hours so I can post pics if anyone was interested in the same case.

Oh, I won't deal with it, I'll tell it to them straight.

Yes, delivery is nice, but do you really expect it at 8 AM?
Well. I'm at my GI appointment right now and it's 9:35. I usually get my mail around 10 so it should be waiting for me by the time I get home.

EDIT: Just realized you were talking about the iPhone.

I work Friday so there was no way I could've gotten it at 8am so I just ordered online so it could be waiting for me when I get home on Friday.

If I order one from the Apple website when do y'all think it would arrive? I'm just wondering about availability, I don't feel like getting up super early and getting in line so I'm wondering when the earliest I could get it is. My iPhone 5 is fucking up majorly now so I want to get it at soon as possible.

Why don't you go and try to buy one for yourself right now? It will tell you the delivery estimate prior to payment for the SKU you want.

Depends on model, carrier and availability. Go to the Apple website, put in your preferred stuff, see the dates for shipping.

They might not if you request it. I believe they mostly do it to activate the phone. I'm sure if you asked they'd let you do it in front of them at least. That stuff is fun to me though. I'm sure about 90% of customers don't give a shit.

There's definitely 3rd party stuff you can download that shows you system data like that, but nothing native that I'm aware of.

Which are the best 3rd party utilities then?

There's an app called "System Status" that shows you stuff like running process and CPU utilization. There's a sister app called "Network Analyzer" from the same people.

BTW, the "sealed box" people: if they take your phone out of the box, they typically leave the plastic stuff on the phone so they're not actually touching the phone itself. FFS guys, you realize that people touch these phones at the factory? It's not 100% automated assembly line. I have profound OCD, washing my hands like 50 times a day, I have game console controllers I keep in a drawer and don't let anyone else touch, and I don't even give a shit.

What time do you think I should line up Friday morning based on demand? I was planning 5am but that may not be early enough. 4am?

EDIT: This is to purchase, not for a pre-order.

Do you want a 6 or a 6 plus?

Either way I would probably get there the night before. You get there at 5am, id say you have almost no chance.

10pm or earlier for the night before. I would go around 5-6pm and see how the line is.

I have lined up at 4-5am for the iPhone 4S, 5, and 5S without issue. I live in Vancouver.

I want a normal 6.

I don't understand how honestly.

1. It's CDMA

2. It's so god-dammed expensive. To set up a plan that would fit my needs with them would cost over 250 USD a month.

I meant in regards to actually getting a phone on launch day. ATT sounds like a clusterfuck.

And you have some crazy needs then...

Wait, for real? I'm in Vancouver (Pacific Center) and I walked in for the 4 at around noon on launch and they had a lot.

Did they have any once everyone else was done?

How much data do you use? I have 10GB shared across 3 lines on Verizon with unlimited talk & text for less than that. If it were just the one line with 10GB, it'd be only about $140.
Did I seriously just say "only" to a $140 cell phone bill? The carrier marketers, they're taking hold...

I'm not sure. I was usually between 15th and 30th in line by getting there at 5am. Didn't stick around or come back later to see when they sold out.

At this point I'm pretty convinced that my phones won't be making it to me from Verizon this weekend, so I'm thinking about waiting in line at one of the local Apple stores in Atlanta.

I have always got my apple stuff through preoders delivered on release day, so the experience is completely new to me. If I go by myself, would they allow me to buy two phones for my wife and I or is there a one per person limit?
