Apple is really pushing China hard this time. Smart move to get the Chinese media involved and to create some more hype. The United States and Europe are becoming relatively stagnant when it comes to growth so it only makes sense.

If Apple does in fact debut new iPhones at both gatherings, it will be a significant departure from the company's usual product launches, illustrating the importance of the Chinese market. That a separate Chinese event has been planned lends credence to rumors regarding a less expensive iPhone model, which will reportedly keep costs down by adopting a plastic composite shell and current generation innards.

interesting. it might be a stretch, but I think if they care enough to have a separate event for China, that they might be more aggressive in the off contract pricing of the 5C, than the previous $500 rumor would suggest. Maybe they want to really make a move there? Go for a bit more volume?

I was under the impression that Apple was trying to expand its reach in China through agreements with whichever big networks it doesn't have a presence in now. Regardless of what this might or might not mean for the new lineup, maybe this announcement means they sealed a deal?

Edit: namely China Mobile, as speculated on at AllThingsD.
