So what does this mean for Apple's Winter event? iPad 5? Macbook Air w/retina? iPad Mini 2 w/retina? iPhone 5s?
Apple TV stuff and/or the next release of Mac OS X. Maybe another iPad update. Maybe a Mac Pro update.

Haswell's not coming until late 2013, so non-Pro Mac updates will likely not happen until then. At that point, expect Retina iMacs and the retirement of non-Retina MBPs, I think.

The iPad 2 is still in the lineup because of the iPad mini, they have the same screen resolution. So naturally to keep with their two model approach they kept the iPad2. It makes sense logically and from a business standpoint. People who don't want to spend top dollar on the new iPad can get the iPad2 which means there are more people buying 1024x768 resolution devices which means there's justification to continue to make them until iPad mini "phases" out the iPad2 (read: there are enough iPad minis on the market to continue to justify making 1024x768 resolution apps).

What the hell... ipad 3 is so much better than the 2. As for the comparison between 4 and 3, what are you basing that off of?

Uh today's keynote? What do you expect the iPad4 to NOT be better than the iPad3? Surely you jest?

As for the iPad3 being better than iPad2, outside of the resolution bump I honestly have to disagree. I've seen frequent stuttering on iPad3 that doesn't happen at all on iPad2. But as I indicated earlier that's completely due to the resolution difference. And again like I previously stated the iPad4 will be remedying that with the more powerful and capable processor.

The very fact Apple has been quick to replace the iPad3 with the iPad4 with a new processor is telling enough IMO.

it's a shame that misinformed presumptions that high spec pcs require giant towers have sabotaged your purchase decisions.

Hm? I use a PC at home that I built thanks to GAF along with a Macbook Pro.

I use the 27' iMac at work and the thing is just beautiful to work on. I plan to get the new iMac to complement the PC though.

I love the design of the new iMac, but am bummed that it no longer includes a DVD drive on it...

At least from all the features I've seen I do not see one mentioned... so I am assuming that you'll have to use an external USB drive... which actually might be better since you can go and get a faster buring drive

Pointed this out to a friend, but Logitech has this remote at $349 :

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remotes/universal-remotes/harmony-1100

Given quite a lot of modern Home Theater equipment is wifi enabled, an iPad mini with the proper apps may make for a good master remote control.

Personally, most if not all of my HT stuff can be controlled via an app on the appstore already.

Remotes IMO still need tactile feel with a touch screen for customization and flexibility. Going all touch isn't the way to go.

I was thinking of getting the new 4th gen ipad for the CPU boost but now I see it's the same 1.44 pounds as the ipad 3. So I think I'll hold off until there's a 5th gen model that has (hopefully) a lighter weight and smaller battery.

And I am still really bummed about the ipad mini price. I wasn't even going to buy one at 250 (which I was loudly predicting) but I think 330 is way too much for what they're offering. yeah, they a lighter, thinner bezel than the nexus 7, but their screen ppi is worse. The ipad mini pricing is way out of whack for the likely main usage - one handed web browsing.

iMacs are nice and I'll be pre-ordering asap for the 27" model but the 13" MBPr integrated GPU is lame. $1700 for integrated graphics is a shame.

Think i want to get a new iMac, only had macbook pro's before. Is it me or do all their Mac products seems to be getting more expensive in the uk?

This is the point. Don't force drives on to people who don't need them any more. If you do, just buy a cheap External Blu-Ray combo burner. They are available everywhere.

Same. The 3rd gen is still fine for my needs.

really glad at that Macbook Pro 13inch Retina news (some of my friends can finally have something good to upgrade to!)

kinda underwhelmed by the iPad Mini specs (retina should have been in regardless)

not sure what to make of the iPad 4.. I'm glad i didn't upgrade to 3.. but i'm sure plenty of "early adopters" would be put off.. wonder if the dimensions differ (like thinner)

I'm really tempted to grab a refurb'd 3 for the missus. $379 seems like a sweet price. She's always frustrated by how poorly performing the hand-me-down 1 is.

Maybe I'm not understanding you then. If your point is that the new model will be better than the old, then I agree. I just don't think it'll be as big a jump as going from 2 to 3, but like you said, they replaced it so quickly, they must have felt the same way. I'm excited to get the 4, as I use my ipad extensively.

So there is a tablet layout, just not on the Nexus 7?

The mini is cool. However way over priced. Shouldn't have been more than 250$. It's a mini. I thought it was supposed to compete with nook or kindle or whatever.

Also did they say it even had a retina display?

Last time.

What are the chances that Best Buy will no longer carry 3s in stock within the next 4 months?

How could anyone know?

Though, why would they have iPad2, iPad3, and iPad4 all for sale at the same time? How could they even do that, since the 3 and the 4 are the same price?

Most likely they won't have the 3 beyond next week.

the 2011 imacs and the new ones are not high spec. Maybe mid grade at best. Gpu and Cpu are clocked way low.

That is why I don't understand the iMac at all. I mean just add 2" onto the fucker and make it at least comparable to a PC. Why bother with these mobile parts? It doesn't run on battery. If I want a desktop I want power, otherwise I will simply use a laptop. Facebook old people usage is iPad territory these days.

I'm a little puzzled as to why they felt the need to do a spec refresh just six months after the last iPad.

EDIT: Will Smith just pointed out that it's to get the iPad onto a holiday launch schedule, which makes sense I guess.

I'm kinda bummed about this too. I assumed I might be getting the mini for my little girl but I'm not so sure at that price point now. Not at the age she's at.

Those devices are being sold at cost or at a loss.

?

most all-in-ones use laptop parts...

http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Desktops/HP TouchSmart All in One

think those are standard desktop parts? it's just not a big thing in all-in-one's. thinness is still king in this segment.

Disappointed that the Mac mini doesn't have a discrete graphics option. Would have been nice to have the iMac GPUs, even the 640M would have been good for gaming compared to the integrated graphics

I think they wanted to move the refresh to Fall.

So do you think there won't be a spring refresh and it could be fall for iPad from now on?

I'll probably dump my iPad 3 when the 5th generation comes out, assuming they keep the same backing as the 4th or do something else with it. It's suiting my needs and is my first iPad so not really in a rush to get rid of it.

I have kept saying that I'll be updating my aging comp and I think I'll go for the new iMac rather than either an MBA or the 13in MBPR as it'll be more of a family computer than just for me. Since my mom's macbook died earlier this year and she's not too great with Windows anymore, I figure the iMac will be good.

Either that or I can convince her to go half with me on the MBPR. I already have a cheap external dvd drive for burning/reading. Will upgrade to a bd one later.

I was a little sour thinking that the new ipad rear camera was improved, but since its only the front I'm not too mad

I'm not a huge fan of the lightening connect yet, and the processor seems quick enough for me. So I'm more than happy with my 3rd gen iPad

I like how when you go to the iMac picture gallery, they selected pictures that never truly shows how thick it is. It makes it look thinner than it really is. How deceiving....
