Haha wow. They really chose the angle for that promo picture carefully.

So i'm going to be looking to get a mac for programming some side projects at home. What do you guys think would be the best setup? a new mac mini with 2 monitors, a new 27 inch iMac with a 27 inch secondary monitor, or an old 27 inch iMac? How much are the last generation iMacs usually priced at after these are released?

Side projects meaning nothing requiring lots of heavy muscle? No virtualization, test DBs, heavy IDE running simultaneously on one machine? If so I'd recommend getting a macbook air for the utility and then two 27" 2560x1440 Korean monitors at $300 each. That way you get the laptop and have 2 monitors that you can also use for PC or gaming.

If you need more oomph ignore my advice.

Remotes IMO still need tactile feel with a touch screen for customization and flexibility. Going all touch isn't the way to go.

Guess I'm in the minority where the feel of the remote doesn't matter, consolidating 3 remotes into one device I use in everyday life matters more to me.

I actually owned a Harmony 1100 at one point + it never really felt right to me, since I could never get the delay programmed properly.

I was a little sour thinking that the new ipad rear camera was improved, but since its only the front I'm not too mad

I'm not a huge fan of the lightening connect yet, and the processor seems quick enough for me. So I'm more than happy with my 3rd gen iPad

Same. It does feel a little like they were stretching to get retina in, and this update has some breathing room with the GPU/CPU which is good. But I don't feel any need to update just yet.

I like the consolidation of remotes, but I also like being able to use my remote without having to look at it.

So basically they phased out the iPad 3 because of the connector? That is what I gather out of all of this.

I'm perfectly happy with my 3rd gen iPad but man it does sting a little bit that it was replaced after 6 months haha.

I like how when you go to the iMac picture gallery, they selected pictures that never truly shows how thick it is. It makes it look thinner than it really is. How deceiving....

Those things have always been near optical illusions. The difference with an iMac is that it's actually cool because you're not really picking it up like you would an iPad. So long as it LOOKS thins from that angle, it's all sweet.

My biggest questions is... Where is my iTunes?

I'm a little puzzled as to why they felt the need to do a spec refresh just six months after the last iPad.

EDIT: Will Smith just pointed out that it's to get the iPad onto a holiday launch schedule, which makes sense I guess.

And the highly profitable accessories that come along with a purchase of an iPad, especially now the Lightning cables.

So for kids educational apps: mini or 4?

I'd go mini. At least you won't feel as bad when the kid breaks it. :p

I'd only have considered the mini for that reason, but since I have an iPad I can't justify it at that price.

I'd originally bought the N7 to fill that need, but well... even kids realize the Android tablet app space sucks.

Not even sure why that's a selling point quite honestly. You stare at it face front all the time. The size was fine and I don't see why thin (in this case) was something to strive for.

Seems very strange to me. But you're right though, the photos are very deceiving. Hiding dat fat booty.

good idea kag, i didn't know the air could output to two HDMI monitors, is this done through thunderbolt?

iPad 3 could definitely use some extra grunt for that resolution. I think thats why they were quick to refresh It. I'm going with the 4th gen.

I'm all about consolidating remotes into a single remote. That's why I own a harmony, but I still think tactile buttons is necessary. Who wants to constantly look down at the device in order to control what you're doing on the TV? That's terrible. Harmony's get it right because they have both tactile buttons and touch screen that's dynamic for what doesn't fit within the buttons.

Yeah I get this (I'm an Ipad 3 owner too) but eventually a new model is coming. Next year the Ipad 5 will be better than the Ipad 4. Have to buy one at some point, and it isn't like the Ipad 3 is going to be obsolete anytime soon.

I was taken by total surprise with the 4th gen iPad announcement, seeing as I feel I just got an iPad 3. Oh well, not upgrading as it does everything I need, for now.

Why do LCD TV's continue to get thinner? People want thin displays.

He said compared to a 2.

You went from a 1 to a 3 did you not?

Just link to some benchmarks showing this big difference between 2 and 3? I didn't see it in actual use but maybe there's some benchies that can clear it up for some of us.

Actually ignore my advice. You're correct it's only with daisy-chained thunderbolt displays which is a ludicrously expensive proposition. In practice a single 27" at 2560x1440 might be all you need anyway if you're used to dual 21-23" at lower resolutions.

Love the new 27" iMacs. I won't be getting one, though, despite my insistence on updating the model. I'll wait for a retina kind of update.

So I have an iPad 1 32gb. It has been doing a lot of crashing on me lately while using Safari and Flickr's website. I know I need to upgrade at some point soon (ie 3mos or less.) Should I go for a used 2 at a good price or just try to find a 3? I'm not ready to convert to Lightning yet so the 4th gen is not for me. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated

Looks that way. But it is 2x as fast and has a HD front-facing camera.

Whether it's worth the upgrade to me is a function of how much I can get for my 3 on Craigslist.

For whatever reason trip advisor load the phone version on the nexus 7. It'd be a one line of code fix to load the tablet version. I love my nexus 7 but it does kind of sum things up.

I have an Android tablet too. I don't use it much anymore. When I did it was okay, but most apps are phone apps. It makes sense that developers wouldn't bother given how poorly Android tablets have sold. It doesn't make anyone that has bought one feel any better about it, though. Well...unless they got it for a really good price.

Android tablets really are big Android phones without the phone.

Do you guys think it would be worth it to upgrade from an ipad 2 to a 4? Ive had mine since launch day 2011.

snappier performance, much better display for reading.

depends on how much that's worth to you. our guess now that everything has the new A6 chip in it, these probably wont' get another upgrade until next Fall.
