Then why would Apple hire a bunch of failed engineers. If the story is true, and Apple head hunted them then they had to be doing something right.
Logic possibly being that they hired great, promising engineers but management failed to get anything done. Meanwhile either Apple will get something done, or will at least look a hell of a lot better on a resume.

It sucks for the company, but if the employees got a better offer somewhere else, that's fair game. Draw up better contracts.
Not that this was necessarily the case here, but that general line of thought can be problematic.


It's quite easy for a well financed company to intentionally kill competition by poaching its workforce only to later downsize them. It's a pretty common plan B if a buyout is not feasible.

When used in that manner it's obviously anti-competitive, whether or not it's good for the employees in question (at least in the short-term).

I would imagine low gas prices, and already efficient gas motorcycles killed any sort of investor interest in their business model.
