Slow day in your Europe excursion?
The iPhone 3GS was the iPhone 3. It was the third year and third release. But you couldn't call it a 3 because the 3G model existed. It would be confusing. It's not difficult to understand why some prefer a numbering system that recognizes the model number and release rather than just counting up every two years. It boggles my mind that people seem to have a problem following the logic behind calling it the iPhone 5.
3G
3GS
4
4S
5
HOW FUCKING HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND? Seriously having a meltdown over this shit.
Perhaps they did it with iPad to differentiate it between the rumored 7" iPad. iPad 3 and iPad Mini 3 etc might get a bit confusing, iPad and iPad mini is much simpler, and more akin to iPod naming conventions.

It's going to start to sound really dumb once we get to iPhone 6 which will actually be the 8th phone.
i just remembered they arent gonna stream this are they, fuckers
As I said, they backed themselves into A corner.
Once they called the second one the 3G to signify a 3G phone, they should have dropped the numbering after that instead of going 3GS.

No it won't. The number that suffixes an iPhone model is akin to a version, not indicative of exactly what generation or what release of phone it is. More people would notice and think it strange if it suddenly skipped 'Version 5'.
No it won't. Because no one actually cares.
Was thinking of switching to Verizon for that sweet 4G LTE, but then I saw the ridiculous prices for their new 'Share Everything' plans. Sticking with AT&T and praying they get 4G LTE up where I live or at least in Philly soon.So I wanna jump ship from AT&T and onto a better, more reasonable carrier. Anyone considering the same thing?
This. Who the hell cares what number it has attached to it? The only thing that matters is if it has a name that is easy enough for people to understand when it comes to figuring out which model is which.
Popular with the mainstream, but shit? Because BEP's fans think they're listening to the finest hip-hop ever crafted and everyone that knows better laughs at them? Just a couple of guesses there......Why BEP of all pop groups?

The one million technophiles who debate specs ad nauseam?
The iPhone 4 was named as such because it was the 4th iPhone.
Apple backed themselves into a corner and are obviously too risk averse to get out.
They did the right thing ditching the numbering on the iPad. They need to follow suit on the phone.
See people, I'm not alone!! Been saying this for months now.I think this would be kind of hilarious, but I definitely don't want a teardrop.
Maybe if they actually went to a true 4" screen instead of this widescreen nonsense though.

If they actually call it 5, I won't buy it. This 5/6 thing really bothers me. I'd be shocked if a company as supposedly smart as Apple does something this dumb.
Guys it's pretty obvious Apple is in love with the iPhone 4 design. Even when the patent files where released their mock up phone (the one Sony would design) looked like the iPhone 4. Also remember how pissed Steve was when Gizmondo leaked the prototype months before it was announced. Before then no one was expecting such a radical design change. Just look at all the mook ups back then.
They will just keep iterating on the product like they done with the MacBook Pro lines, iMac's and most of their other hardware. I wouldn't be shocked if they continue to go down Porsche's design philosophy, aka 911 development through the years.
We just have to get used to this design.
As a side note, what's up with the NFC antenna-looking carvings in the back plate? I realize it's unibody so it has to be machined down, but the specific pattern in the area opposite where the Apple logo sits on the back has me suspicious...

I still don't understand why they put the aux jack on the bottom.
That makes no sense.

these are the marks I'm talking about. Looks suspiciously like the typical RFID antenna design.
Supposedly, Apple has a patent on building an NFC sensor into the metal casing. If that's true, we could be getting NFC on the new phone. I really hope that's the case, because NFC won't get the jumpstart it needs until the iPhone starts packing it.

As been said before - when you put your phone in your pocket, *most* people put the phone in top first, thus having the cord on the bottom of the phone would mean it's close to the top of your pocket.
That, and when on your desk, it's closer to you.

I've got my Gazelle trade-in locked at $286 for my 4S. My company will pay $250 for my upgrade. The phone will cost me $450 + 36 activation fee (BS) = $486. AC+ will bump me past my spending limit, but I'm glad it'll be mostly covered.
Can't wait!

If that's NFC, that's probably the first time that Jim Dalrymple's "Yep" is incorrect.
