Is there any way to sync with itunes somewhat at least? I have play music but I never finished uploading songs since it kills my connection for some reason. I'd rather have the files locally too. If I find a good enough solution I'll probably just buy a big sd card.

New to android! I have a question: what's the best music player out there?

Free or not.
ZPlayer, Player Pro, doubleTwist, PowerAmp, Google Music. Not in any particular order.

What's the best visual voicemail app? Preferably a free one
usually the carriers have their own app.

Try doubleTwist or iSyncr.

Nexus 4 is arriving on Monday. It's my first Android phone (was with iOS for five year, WP8 for six months). What are the first things I should do and install?

Play with it a while stock. Once you are ready, rooting the device will let you access some more power apps and features like full system backups and you can get into theming and adding tweaks from developers.

Here is my list of apps I always have on my Android phones (some are 4.2 specific)
My top Android apps I think folks should check out:

  • Battery Widget Reborn, FREE http://goo.gl/FBjTg - Great battery widget, has Daydream setting for those with 4.2+
  • BaconReader for Reddit, FREE http://goo.gl/B3Z6p - Reddit reader, get your /r/gonewild fix on your phone
  • Any.DO, FREE http://goo.gl/3En5D - To do list, has a browser plugin for most browsers. Very nice for those of us who can't bring our cell to work. Add it in Chrome, and its on my phone as well.
  • Airdroid, FREE http://goo.gl/GHDvJ - AirDroid is a fast, free app that lets you wirelessly manage your Android from your favorite browser
  • Carbon - App Sync and Backup, FREE http://goo.gl/YuIGP - Carbon is the missing app sync and backup solution for Android. Carbon does NOT require root.
  • DashClock Widget, FREE http://goo.gl/WfqrF - Badass 4.2+ lockscreen widget. Lots of apps adding support for this
  • Feedly Google Reader, FREE http://goo.gl/Tb3Wn - Great RSS reader that syncs with Google Reader for a better news browsing experience
  • Carbon for Twitter, FREE http://goo.gl/dICvq - Twitter client that was super popular for WebOS due to its design.
  • Clockr, FREE http://goo.gl/YIrH4 - Minimal text widget for clock. Just kinda nice

Most other popular apps are easy to find, enjoy the phone! When you are ready to move on to ROMs and the like, read all you can on the XDA Dev Forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1907

I use Google Play Music because it's really light and simple, just what I need. N7player has an amazing UI. Player Pro seems like the most "complete", full of options.

I really like Apollo. Although I'm not sure if that's available in the Play Store as I got it with a custom ROM. Another one I like is the official Google Music app.

So. I removed all the extra lock screen panels available, and now I want to fiddle around with dashclock, but since there are no panels available I can't add it.

How do I bring back empty lock screen panels ? (4.2, Nexus 4)

Isn't it just swiping to the left from the lockscreen? I always get a screen with a + on it and then you can add new panels.

Hey guys, I don't know if any of you uses DashClock, but I've made an extension for it, and it's called Power Toggle. Basically, you choose what to toggle, and when you click the extension, if the connection is on, it will be turned off, and vice-versa. If you have suggestions about new toggles, I'll gladly hear it. I just won't be adding a GPS toggle due to limitations and privacy concerns. Thanks!

Now Playing is an excellent free music player in beta that is lightweight and has Holo. Google the app name and the download link should be on the creator's G+.

I saw the app on XDA today, beautiful UI, but I haven't seen if there's Last.FM support for it. Do you know anything about it?

Anyone else find Tasker a bit useless? I mean, there's stuff you can do like disable WiFi and stuff when you leave the house. But the thing is, you can do that with Llama (easier too). Then there's stuff like turning on the music app when a headphone is plugged in but I think Llama can do that too. I've been trying to find for several weeks what cool things Tasker can do but a lot of it seems a bit useless.

Anyone else? Or can anyone name me a few things I can do with Tasker (Yes, I've checked the Tasker Wiki and the subreddit.

I just gave it a try and I have to say that it's a very beautiful app. It still needs a lot of work, but at the rate that the dev is going, it won't be too long until it becomes a good player.

For now, I'll stick to DoubleTwist.

Please help me with my bad english

Also, registering celltowers is a thousand time easier with Llama than with Tasker. It is easier to use overall. It's also free.

This is the music app I've been waiting for. It still has some ways to go but it's everything I need and look for in a music app. It's beautiful, functional and makes good use of the features 4.2 brings to the table. Can't wait for it to get out of beta!

What file manager/explorer do people use? I was using Astro, grown tired of it. Switching to ES File Manager but wanted to see if anyone had any opinions.

Solid Explorer. It costs about $1.99, but IMO it's worth it. You can even browse files on Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive and FTP using the app.

I wish developers would come out with more original names for their apps because it's hard to google something like "Now Playing" due to how common the phrase is.

haha yeah it was hard finding it but then just added a xda to the search and was found easily.

Thanks for that app, its really good for a beta.

Disney has put many of its apps on sale for the low, low price of Free. Wreck-It Ralph, Where's My Perry, and Where's My Water, among others, are included.

How do I get apps that are not on the Google Play market to install?

Put the .apk on the device and make sure you have allowed installation from "unknown sources" (Settings -> Unknown Sources and check the box). Then just open the apk with a file explorer and it will be installed.

That doesn't tab doesn't exist on my phone.

Guess I need to update the OS? Everything I've read says that I'll probably need to root my phone to get the updates since I'm using something from 2010.

The option is under the Security tab. But it might be under Developer options for you.

yeah, that's probably it. some older AT&T Android devices had the 'unknown sources' option removed by the device manufacturer at the request of AT&T. it wasn't a big deal for average users until the Amazon Appstore opened and people were pretty upset that they couldn't get some apps that were being offered there for free like Angry Birds! anyway, depending on the device, there may be a guide to enable the option manually.

I've been using nova launcher. I like everything other than the lockscreen. Anyone know if I can add new lockscreens to nova or do I need to use a different launcher?
