Apps for Android |OT|

I don't think it's bullshit. The iPhone does that too. For some reason it's louder and clear on the iPhone compared to my HTC One where it seems to be barely audible but interrupting the music. I like hearing that I've got a notification about something. It could be something important. Maybe there should be an option for it, but I don't think a notification interrupting your music is something that is so odd or not useful.

The iPhone doesn't do it like Android. Or at least typical Android. The typical Android way stops the music period. The iPhone lowers the music volume and puts it in the background with the notification in the foreground. That's the way I prefer it. And it wasn't until recently that Android apps started to lower the music to the background but it is still far and away the minority. Google Music doesn't do it. Pocketcasts doesn't.

Kind of a strange app request question, but here it goes:
Is there a keyboard for Android that lets me use a standard 0-9 phone keypad (with predictive word select) for typing?

Even with qwerty keyboards like Swiftkey, I still don't really like texting with my phone.
Even though the Note 2 is about as big as it can get, I still hit wrong keys and it's just annoying to me.

The best/fastest typing I've ever been able to do on a phone was with my old Sony Ericsson W580 slider phone with it's tiny keys and normal ass 0-9, ABC-DEF-etc. keypad. Having fewer buttons to press mixed with the decent word recognition just made it easier and faster for me to text with.

Do you mean a T9 layout? If so, try out Kii Keyboard.

YES! T9, I forgot that's what it was called. I will give that a try out right now.

I've been pretty happy with Swiftkey for the last year or more, but I do wish it had a setting for this (if it does I haven't been able to find it).

Have you tried SwiftKey Flow? You can miss many letters and it still gets it right most of the times. When you get used to it I can't imagine the T9 keyboard every being faster. :)

Oddly enough the HTC One supports that as standard (in the options). I was shocked to find out my parents use it too.

It's bullshit, that's what. I don't understand why Google even started it like that in the first place.

See, I prefer it that way, because I mostly listen to podcasts and I don't want to miss what's being said for a stupid new-message notification or GPS directions. So a quick pause is exactly what I want.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.

Wish it was play, I uninstalled amazon store don't want to deal with it and its DRM.

I found a cool app called "Wi-Fi Matic" it will learn the locations you use wi-fi and turn it off when you are elsewhere to save battery life. It's free and the best part of the other bloated battery apps.

Android GAF.

I have a road trip going to Toroto. I expect I won't get any data for my phone since I am on prepaid.

I need a good offline GPS navigation app I can use in Canada. I don't mind paying up to 15 dollar for a decent one. What's your recommendation?

You are wrong. I just tested it on my GalNex to make sure. I have owned this phone for about a year, and I use only Google Music player.

It lowers the audio of the song (but does not mute it, it is still clearly audible) and plays the notification sound in the foreground. After the tone, the music returns to the normal volume.

Same thing with Maps navigation directions. There is no muting.

II heard good things about Mapdroyd, but never used it.

For sure it used to be the case. When it was updated, I don't know. Let me try it again to see if it lowers or mutes.

Here's my experience on a Nexus 4:

GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC:
Notifications dim music and play over it. However, MULTIPLE facebook messenger notifications (no idea if this applies to other apps) that come through at the same time will PERMANENTLY dim the music until the next track or a pause/play.

POCKET CASTS:
Whatsapp notfications will play over podcasts in full volume. Facebook Messenger notifications will PAUSE the podcast momentarily and play the notification. If multiple notifications come through at the same time, the podcast becomes completely paused and you have to press the play button to resume it again.

Android's audio notifications are pure shit.

I don't see this posted anywhere but FL Studio Mobile is finally out on android. Price is up there - $19.99 (Ouch). But there's no lag/loading like in Pocketband and other music making apps.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imageline.FLM&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

I bought it last night. I think someone with a lot of skills will do amazing work on this. I'm no mozart, but I enjoy making little songs. This will suck plenty of hours out of you without you noticing. I ended up messing around with it till 3 a.m!!! I need to stay away from this app until the weekend lol Works pretty well, some bugs and missing some features (adding your own audio), but they're frequently updating. It shows a lot of promise.

I used mapdroyd in Paris with mixed results. But I was looking for points of interest to be well done, rather than looking for driving navigation. Overall I found the TripAdvisor city specific apps to be excellent for POI and offline maps as they are designed to be used offline as well as online.

I think the expected behavior is the podcast to pause for a second. Whatsapp has weird notifications, overall. Somehow, it's the only app that bypasses my Samsung's blocking mode that should silence all notifications.

Does anyone know of a minimal widget that can be used with Google Play Music? I've been using Shuttle for awhile, but now that Google Play Music has been updated substantially I'd like to move back to that. The only problem is that I really like the widget for Shuttle, pictured below.

Does anyone know of something that looks like this or is heavily customizable that also works with Google Play Music? It's so much more convenient to just hit play on my home screen than to have to boot up the app just so that I can resume where I left off.

The pro version of Phantom Music Control does (the free version doesn't support Google Play Music), and the standard theme looks pretty much the same I think. It can be a little buggy on occasion with track info though.

With Play Music, what's the option in sync for? I've always kept it disabled. Also, is there any way to download to SD card yet?

Play music is crashing on my phone constantly. I don't even have to be in the app and it'll say Play Music is not responding. Kind of a bummer.

Did you update to the new version? Clear data and cache.

I wouldn't say Tasker is the most user friendly app but I figured it out rather quickly. It's just so damn powerful.

Right now I just have it so that whenever I connect headphones or bluetooth it silences notifications. Unplugging headphones or leaving bluetooth connection (getting out of my car) returns notification volume back to normal.

I have Llama set to silence my phone from 11pm to 6am and it also maxes brightness and enables rotation whenever I plug it in.

What music widget is that? Is is universally compatible (i.e. Google Music and Pocket Casts 4)?

Appstore has DRM? I didn't know that...

I got Tapatalk for the fun of it, even though I highly prefer using the web browser. I hate forced mobile sites, so I would likely not use a dedicated app. Besides, it bypasses ads and appears to load really slowly, anyway.

I can see why others would find it very useful, though.

Do people still use the CPU apps like SetCPU to save battery on current gen phones/tablets or does 4.2.2 work fine?

I only use Greenify to hibernate the apps that can drain battery or slow down the system.
