no son las palabras sino la pronuncación. Ciertamente los españoles lo pronunciarían "nezeshito un arma" y no "nesesito un arma", como los latinos.
 
If I want to learn Spanish where is the best place to start? I took elementary Spanish in college before I dropped out because he really didn't start at the beginning.

It's not the word itself, it's the way he pronounces it, like 'nesesito'. It sounds like some random Mexican guy. And while I have absolutely nothing against Mexicans, it's not the kind of character that fits Master Chief. Anyway, in Spain we would say "dame un arma" or something similar to that. But again, the problem is the accent.

There's nothing wrong with 'Necesito un arma', because that's the way it should be said in latin american spanish. You found it weird, or wrong, because in Spain you say it different.

Yes. That's the right way to say it.
"Esta película no me gusta" or "Esta película no me gustó".

The accent though, is different. Also from what I've heard, people from Spain, and more specifically Madrid (like me) generally speak faster than people from South America. Wonder if anyone has experienced something similar?

De experiencia, en sudamerica, los colombianos son los que hablan español mas rapido, y venezolanos tienden a tener un accento mas neutral.

"Esta película no me gusta" or "Esta película no me gustó".

Did you even read what I said? I said the issue isn't the words themselves, but the pronunciation. If you wanna say 'I need a weapon', 'necesito un arma' is correct. But the way it's pronounced is what makes it sound funny for us in Spain. That's all.

Well, in Spanish, "h" is silent, and "j" is pronounced more or less the same as the "h" sound we would use in English. So Spanish expresses the sound as "jaja" than "haha."

Ah well, that makes sense then. I played the game in English so I could never notice aspects like that, I don't really like dubbing of any sort (even when video games don't really have "actors").

It makes sense cause I grew up with latin dubs, so yeah everything in it's native language FTW! (well almost everything)

Personally I don't think Master Chief should be speaking Spanish, period. I'll take subtitles over dubs any day.

That's what I said on the first page, too. I just can't stand playing games or watching movies in Spanish if their original language isn't Spanish. (basically, I like to watch everything on it's original language, with subtitles if I don't know said language). Quality is pretty much always better.

I still cringe when I hear the DBZ or Sailor Moon dubs. Seriously. "Son Gohanda" WTF?! (I know we changed some names like "Chi Chi" for "Milk" but still :P). Sailor Moon dub is even worse D:

Argentinian (sp?), IMO. But I could be biased because I have a friend living there and I really like the way she speaks (the fact that she's very hot might help, too).

Ah well, as an exception for the subs>dubs thing, latin anime dubs have a soft spot in my heart for series of that time, the dubs were very clean and neutral but as time went on the quality degraded a lot.

Otro hispanohablante que jugaba RO? en Sakray habia un clan de solo españoles (bueno, almenos los comandantes eran), y era bastante gracioso..... especialmente en TeamSpeak hahaha

Well, back in Florida public schools would have spanish classes at night. Public colleges and universities would also offer them at times.

Best recommandation would be to do it yourself at first so you get used to certain things. My ex to learn spanish would just label everything in spanish and use either "el" or "la" so she would get used to learning whether something was masculine or feminine as that seemed to be the hardest part for her.

When it comes to dubs, as a south american:

Chilean > Mexican (although sometimes it would be better than Chilean) >>>> Spaniard
 
¿Me puedes enseñar español? Me gustaría aprender el idioma. Me encuentro con un montón de gente española en la que vivo. Por lo tanto, sería de gran ayuda para empezar a hablar español.

Where did you hear that?

In south america the name for Gohan was Son Gohan.

Hell, Im one that hates dubs, with passion, yet I still though that the mexican dubs for DB (and later season) was better in spanish (yes, better than in japanese, I know right?), the voices better matched the characters.

For me it is:

Spaniard > Argentinian/Uruguayan > Venezuelan > the rest

No veas, yo me echaba muchas risas con ellos (mi clan, servidor privado español) y con el tiempo me había acostumbrado a su forma de hablar que hasta al escribir (era medio timido para hablar por TeamSpeak) intentaba hacerlo de la forma en que ellos lo hacían para entendernos mejor.

Me trae bastante nostalgia ya que la pasaba muy bien :)

Some of the movies. During the late 90's and 00's you could only get bootleg VHS versions of the DBZ Movies with the spanish dub in Mexico. I remember watching the second Broli movie were they called Gohan "Son Gohanda".
But yeah, the mexican dub was top notch for most of the animes in that era.

Was the dub for Ruroni Kenshi chilean? It was alright I guess. It sounded quite different from the rest of the anime on CN.
