I started watching wrestling seriously (as opposed to just stopping on it if I caught it channel surfing) around 97. And that shit was often really tough to watch as a woman. I was watching Raw every Monday with my grandpa and we both cringed our way through a pretty big portion of the show. The high notes back then were just so damn high that it felt worthwhile to get through the hideousness.

No fucking way you would have gotten me to go to a live show back then. Now, even though 3 hour Raws have at least an hour that I tune out through, I absolutely love going to live shows.

As a 10-15 year old even I felt filthy watching RAW a lot of the time during that era whenever women were involved. I thought it was all due to Russo's incredibly creepy ass, but that stuff stayed even after he left. Vince made countless segments that had him directly degrading and putting his hands all over the Divas. His defense for it has always been "well that's just the Mr. McMahon character".

I was thoroughly lapsed by 2001 but I remember popping into a Nitro and seeing these guys presented as main eventers and being baffled at what WCW had become.
