ARC RAIDERS New Beta Gameplay Demo

Played a bit.

Kinda hit and miss for me, but I haven't played much yet.

Positives upon initial impression:

- I like the controls, they feel good.
- Art direction isn't too bad.
- Performance is pretty good on PS5 Pro, gameplay feels smooth, though I noticed a bit of screentearing in one area.
- Shooting feels okay.

Negatives:

- Graphics are a bit underwhelming (on par with Helldivers 2)
- Audio is meh, sounds really flat through my home cinema set
- HUD: why on earth did they decide to have the loot on the left side of the screen and backpack inventory on the rights side? Extremely annoying. Same as the loading of the loot. Just show it, it's annoying having to wait for each item to load.
- World and atmosphere feel lifeless.
- Combat doesn't really feel satisfying. No real impact.

Just first impressions, but it feels mediocre.
Maybe if I'll play a bit more I'll get more into it.

Something to consider for the "safety and compliance" reasoning for the lack of proxy chat in Marathon.

PlayStation Studios just published Midnight Murder Club which is just a proxy chat game.

If Velan Studios can get past PlayStations "safety and compliance" check, does it really check out that Bungie couldn't?

It's always felt like Bungie floated that as chaff to throw gamers off the real reasoning - Bungie believes it would make the game worse.

I played a couple rounds and I like it. It feels surprisingly good but I guess that's not all that surprising considering the devs. Controls are good, and the performance on PS5 Pro was great.

I never noticed screen tearing in matches like the dude below but a cutscene had some of the worst screen tearing I've seen since the PS3/360 generation.

This is just extraction shooters. Marathon appears to be the same way and Tarkov has always been this way.

It's loading because you are searching for the loot like you would in real life. It also adds tension as the longer you are looking the more vulnerable you are.

Love how good the sound is, you can really pinpoint where youre opponents are, overall it feels really good to play this one, so much fun! This one, Tarkov and Hunt Showdown will be my rotation when it comes to Extraction shooters.

Yeah, I figured it's probably part of the genre, but it doesn't make it less annoying.

The real annoyance is having the loot left side of the screen and your backpack on the right side.
Who does that?
(Arma Reforger does it as well btw)

In Marathon that isn't the case. Not sure how it was in Hunt, but I don't recall it being like this in Hunt at all, tbh.

Did Bungie actually say they CANNOT do proximity chat because of Sony????

LMAOOOOOOOO

The sound is so good in this game that it leads to so much camping. You can hear people coming from a block away. The game being in 3rd person will just make this a bigger problem. I'm still excited to keep playing. Definitely fun to be had, but I wish this was an FPS

Not the best to judge because i've never plated any extraction shooter but from the few games I've played

+Great atmosphere
+Unique artstyle
+Amazing audio
+Quite stressful especially as the session nears the end. Music kicks in and you know you gotta get out of here asap.
+shooting feels good (enemies feel spongey though)

-visually disappointing (on PS5 pro) textures are meh sometimes and pop in is quite visible. Draw distance is not too hot either. Certainly not a looker.
-not too much to do. Fighting/avoiding those robots is quite boring imo. And they're literally everywhere.
-idk how many players are on the map but I encountered very few players. I'd say the game is more interesting in squads. Playing solo felt boring.

How long was each match on average? Wondering how quickly I can get the 4 codes.

They've danced around the topic. The latest interview with Joe Ziegler brought up "safety and compliance" as the reason.

I'm not sure why a studio that wants proxy chat couldn't get it done unless PlayStations blocking it (unlikely) or they just don't want to give the real reason.

The more i watch the more i like this. They actually made these robots interesting. Their animations and sounds are crazy good and you can shoot different parts and they react accordingly. I think this game will do really well especially on console. Streamers having much more fun with it too

Is it just me, or is this game boring with very little going on?

Hunt PvE is laughably easy, but at least there is continuous engagement in some form.

Thats the request platform section no? Once you have access you don't need to go there.

i have one moreatch then ill send you a steam invite see if that works.

They gave access the it just popped up in my steam library. Give me half hour

Can anyone tell me if the binoculars are actually useful? I've been wanting binoculars to be useful in a multi-player game since 1986. Has my dream finally come true?

Graphics are fantastic, though this is from playing on PC. Console footage looks blurry as fuck.

Only complaints so far performance wise is minor stutter and that weird motion blur on close up vegetation. Im sure you can turn that off though not had time to tweak.

The robots are just a mechanic to enable PVP. If you don't want PVP then avoid engagements.

They are a tool to use. Find a good ambush spot, engage, then wait for suckers to come running into your trap.

An hour in and the playtest already has higher player count than Marathon.
Who knows how many people have gotten in, seems a lot more here was able to get into this than were allowed in Marathon

The bigger judgement will be player retention because Marathon lost like 50% of its base in 24 hours, lets see how fast this falls off

Seems like there is a lot more meat on this test, like alot more.

Last time i tried it was nothing like this, they have been cooking no doubt.

First impressions on this are good but they need an early access period, or a lot more tests. There a lot of systems and players will break it easily.

Currently camping extracts to see what happens.
