Are Naughty Dog going to remaster Uncharted 1-3 for PS4??

Especially after the letting go of the original U4 leads, I think they're closer to a one and a half team studio (i.e. two sets of leads and a bunch of coders/artists to switch between the two teams as necessary).

That's how they operated originally. But it seems like it's only Bruce and Neil who take the leadership on game development at Naughty Dogs nowadays after Amy and Justin left.

To clarify, here's the situation at Naughty Dog taken from an interview earlier this year after TLOU's release:

Neil Druckmann said:
It ebbs and flows, it kinda shifts. I mean our boss, Evan Wells, has mentioned this, we kinda have you know 3 projects that were going on at one time. There was Uncharted 4, there was The Last of Us Remastered and then there's kind of our next big game that's in super early stages right now. And note except for Uncharted 4 no team is ever filled with everybody so the resources shifts and move around. You know, we had a go at these two completely independent teams but we're still particular and selective in how we hire people; we never fulfill that goal. So it's more like we have one and a half teams where people shift around from project to project

I wonder are they going for a big collection like the Halo. Uncharted 1-3, a Hd remaster of Golden Abyss and digital comic series and the card game.

Since they don't need a long media build up to the game I expect it to be announced in December and released before March.

Not a doubt in my mind. The money is sitting right there, and the executives should be fuming if the opportunity is not taken.

The only fear I have is that Sony, in desperation, may go with a less-than-competent developer to do the ports.

Bluepoint doing this would be the dream scenario.

Ideally you would want to release a collection before U4 releases and if we assume that is Fall 2015, then surely a collection must release before April 2015, which at the moment looks unlikely.

I don't think so. Uncharted is a mega seller in Playstation exclusive territory and they said it is a good candidate. Chances are that it has been in the works for a while (much like The Master Chief Collection, though certainly less ambitious) and will be safe if they do like they did for TLOUR. Announce January, release June/July. That leaves 4-5 months before Uncharted 4 and that's good enough for a remaster.

Who knows, but I just think it's almost certain they will release it sometime or another.

I don't know what's worse, GAF's irrational hatred of UC3 or GAF's irrational love of Wolfenstein TNO

Dunno. I got the impression U2 and U3 are among the best games around, but U3 followed the landmark U2 and thus has some disappointment around it.

UC3 is a good game but it was a drop off in quality from UC2 imo, it was a shorter game as well.

These are completely reasonable opinions, I'd agree to a certain extent (imo UC3 is a 9/10 and UC2 is a perfect 10). My problem is with people like the guy on the first page that said it shouldn't be on the disc next to UC2. This kind of ridiculous comment is all too common when UC3 is being discussed.

Uncharted 2 had way better pacing, story and set pieces imo. Funny enough Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann had major roles in that game and not with Uncharted 3 (correct me if I'm wrong).

So hearing about Amy leaving and the reigns going back to those two had me giddy as a school girl because Uncharted 2 was my second favorite games last generation.

TLOU was first obviously.

They'd have to re-render all the cutscenes in 60FPS and I wonder if they still have all the data of those lying around.

But I guess you wouldn't just delete that stuff.

Do we know what both ND teams are working on? It's possible that they have one of their teams working on the remaster. Would be a good way to get everyone up to speed with the PS4s architecture.

No, Bruce and Neil had no roles in UC3 but to dismiss Amy like that is myopic when she still had a large influence on the franchise.

That's why The Last of Us PS4 exists, no?

Yea. Now that it's done I could see them getting a team cracking on Uncharted for PS4.

I'm not sure how much of NDs staff worked on TLOU Remaster but this would be a good way to get everyone some experience. The one thing that they might have on their side is that both series use NDs engine so they won't be starting from scratch like they did with TLOU Remastered.

Probably.

But if they were to, I sincerely doubt they'd put in the pre-patch 1.05 Multiplayer. Would be nice, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Haha I know excatly what you mean. Some of the hate for UC3 here is beyond pathetic. Yeah it had a kinda weak story because it was to similar to UC2's story but it was still one of the best games released in 2011. And the MP was fucking amazing. Alone the HighFive mechanics was one of the best things I ever experienced in a game.

So yeah bring on the Remastered in 1080p/60fps. I buy two copies. One for me and one for give away lol

All Uncharteds remastered for PS4.

1080/60 all day, err day.

I feel like the Uncharted Collection is a good card to have if a Naughty Dog title is having dev issues and needs to be delayed. I think they'll save it for that.

Weird, Uncharted was my favorite new franchise last gen by far and the most fun I've had playing video games in years. It's also one of my most replayed series (specially Uncharted 2), and it even persuade me to play online for a good while again, thanks to the awesome Uncharted 2 beta.

However, I don't feel like I want to replay the games all over again. I don't know... I guess it would be cool to play the games at 1080p, but for some reason I'm not as excited as I was with TLOU. Maybe it was because I only played TLOU once and I didn't play Left Behind on the PS3...

Anyway, maybe when I see how good they look and if they release them at 60FPS I will be singing a different tune.

When a new story trailer for Uncharted 4 comes out along with an announcement of an Uncharted Collection at 1080p 60fps you will suddenly have the urge to play through all 3 back to back before the sequel comes out. I know I will. :)

They'd have to re-render all the cutscenes in 60FPS and I wonder if they still have all the data of those lying around.

But I guess you wouldn't just delete that stuff.

You just don't lose the assets of a hugely successful game.

Unless you're square enix though.

Wasn't TLOU a pain in the neck for ND to port, especially in the early days? Seems like time and money would be better expended (atm) looking forward with new projects instead of reskinning the old.

Yes, but the engine is ported now, and I believe they've been upgrading the engine they used for the Uncharted series. That would make it easier I imagine.

Haha what makes you think they wouldn't have it?

Yeah, I guess so. Who am I kidding?

With richer textures and less spiky performance they should polish up better than The Last of Us. Question is do they have everything to rerender the cutscenes?

If U4 is coming out holiday 2015 then I fully expect to see a HD trilogy to be announced at E3 next June for a Fall release. If they do as good as a job as they did on TLOU then holy shit, it's gonna be Uncharted heaven next year.

I hope not. The last gen ports have to stop.

Why? Just don't buy them if you don't like them.
Plenty of people have not bought either ps3 nor x360, so these ports are a good thing for them.
And some would like to experience the games again with a decent resolution/framerate, on a console that is actually hooked to the TV.
