I’ve been gaming for 30 years and it’s worrying the gaming community appears to be getting even more immature.

PS5 concern trolling is the latest example. It’s as if much of the community has no idea how the business of this industry operates. How the desire for 24/7 news on forums like this isn’t reflective of the wider consumer base etc.

Sony are in the process of selling PS4 hardware, PS4 software & PS4 services. 2019 was their second highest revenue generator ever at over $18bn. Double that of Xbox with a much stronger tail.

Before PS5 hits the market there are huge title like TLOU2 & FF7R due before summer is out. It makes every sense in the world to hold back further (significant) news until the summer.

Social Media and Forums like this are discussing PS5 24/7. Speculation generates hype. To the point the actually PS5 reveal (or even the reveals announce) will break the internet.

For me there's no doubt that Sony will hit the $399 PS5 launch price. It worked too well with PS4 to change that and one of the reasons for such delay of their presentation could be a price cut on PS4/PRO announcement before the PS5 reveal. They're about to launch two strong titles, FFVII remake and TLO2, both system sellers and I think they're going to bundle hard both games with their current hardware. Final Fantasy VII remake will be launched April 10, The Last of US P2 May 29, I think we will have a PS5 reveal by March 15.

The truth is that Sony won the current generation of console gaming by such a landslide that they could sell anything at this point and it would generate high initial revenue.

Microsoft will most likely have the more powerful system but the PS5 9TF rumours have been squashed a while ago so why you are using that is beyond me.

Xbox are revealing games that are likely years down the line in Hellblade 2 as they are trying to create as much hype before Sony have a reveal event as they and most of us know that all it will take is one high quality press event and Sony will be running away with it yet again.

That is why just the simple announcement of a PS5 logo generated more online traction than an entire console visual reveal.

I am looking forward to both consoles and want to see both companies excel this generation as we need that competition back. I just feel like all this Sony are scared talk is nonsense as they still hold all the cards at their disposal and Xbox are fully aware of that, as you can see with their own strategy with them leaning away from console gaming and targeting streaming/cloud gaming instead.

Its already february they said they wont attend e3 so whats up! Common sense says they must have the weaker console and probably went back to the design board.

Sony did not attend last year's E3, it would be strange of them to attend it this year - but I hope they have some more interesting format for their next reveals because the current "state of play" format is pretty lame, it would take the excitement out of a 50TF RDNA 5 console with a 12Ghz Zen 4 CPU coupled with 120fps raytracing capabilities all for 250$.

Regarding a PS5 re-design, if rumors are true this is what happened, the console would have been planned for a 2019 release with the fast SSD tech, but parts around it would have been weaker (at least the GPU) and would probably have lacked hardware raytracing. So sometime back in 2018 there would have been scrambling and it was decided to push the release by a full year in order to make their console more competitive, specs and feature wise, with the rumored competition (I'm talking about the Switch PRO, obviously).

I won't touch the other points as they are just some kind of guess work on what are the feels inside Sony regarding their competition - I will just say that you should always be worried about competition, especially from a giant player like MS, not having some level of care about them would be stupid.

But, it's also early, the PS4 was revealed late February 2013 7 or 8 months before the release, xbox one was revealed even later that year. People still freaked out because there was little to no communications between the PS4 reveal and the E3 presentation.

Note that the transition may be somewhat different this time around, some existing games will probably be patched to take some advantage of the new consoles, the new consoles are likely to let you download your existing library on them and Sony will offer "true" next-gen games day 1 as well.

However, I think that performance matters, so long as the consoles are within striking distance of each other I'm not too worried (however, this may prove to be false after we see what they can actually do... sometimes a change is so big you can't predict what the effects will be).

Why not just wait and see instead of coming up with weird narratives in your head?

Playstation has a good momentum coming off this gen and unless something catastrophic happens, they'll do more of the same for next gen. If Microsoft are coming out with Hellblade 2 as something to be excited about, well then that's just sad tbh.
