Are Retailers No Longer selling the Series X?

Show me a screenshot so I can help.

What person who is in the market for a console and doesn't have a PS5, would buy an Xbox with the ass prices they have? Even without the PS5 Sale prices, the idea of spending more for Xbox is nuts, but with the sale it is fucking moronic.

Could be n number of reasons. From tariffs, to market uncertainty to economics, there isn't much clue ( besides declining sales).

It is a fact that Xbox( hardware) presence has declined a lot recently worldwide. Mat e they are discontinuing, maybe restructuring or maybe they are in a limbo and planning if it is worth it to continue investing in hardware.

Personally, it doesn't make sense for Xbox to continue making hardware.

Lol, I was curious and looked it up myself and saw a number of stores where I could order online from retailers, or even pick up in-store.

So, not sure what OP is on about.

For many price is no object & looking at the way things are going Series X might be of more value to some now that they might go out of production soon.

Doesn't make sense but this is the way some people are.

So I found this interesting.

I went to best buy yesterday to buy a MacBook and behind the customer service desk all I saw was PS5s and Switches, not a Series X let alone A.

There's no financial sense in a retailer utilizing physical space on a system that isn't selling. Better to fill that space up with more PS5s, or Switch 2, or whatever else moves enough stock to justify a ( physical) presence.
Have they? I know the games have pretty much disappeared but most of the stores I think still have a cabinet for the consoles, controllers etc. I mean my best buy has a big set-up for that weird kinetic type cube console.

I ended up snagging a Series X off of eBay for "cheap" yesterday. In box and appears to be unused at least with the accessories and controller.

I just dumped my X off at GameStop like a month ago but regretted it. I found one on eBay for $350 so even after tax I only lost about $10 since my trade was $370 (unfortunately traded it in right before the trade value went up to fucking $420).

I know everybody is all Xbox is dead and shit but I enjoy the console and get a lot of use out of stuff like BC and I figure the prices are only going to go up from here so I guess I get it.

NOW what I wouldn't have done is paid retail for one as I think their pricing is stupid.

Both of my local targets (only retail store I really go to outside of groceries) have basically nothing out for Xbox anymore. They have a small case above the normal one with a couple elite controllers but the case where the consoles would normally be is full of headsets and other stuff.

Online it shows they have a couple Series S consoles and until today had a Digital X but they must be in the back.

It's a great console. It deserves better than to be the second worst selling Xbox console. But it took them way too long to get the games out.

Agreed. People shit on it but it's still a good console overall even if I don't think people should buy one new in 2025 especially after the pricing changes.

It's still capable, had GP for people that want it (I'm not a big fan but I know people like it and find value in it), has great backwards compatibility, and I'm sure it will still get the majority of titles at least for the rest of the generation.

I'm extremely critical of modern Xbox though and I'm still annoyed at how they have handled a brand I have lots of fond memories with.

Suppose it's regional and anecdotal. I'm mainly just replying to the idea that low demand means there should be plenty available in stores. No, if there's no demand then there's not much reason to utilize shelf space for such an item( that's in general, not just the Series X). I mean, the PS5 has great demand but you can pretty much walk into any store and find a shelf of them, yeah?

Well, we're talking Gaf logic here:

Xbox not available - Bad for Microsoft
Xbox available - Bad for Microsoft

Playstation/Switch not available - Good for Sony/Nintendo
Playstation/Switch available - Good for Sony/Nintendo
Wii U isn't available in stores either. Because it's dead.

There's a huge difference between the start of the generation when you couldn't find a PS5 and everyone was constantly asking for restocks and now where Series Xs haven't been restocked in months and no one even noticed.

Stop the clownish behavior.

The question is whether walmart and other retailers are selling it and they're not. Walmart has a built in ebay type section, that doesn't mean it has units in warehouses or stores. You might as well link to ebay and say it's available on ebay.

The OP said retailers are no longer selling the Series X and this specifically says sold and shipped by a 3rd party. It's only hosted by walmart and walmart takes a cut for hosting, just like ebay.
That's enough of your childish antics. Off to the ignore bucket you go like the others have.

Lol xbox fans wanting MS to focus on windows11 is the most reach-around-y way to wave the white flag of surrender. Levels of copium I've never seen before.
That's like wanting your ex girlfriend to get breast implants and her lips done
She's not into you bro. It's over.

I mean he's technically not wrong. Walmart hosts other third party sellers just like eBay.

If you filter by only Walmart on Walmart.com you won't find anything. Actually there isn't any Series S either as it's just the digital Series X which they happen to have on sale night now.

The Walmart app, when filtered by Walmart as the retailer, shows both the Digital Series X and Series S, at least for me. But that's it. No disk drive Series X, none of the limited edition ones like the 1TB black Series S or the 2TB Series X. Just the digital X and S and a bunch of controllers.

If I include all third party partners, then it pops up with a bunch of others, all of them ridiculously priced compared to retail. Or "refurbished" units.

But trying to use logic with Kvally when it comes to Xbox is like trying to convince a brick wall to move.

Many of those 3rd party sellers that WalMart hosts can fuck you over and WalMart wont do a thing about it, trust me have been there

So while technically WalMart is hosting 3rd party sellers that does not mean you will ever get anything in return you pay for and WalMart will not stand behind them

So personally in no way would I consider something showing up on WalMarts site via a 3rd party seller as being in stock

I'm logged in as well, but this is what I see below. I don't live in Fayetteville, but Walmart.com does have my actual home address.

Weird. Not sure why it is showing differently for me then.

This is how it looks for me, but I was using the app. I wonder if that is the difference.

MS most likely quietly stopped production of new Xbox consoles around the end of 2024. What we're seeing is that stock that runs out is not being replenished, first in Europe and Canada, and now in the US
Yep. This console is likely costing them 150-200$ more to produce than a PS5 at this point. They just have bad engineers. In the end it's always about manufacturing price.

If you couldn't walk in and get a PS5 you wouldn't think the store had deliberately stopped stocking them.
Xbox might be selling like crap for a mainstream console but its still selling on par with regular consumer electronics.

Production and distribution has been scaled.
Thats what I was getting at - this is a reduction in supply. Even if demand for xbox drops even more precipitously this year from last there will still be a demand for a million or more - no way stores are thinking it isnt worth having them on shelves.

Why wouldn't they? Stores make nothing from the console itself. Not in any shape to take up so much shelf space. They make it from selling it with software. Well, they're not producing physical copies nor are people buying them. Thus, stores don't want to carry the big box with little to know profit margin.

Why would the store make less money when selling a console versus a TV for example? Maybe I am missing a piece here?

What little I can chime in here is that when I worked Microcenter we had access to be able to see purchase orders and whatnot as employees so we knew we could price match at without losing money or for employee purchases. But yeah, consoles margins are paper thin and games on average were bought with credit so if they had to price match or do sales their seller could adjust and still make money. Accessories are where it's at in terms of cost/benefit ratio and it's why they push hard on even the most ridiculous of them with "bundles"

Televisions are similar outside of the real high end models and even then you want to sell service plans, etc to really rake in money. Retail is a losing game outside of Best Buy, Microcenter and Amazon in the US At-least, I know Europe, Asia and Australia are different ball games in general.

The PS5 has sold consistently well this gen, of course you wouldn't think a store had stopped selling them if you couldn't find one at a given point. We know Xbox sales have fallen off a cliff, last year they moved 3 million in 2024. Are stores 'deliberately' not carrying them? No, I wouldn't go that far and I think you took my initial reply to you in the most literal of senses. If someone walks into their neighborhood best buy routinely and can't find one, the distinction between 'deliberately' not carrying them and 'sorry, we don't have any in stock' is neither here nor there to the person looking. Again, it's an anecdotal thing, a timing thing, a regional thing, whatever. In my isolated part of Europe, I can tell you we have a few retailers that DO NOT carry Xboxes in store. Period. That falls under regional and anecdotal.

Overall XBox is barely selling, stores are barely carrying them if at all and the odds of just casually finding one are getting slimmer and slimmer. Walk into your Walmart 10 times, maybe one time you see an Xbox, two times if you're having a really lucky month. Yeah, they're still carrying them but...... like what is the actual point of contention here?

What do you think, should I already be wallowing in regret for selling my Series X last year? Is it about to become a piece of gaming history, like a Concord PS5 controller?

Depends on why you sold it really. I traded mine in a month or so ago and I regretted it but my reasons for regret are as follows:
  • Backwards compatibility with 360 and OG Xbox including games not playable anywhere else.
  • Some games that I had started and/or wanted to start that I don't have anywhere else.
  • While I have a capable PC (4070S/5600x) in a ITX build (Terra) that's not hard to move back and forth between my desk and my tv I like having a dedicated device for my TV. I currently move my PC over when I want to play a game on my tv but I found that sometimes I just won't bother.

Pretty much no reason but value. I have a PC and retained a used cheap Series S for everything else you say. I'm mostly being facetious that a Series X system is similar in rank to a Concord PS5 controller.
