Are Transitions Lenses still a fashion faux pas?

I wear my Transitions at night...

frames for eyeglasses are shaped differently than frames for sunglasses

i've also never seen someone wear transition lenses in frames that actually look cool

mad cargo pants in this thread

The main difference between traditional eyeglasses and sunglasses is that sunglasses tend to have oversized lenses. If you don't care for the Paris Hilton look though, you can easily get dark lenses put in smaller frames.

Most likely you've just never noticed the transition lenses in the "cool" frames because you assumed they were normal lenses.

Transitions can be used in any frame.

Ah don't be that way I was only joking, I have transitions myself, I guess I just wasn't being very funny, or at least it might have been hard to tell I was joking considering its only text on the internet.

Oh I'm not bothered by it at all lol, it just seems like something kids might have issues with, not grown ass men.

Edit: I should stop posting in here before people think I sell the damned things lol

Well then.

I was about to get a pair of these with transitions lenses.
I won't be now, though. I had no idea there was a stigma, and I am extremely relieved as I was about to ruin a very expensive set of frames with dorky lenses.

EDIT: When I google "transitions lenses stigma" this thread is the first result and the only one alluding to this negativity. WTF?

Try searching "transitional lenses" and "nerdy" or "dorky" or "ugly" or "pervy" and then you will get the real results.

So weird. Glad I don't need glasses, but if I did I wouldn't have any problem with transitions. Fuck trends and what other people find 'dated'. My comfort >>> some random with nothing better to do than to worry about what I lenses I am wearing.

I always believe everything I read on the internet from websites I've never heard of.

Edit: oops, double post. Dammit.

The point is that there is a bunch of people on a wide range of websites that unanimously acknowledge that a stigma exists and yet you are still denying that?

By all means keep wearing them, no one really cares, but wear them with the knowledge that some people think they're unattractive. My glasses have very thick lenses that people say are "rapey" or "unabomber-esque" but I can't do anything about it so I just laugh along with them because I can see the humor in it on some level.

Everyone thinks something is ugly when other people don't. Literally with everything.

Doesn't mean its a stigma, its just real life.

I've been wearing transitions with these frames since '08:

No one has ever said anything to me about them.

That makes zero sense. How is that different from sunglasses?

No one would say anything. But I'm not sure how you can handle coming inside a public place still looking like you are wearing sunglasses...

I have never heard of anybody saying that they are a no no. This is the first time I have ever heard of this. I don't wear glasses so I guess I wouldn't know anyways.

I don't think many people have "issues" with them. That's reading into the discussion incorrectly. No one here is gonna confront a stranger on the street about wearing them. The OP just asked about how they're viewed from a fashion perspective, and got an answer.

Try searching "video games" and <insert negative connotation here commonly associated with them and the people that play them here>. Just because something is on the internet, doesn't make it true. This is doubly so with fashion where anything and everything is regarded negatively by somebody.

That and negative comments on the internet outweigh positive ones by an order of magnitude greater than what the real skew is.

finally some taste in here

Never worn sunglasses myself. Just don't look good on me and I feel weird with them on my face. I think it's ridiculous to think transitions are a fashion "faux-pas". They're utilitarian because they allow you to have prescription eyeglasses but also then have the glare and UV protection of sunglasses. Who wants to lug two pairs of glasses around? Or deal with contacts? Much easier to have transition glasses, get out in sun, they darken, go inside they lighten etc. I don't wear glasses though, so can't really say much beyond that.

Haha wait, there's a stigma around transition lenses? Why? Oh well. Have had mine since high school, convenience is convenience.

Edit: Yikes, GAF. Getting a massive "nerds desperately looking for something else to make fun of" vibe from some of the posts ITT.

just put your regular eyeglass case in your girls purse and then swap glases when you enter buildings

Just rolled my eyes so hard that the whites of my sclerae actually triggered my transition lenses. The tryhard level in this thread is off the damn charts, lmao.

I have transitions on my polka dot glasses and it works for that pair. I don't have it on my other pairs though. I say as long as you have more than one pair, having a single pair with transitions is fine. Beats having to put contacts in to wear sunglasses to run an errand.

I was just pointing out that there is a stigma, I know videogames have plenty of negative stigma attached as well. It doesn't have to be true but it's there. Some people will see me a certain way if I play a lot of games and people will see those who don transitional lenses in a certain way. Luckily I don't play games to be cool or make any fashion statement by it.

The fact that they are unfashionable only matters if you're trying to be fashionable so yeah people will continue to wear them for their function. I don't think people have any problem with the general concept of a pair of glasses that automatically tints. The resulting product is awkward in that not all frames look good as both eyeglasses and sunglasses and the technology isn't perfect which makes it appear as if people are wearing sunglasses indoors. That's what makes them unfashionable. Also it should be pointed out that if you have a newer pair that transitions really fast then they probably aren't a problem. It's only a problem if it's obvious.

I'm a -7.50 with high astigmatism. i'd have to keep them on inside and carrying around 2k worth of glasses isn't smart. I like the convenience of the one pair. For some people, paying the extra 80.00 for transition is more appealing than buying another pair of glasses. But, like I said, i chose a "fun" frame to work with transitions. I think they look stupid on certain frames.

True, a "fun" frame would probably go well with transition lens, but the frames that are fashionable for males today just don't suit them.
