Personally, I never really gelled with the car ads that never really address the car in any real way. About the only one that clicked with me was the one with all the smashed up subarus headed to the junk yard and each time it was "they lived". I guess it's sorta like this volvo ad but FAR more direct. Besides, Volvo is chinese owned now, so that's a no go.

There (was) nothing wrong with their cars other than being really expensive to fix if something went wrong.

The E-Type is still one of the prettiest cars ever made in my opinion.

I dunno what the hell they are doing with this rebrand, something has gone very wrong.

Jaguar's a dying brand at this point, Why not go back to the 90s designs since nostalgia is hot right now? Even car adverts peaked in the 90s

Then come back with... 'You really thought we'd change' or something with some ferocious Jaguar shooting lasers from its eyes transforming into a kick ass new aggressive looking sports car...

Who am I kidding, it's naff woke nonsense for a new fluffy, boring, safe, eco friendly electric car isn't it?

This ad I actually finished watching and made me go "holy shit". I got too bored of the Volvo one yesterday and turned it off.

It just kept going and I got tired waiting for the car to show up -which admittedly I thought it would, eventually. I just skipped through it and apparently you hardly see the vehicle and get close up shots of rims.

I guess advertising isn't always about the product anymore, it's espousing the alleged views and opinions of "the company" selling it. Ya know, all cars are samey anyway, point A to B right, get one from a company that spent money to convince you they stand for some issue, there's the differentiator.

I first expected a gimmick like racing to the hospital in the car, which I still saw as just a way to inject a message into a car ad for points but at least that tied the message to the car! Nah, the car isn't even important, just dump a message tied to a brand name.

I see Jaguar is trying to find that mythical modern audience. Imagine if Concord was $100,000 a go. I don't think non binary vegans who ride a bike are going to buy one of these.

Jaguar has always had a tough slog to get to the top of the luxury tier. Their cars have been historically shit. The styling might be fine and the Jag mascot piece is iconic, but quality wise have always been rated trash compared to other brands. I even remember my dads stack of Consumer Reports mags from the 90s and Jags would consistently get bad scores with the dreaded Black Dot ratings for reliability, durability and electrical systems.

I dont think times have changed skimming articles years ago when I scoping out a new car (I was interested in the XE).

They should sink all that newfound marketing money into hiring better engineers. The cars have been sub-par quality for probably 50 years.

Agreed.

Volvo is a brand for families or white collar professionals. Your typical suburban person or fam with kids, where safety is a concern. Not cheap cars too, so the buyer will likely be upper middle class. I was looking at an S60 years back myself.

I think it's a great ad for the audience.

My point is you still barely see the car, but I get it with that one, it's more a short story than an advert. It's a bit like what BMW did with their short stories (they did show the car more though but it was still more about the story than the car itself)

Edit: and I like Volvos, as a 52 year old family man they are great cars, but that 'advert' didn't sell me on a car. Weirdly, I have looked at Jaguars recently as their prices are very cheap second hand, but insurance for what I was looking at was insane, as was mpg, and any repair costs obviously, but that's what you get looking at a supercharged V8 car.

The main thing it is, is grotesquely out of date, and so far behind the zeitgeist. it's not even funny.

When university lecturers teach marketing students about campaign timing, they should use this as the best example possible of how not to do it.
 
Jaguar seems to think being gay/lgbt = creativity

While at the same time releasing one of the worst commercials ever done.

If the logo looks like this, imagine the cars. The luxury 100k$+ inclusive and diverse (as long as you're gay or lgbt) car.
 
It's not like Jags are selling cars left and right. Their cars are unreliable pieces of garbage. If they can't even compete in the luxury market, they might as well dig their grave faster by chasing the imaginary one I guess

For many years in Poland there was a joke that Volvo is the only car that gives you a chance of living after a car accident involving a truck. That’s how high people though about Volvo safety.

The creator of the Volvo company put a hard focus on safety back in the 1940's because his wife died in a car accident. So Volvo making an ad based around the idea of family and safety makes perfect sense.

It's advertising to the customer base it's supposed to. Volvo knows it's guns and lane and sticks to them.

This Jaguar teaser/ad isn't aimed at anyone who likes cars but at people who either only see a car to get around or hates cars in general. It's aimed at people who wouldn't buy a new car if they would buy a car at all.

These are people who can't read the room. It's why they retreat to places like Era and Bluesky. They can stay in their happy little echo chambers to get brownie points, back pats and good jobs but never make a solid cent off it all.

Well i cant vote for the truck claim (though i have seen dashcam vids of people getting out of a Volvo after hitting a semi-truck) i do have a personal anegdote of a friend that got t-boned in an old V70, while going 90km/h, flew off road, did a few flips and turns and got out with a bloody lip.

The old Volvo's really were something

Nice ad. Seems like a rebrand to target new customers.

Probs one of the best marketing stunts of the year … talk of the town for close to a week and about to launch something new to a new audience.

Fact of the matter is they have nothing to lose they sell 64000 cars a year .. barely keeping the lights on. This is the most traction they have had in decades
