Happy with the graphics, unhappy with the lack of (great) games.
This.
Graphically the console is fine. No major issues. It would be nice to see something that really pushes the console but just having more games helps.

Nope.
- Too much colors which should probably make us overlook the easy geometry of most Nintendo games
- Their bloom shading engine is terrible (ex.1: Wind Waker)
- Most areas in Nintendo games are empty, no level geometry and probably the main reason why we won't see any third-person shooter with cover mechanics based on chest-high walls so soon
- Textures are borderline last-gen; it's like they use YouTube compression-filter on everything
- Their lighting engine is of poor quality; they didn't make any big steps since Mario Sunshine
- Lack of post-processing effects is annoying. If I turn, the world needs to blur into a unrecognizable mess to give attributes such as precision less meaning => more emphasis on action
- Ignoring industry standards such as using a more unsaturated color palette (brown, grey, the good colors in general) or lens flares for light bulbs is almost insulting and pretentious
Those clowns will never reach the ceiling of perfect visual expression since they are so busy with having a appealing art style that they ignore the technical necessities of games today. Sorry, I don't need your 1080p or 60 FPS bullshit when I can have 30 fps and basically a painting to look at, thanks Nintendo
I just finished this level. The water is so bad. Do people think water looks like this?
I'm not sure. 3DW seems to be using a lot of the same things that the Galaxy games did, though the Galaxy games had a sharper look with less bloom lighting and fewer, "We just discovered shaders!!!" moments than the 3DW game. That water is the prime example, but there are other examples too.
I might just be in the boring part of the game still but Galaxy made a much grander visual impression on me than 3DW has. That game had vision.
Graphics aren't the issue for the wii u. 360 level of graphics will be fine with me from here on out.
But why would you want Nintendo to release a downgraded Wii U?
Graphics are ok i guess. Just nothing that i haven´t alreasy seen (better) on my PS3.
Come on. When you narrow that down to games that run at completely stable 60FPS (like Super Mario 3D World) you're going to see one part of what makes Wii U so great. Nintendo aiming for 60FPS with most of their games.
PS360 also has 7 years of super cheap, amazing games.
You can also look at PS4 being much more powerful, more more storage space, for $100 more.
These things don't exist in a vacuum.
Mario is better looking than anything else have I played this week including Ryse and KZ. Though you could argue a lot of that is art direction Nintendo finally have enough hardware power to support the art and make something amazing.
It's only going to get better from here.
For the price the graphics leave me unsatisfied.
There are plenty of games running 60fps on PS3 as well, i don´t see how that in itself is an achievement.
That is great for you. Time to abandon the thread for me.
The water in this pic looks worse than the other one! It's extremely obviously a small tile repeated over and over again.

Mario 3D World, Pikmin and Wonderful 101 look good and have a beautiful artstyle but they hardly get you excited with their graphics if you are used to PS3 and 360.
Very satisfied. Mario World and Wind Waker HD look fantastic. And I own a PS4, Xbox One and a high end PC.
Brute force rendering and fancy tech will always he trumped by good art direction. Hand in hand, they can work wonders.
This is basically what I think I am waiting on. I just can't see spending all that money when I have so many games in my backlog. Sure, it's not a huge difference being $50-100 difference, but it is enough to keep me from finally pulling the trigger. I am getting that point where the system does have a good half dozen games that I do really want to play as of now, and the new donkey Kong won't hurt either!Yes, but it's still not worth $299.
$199 basic, $249 bundle.

But the graphics we see with Pikmin and such have been reproduced by 360 and such, but not as often since most games usually aimed towards realistic rather than cartoony.
But you'll still see some draw dropping aesthetics in terms of color if u play GTA and such
It's meant more to pay attention to other details, such as the lighting, splash effect, waterfalls etc... , than the water itself. In motion it's much harder to tell it's just a tile.
More than. Specs are specs but art direction goes a very long way.
Chû Totoro;91114337 said:PS4 and Xbox One on the other hand are maybe at an even worse level that the one Wii U was at launch.
But when it does...

Not even close. Wii U was a barren wasteland (NSMBU and ZombiU?). XB1/PS4 have DR3/Forza/KZ/Knack/NFS:Rivals/BF4/COD:G/NBA2K14/Resogun/Killer Instinct
I agree on other points. But that's some serious ostrich shit right there.
Specs are specs. But with more power there are new places to go with art style too.
With PS4 level hardware they could go in this direction for example.
This is not possible to reach (iq, polygon count, lighting quality), but you could get something quite impressive and much better looking than Wii U.
