I know of Ariana Grande, but I couldn't tell you if I've ever heard any of her songs.
What recent pop music I get exposed to these days is limited to whatever garbage the radio toots at me in the morning. I rarely know what song I'm listening to, I just know that one Justin Bieber song sounds like echoes of vomiting in slow motion and makes me angry.

Oh shit, I knew of an Ariana Grande song and didn't even know. I knew it as more of a Mario Paint song. It is a doog song.

Wow, she was one of those characters in a Nick Sitcom......no wonder why she looked familiar. The only Nick Sitcoms I enjoyed were 'Drake & Josh' and 'iCarley'. Honestly never listened to her music outside of looking her up after seeing this announcement. Personally don't like pop music much but she has a nice voice.
Her sprites for the game look fantastic through and match the Final Fantasy style I think, so even if her inclusion is a bit strange, at least she matches the rest of the cast. She also helped out with a vocal track for FFXV as well, so I guess this was when the idea for her to appear in this game originated.

I'm not hating, I've seen Kendrick live a few times and enjoy his work.
But his last album did nothing for me, at all. I can still be a fan of a musician and not have to feel like everything they do is amazing. I notice this is a trend with certain artists here on GAF though, it's like people can't dislike Kendrick or any of his albums. lol

Ehh, I think calling her a singer's debatable. Well, back then at least. I don't know her from her Nickelodeon days but her first big album was shit vocally. She, to me, was definitely a professional singer before she was an actual singer. The powers that be had already decided tha she was going to be a popstar before she herself was able. That said, she put the work in and fits in with her peers now.
That said, singing's one of those weird areas to me because culturally the expectations are so different now. I think before this era and autotune you had lots of people with "bad" voices who still could sing, in that I mean their voices were rough but they were hitting the notes and you could understand them, Ariana at the start was incoherent at best but could hit notes something many of us could do while playing Karaoke Revolution if we wanted to, but people liked them imperfection and all. Now shit's different, autotune's king and everything's polished and people don't really listen to the genuine real voice anymore and I wonder if they'd even like their favorite artists real voices. Which is something I think about when people think musicians are immune from being taken over by software, I just think to how we're like three quarters there already, everything already sounds synthetic, literally the only thing left human with modern pop music is the artists' image and I guess physical showmanship. I wonder how long even that will matter.
But again, I think Ariana's improved a lot better than when she started, as much as I'm tired of hearing "Side to Side" I can understand it, which is waaaaay better than her previous efforts, and she sounds good like she always did so it's no longer like she has no "right" to be a pop start or anything like that.

That's fine. Mariah Carey was at the height of her career through the 90's, you might not have been aware of her then. There are things in the early part of the 90's that even passed me by having been born in 1987.
Definitely an American and didn't know who she was. I don't listen to the radio and don't watch TV. I only found out who Drake was last year and only because I saw him on some late show. Never heard one of her songs, either.

I'm just saying, you were curious about who she is, which indicates at least some interest. You could have saved yourself a lot of snark and trouble by just Googling it. You don't live in the US, so I guess it's not a big deal if you don't know her, but like, I'll never understand why people would purposely put themselves out there like that, especially when you can tell that people expect you to know who that person is. I can definitely stand behind the facet that is people trying to lower people's interest when it comes to mainstream matters. As if everything is worthless and just a distraction for stupid people to escape from their miserable lives.
Now if was so more power to them for actually finding something that makes them feel better without hurting themselves.

Beautiful eyes I think this is just a interest thing. For example, YouTube only recommends game videos, opera, classical music, game music and comic stuff for me when I stay logged in.
This was such an example of me not knowing Eminem until Slim shady. Up to then he was just a person that a friend harped on about. After that I kinda spent many years just travelling Africa, ME and south America for work so yeah I missed everything of Eminem and knew nothing else than SS.

The average person is more likely to know who Ariana Grande is. GAF is a community of gamers so everyone here knows who Miyamoto is, but the average person probably doesn't.
