is there any way to record gameplay video of ARMA 3 Alpha in Steam?

Download fraps and record to a separate hard drive?

Where do I begin if I want to start modding Arma 3? I wanna make a new island.

FRAPS is terrible for recording, at least suggest him Dxtory :p

And if you want to start doing real modding, you need this http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BI_Tools_2 Right now there's no specific tools for A3 but all the mods are cross-game compatible, easy to convert. So no fancy A3 modding shenanigans until they release the A3 tools.

Well I'm very happy.

The movement is so responsive compared to arma 2 and the revised control scheme is good.
Weapons don't feel like softair guns anymore.

Played multiplayer, Blitzkrieg (hold mode), yesterday for a couple of hours. I had fun.
There is an issue with the spawn points, too easy to camp the spawn area and instakill anything that appear in it. I alone killed like 8 people in a row like this and died only because I kept moving (instead of staying still hidden in a bush; I wanted for the just-spawned players to have a chance to see me and kill me, before getting killed).
When one of ours spawn points got surrounded (a jeep too was camping from afar), getting out of it alive was difficult, you needed to run as soon as you appeared and, with a not insignificant dose of luck, you'd be safe.

Cool thanks, had no idea where to begin. Arma 3 looks like it might be the game to get me back into modding, finally.

There is no better feeling in the world than a squad riding around on the side's of a little bird looking down at the world below you as you come into a hot LZ and proceed to waste every mother fucker there.

Would someone want to play with a complete Arma noob when I'll get home?
Europe, after 1600. Send a PM and I'll send my steam name back.
I don;t have a mic, so I would listen and do as told. Welp.

Sethos, is there a good and light program to show FPS in games?

Edit: I've been using FRAPS, but I am under the mpression it's a hog.

FRAPS is fine as long as you aren't recording, the second you hit that record button it becomes one of the worst pieces of recording software out there.

I guess it's better to let BIS know how important for community to have such a feature in game since we're alpha-testing the game. I don't really wont this thing to be soft-pedaled because "ojoj this is difficult".

swap weapons on the move?

on what level do you want to be able to swap weapons on the move?

this is not quake

maybe you should be able to swap some weapons if you change pace into slow walk or controlled march but not while running

SThud is coming soon :)

Should have the #ShackTac Fireteam HUD released for #Arma3 on Thursday.

We've used it in a few missions while testing and I forgot how much I missed something as simple as SThud.

Silly comment. Being able to swap a weapon on the move has nothing to do with 'quake', being able to quick draw a pistol on the move is extremely common in combat situations. I've already experienced running low on ammunition while being chased around a small village, then having to stop dead in my tracks like a tosser to pull out my sidearm which almost killed me.

Switching weapons on the run is very easy for soldiers to do especially with modern slings and holsters.

I really have to commend the kickstarter-esque approach in which we can buy early access to the game for what will likely be a cheaper price than the full release. They were already going to release it at probably 50USD but now we can sort of give them some money and get upgraded with every iteration up until the final release (which we then go through the standard post release support).

More games should do this. I wish GT5p worked this way but with the nature of PS3, I don't think many would want to be locked down and may want to resell their physical copies but on PC where we mostly use DD, it's perfect.

I'm really enjoying the game even in it's Alpha state.

Hope you do. Modding Arma really isn't that difficult and one of the great parts is how modular things are. So you can work harder on the feel of your level and sometimes use other scripts and so forth from the community. My team has a good number of moded levels out there and the curve is a scale of maybe a 5-6 on a 1-10 scale. Some scripting trial and error, some weirdness with their use of the language but the editor is actually highly powerful.

With nothing more than radius of appearance, chance of appearance, a waypoint or 2, and choosing units you can easily make a single level that never ever plays the same. It is pretty crazy.

An answer to this determines whether I buy ARMA 3 or not: Did they improve the robot voices?

Arma 2 was laughably bad: "ENEMY. MAN! spotted... two HUNDRED fifty. Meters north EAST."

It's really jarring and I couldn't stomach playing more than an hour of the Arma 2 beta because of it.

The voices still are robotic at times but they are much much better sounding now and less disjointed. The voice flow while sounding unnatural at least flows better.

Sethos, do you play with the ShackTac group? They seem like one of the best groups to join up with, but I don't really know what their community/culture is like.

Yes. Just watch any of the infantry showcase vids on Youtube and you can hear it. MUCH improved.

No but I would love to. I had a Danish group where we played a lot like that some years ago, now I'm looking for something new or starting my own in Europe.

GafTac? I will be playing this game for the next forseeable 3 years. I know that there is a group of us that play a ton of Arma. We could work on tactics and maneuvering. I have a Gaf mumble that I created a year or so ago for Arma too.

Here are some with a playable 60FPS even though some of the LOD settings were turned down.

Pity that it isn't quite optimized yet for using all my CPU cores of both GPU's.

Where are you located?

Also, probably need to look into Teamspeak as that's what ACRE develops for. ACRE is a must.
