I do not think so. SHIELD embraces some humor while Arrow really only delivers that once Ollie starts doing weird stuff and trying to explain them to Felicity. So 3+ episodes in.
On Pilot vs Pilot comparison, SHIELD is the clear winner. Arrow needed a few episodes (and then some) to get into the awesome shape it is, but SHIELD just started.
Besides, Marvel > DC is ALWAYS the answer

i don't really see the marvel show having anything as awesome and entertaining as the island stuff.
we'll see though. i won't be watching next week's but i'll check it out sporadically to see if there's decent action at least. and those scottish scientists. they're great.

You don't need humor to be a good show, to be honest. I haven't watched SHIELD yet but Arrow's pilot was pretty damn good and gives you a very good impression of what the show will be about (it does get more awesome with the Island flashbacks though later on).
You do not *need* it per se, but it helps to treat SHIELD as a completely different type of show compared to Arrow. As weird as it sounds, they are not directly comparable, because of differences like this. The tone is different.

Also..no..even Arrow pilot was good. Shield's pilot on the other hand was pretty damn bad. I still hold hope that it will find it's footing, but for now it's very dissapointing.
I agree with that. I think Marvel is going down the comic relief route now with Whedon in charge (they conveniently forgot about that tone in Incredible Hulk and Captain America or even IM2 but that was simply because that movie was shit) which is good as it gives us a clear distinction between DC properties and Marvel ones.
Humor or no, Arrow's pilot was far more intriguing than Shield's. Shield was just...bland. It was funny in spots, but that's all it had. The rest of the season could blow it up, but on a pilot vs pilot basis, Arrow was better.
(It'd be nice to avoid having a tired Marvel vs DC debate, but I suppose it was inevitable.)

I haven't seen SHIELD yet, but I definitely agree about Arrow. I thought it was ok-ish untill Deathstroke made his appearance, then it grabbed my attention, and it got even better when he met Slade.

We get sad about Amell's abs, but our penises get collectively excited at Felicity, and Shado, and sometimes Thea, and occasinally Laurel, but not cause she's Laurel but cause she's Katie Cassidy.
Well, okay, some of Arrow-GAF does get excited about Amell. I won't begrudge them that. Amell's a fine looking dude. Arrow-GAF has a wide range of tastes.

Yeah I knew 'Deathstroke' was earlier, just thought Slade had appeared more.
guess thats a good thing though to have a supporting character show up that late, be the favorite part of the show and feel like he was there all along.

One of the quotes from the writers was something along the lines of "The flashbacks in season 1 were based on the question 'what happened to Oliver on the island?' while season 2's flashbacks are 'what happened to Slade on the island?'" , so we should be getting some series Deathstroke screen time this season.

While Whedon definitely helps cement the lighter tone in the Marvel movies, I think the actual determining factor in going down a path with a sense of humor was Robert Downey Jr's performance in Iron Man.
