You know, I was thinking...

What if they tried to link the still-in-gestation Amazon project with Arrow and Flash? I mean, Flash we can sort of fanwank it as fitting into Arrow's grounded world, since he is a freak of nature that got his powers accidentally. His villains are supposedly heavily tech-based, so we don't need to go too crazy with superpowers. So with a little bit of bending, Flash can fit into Arrow's world.

But Wonder Woman, man... how the fuck do we do that?

Plus... Flash has to be careful not to fall into the pitfall of freak of the week villains. Arrow does a pretty great job of having one overarching story, peppering it with one-offs and recurring villains, and still dealing with everyone's own personal dramas. But the overarching storyline remains core, the pacing is fantastic. I really hope that Flash can maintain that level of story-telling quality.

I've never cared for that embargo either. Gotham Central would be awesome :(

The original project name of the show that eventually became Smallville was Bruce Wayne. That's how much the embargoes changed things.

When Superman Returns was in production, there was an embargo against having Lois and Clark (already established characters on the show) become romantically involved, because they deemed that "movie territory"

Different villains went on and off the availability list depending on what Superman movie scripts were circling around at Warner.

Ultimately, the major characters who were never allowed to show up were Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, as well as their supporting casts and rogues galleries. Attempts were made to sneak an undercover Bruce Wayne into the show, but they were quickly squashed.

All of this sounds fucking stupid.

All the more reason not to hook Arrow into the cinematic DCU. The arbitrary mandates from corporate would be ludicrous. Let flash and arrow remain completely separate from the DCU.

Bruce Wayne show would have been great.

Maybe Arrow and Flash will become the Batman/Superman friendship of the television DCU.

No- this wasn't due to tie-ins with these other properties.

This was due to the mere existence of these other projects, many of them only in theoretical form. Basically, Warner/DC only allowed 1 live action and 1 animated version of each character (Batman was allowed 2 animated versions, since The Batman and JLU overlapped, but none of his allies or villains could appear in JLU) because they believed the existence of a character in multiple projects would confuse audiences.

So, for example, Green Arrow and Batman have a lot of villain overlap, especially in regards to the League of Shadows/Assassins. If the embargo system was still active, Arrow would not be allowed to touch any of those characters if a movie or TV show featuring Batman were in the works. Whether Arrow hooked in or not, the fact that there are other DC movies and shows would limit the choices the Arrow writers were allowed to make. That's how the embargoes worked.

To take the thread in a slightly more sane direction, here's some episode 2.05 spoilers:

It's titled "The Demon's Head," which from what I gather from comic people is a Ra's al Ghul reference? The episode is about:

"It will feature a character called Awwal who is a Dark Archer, trained by Merlyn. He is after Lisa."

Lisa is the casting name for Sarah/Black Canary. There's a decent chance "Awwal" isn't that character's name either.

I wonder how much DC gives a shit about the bat embargo at this point when there probably won't be a solo Batman movie for a while. Then again, I don't really get the point of it in the first place.

The writers said in an interview that they are dying to use Nightwing but can't because of "legal reasons" :(. Probably still in full effect, but maybe some characters are allowed in on a case by case basis.

Pirates on the island? Okaaaaay. I realize that they are probably not like Jack Sparrow, but all I can picture is Jack Sparrow like pirates.

Think Somali pirates.

Hopefully the Flash series turns out well. His group of villains shoudl work well for TV. Low power levels, they all have unique personalities and they have interesting relationships with Flash.

Aren't they armed to the teeth now though? Guns, Ammo, etc.

I was expecting, something more along the lines of Ollie undergoing extreme training and the like. Pirates seems...ehhhh.

Doesn't mean Ollie won't undergo training or get better at doing the whole survival badass thing. Just means somewhere along the line there will be pirates. How, when, why they factor in, who knows? The show has been pretty damn good at linking exactly where Ollie learned his techniques/skills with precise flashbacks, I think (HOPE) that will continue.

I mean shit though, if Ollie was lost for 5 years some crazy shit had to have gone down outside of "training in the hyperbolic time chamber for 4 years." I'm sure he'd want to immediately come home, but at every turn, something gets in his way.

Huh. Gotcha. So is this embargo still in effect? I guess not with Flash appearing both on TV and a film project planned for him.

Well, it depends on how evil these pirates are. A more chaotic villain versus the more organized Fyers.

Echoes of the Odyssey.

Good points and I agree with most of them, I just hope it doesn't descend into something where every season he's facing more and more ridiculous enemies on the Island.

Hmm, I could get behind them if they are considerably more chaotic and unpredictable.

Well, we know at some point on his stay on the Island he has to hook up with the Russian mafia.

Series should end in a three way between Ollie, Felicity, and Malcolm. So much sexual tension finally released.

but who pegs who?

Pirates? Tiger Shark, please.

you mean King Shark. or the Shark a Green Lanetrn Villain. or the great White Shark, Batman villain. all three very different very interesting in their own ways.

the Shark

and Great White Shark. they can use this one as he is a street level Batman villain and not actually a super-powered villain.

Tiger Shark would be more interesting, since he smuggles endangered species and stuff.

My mind is kinda blown. Either Thea's actress got some dental work done, or she's a good actress doing some weird unique speaking style with Thea.

Here's an interview with her and she barely sounds like Thea. No hint of a slur at all. None. And her voice is deeper too.

And she looks pretty gorgeous there. Dunno how they make her look so boring in the show.

She's a master thespian.

And always gorgeous. They just dull Thea on the show so you aren't blinded by her beauty and end up not paying attention to the plot.

Willa Holland sounds like Adult Thea. If you age Thea five years, you'd expect someone like Willa Holland. Little bit more height, more adult voice and a more mature beauty.

Hmm I wonder if Ra's will be the leader. Seeing as the episode was once known as the demon head that implies that he'll probably be there. However I have the feeling they're going with a woman leading them in this show. Maybe the mysterious woman we saw during the island flashback.

Yao Fei is revived as Ras because Asians.

I hope not.

I bet they'll go with this character:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensei_(DC_Comics)

Yao Fei is revived as Ras because Asians.

Oliver Queen: You're not Ra's al Ghul. I watched him die.
Yao Fei: But is Ra's al Ghul immortal? Are his methods supernatural?
Oliver Queen: Or cheap parlor tricks to conceal your true identity, "Ra's"?
Yao Fei: Surely, a man who spends his nights scrambling over the rooftops of Starling City wouldn't begrudge me dual identities?
Oliver Queen: I tried to save your life.
Yao Fei: I warned you about being a hero, Oliver.

The kicker is, he starts talking in a crisp British accent.

Oh man, what if Black Canary is as lame as the Huntress was... I remember how much hype there was for her too.

Laurel-Canary will be lame as fuck. Especially when you know they'll inevitably kill off OG Black Canary who will probably be awesome as fuck (and a lunatic). But Caity Lotz will play her so I can forgive all transgressions CAUSE GODDAMN IS SHE GORGEOUS.

I'd post photos but they might be NSFW.

I liked Huntress till she mass-murdered a bunch of cops. Then again... crazy in the head, crazy in bed.

I get the feeling that they are trying to allude to Ras without actually using Ras. Skirting dat embargo.

I don't have to picture it... she had a recent photoshoot that was... very revealing in that area. And while I can certainly... appreciate that... Laurel is a black hole of suck.
