I feel like moving some units at reduced cost is better than moving no units at standard price.

Nah, the product is dead. Any price changes would have had an impact 4 years ago. By now the product cycle has concluded and almost nobody is buying it. So why diminish the little profit you might get from those who still want the damn thing? ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯

I know the Switch will be a benefit for me living in China. It's region free, and also portable. I would be the biggest douchebag on the train playing Zelda with the volume turned to max.

I haven't been able to say this for a bit, but thank you to those who suggesting films to see about interment camps.

Has anyone here watched the 1996 TVB version of Journey to the West? I was recently rewatching it since I haven't watched Hong Kong dramas in a long time, and holy shit I forgot how stupid and funny it was. Dicky Cheung makes the show.

Dicky Cheung was a godly Comedian.

After that watch his "Fang Shiyu" and "Duke of Mount Deer" series.

Why do you need the preschool to be academic? You don't trust elementary schools?

Haha...I know, it sounds bonkers right? My girl is bit advanced for her age and I want her to not be held back by other kids. If she was developing the same as the other kids, then it wouldn't really bother me. I trust school systems enough to make sure she isn't illiterate, but I don't trust it to recognize or have the resources for more individualized attention if needed for cases like hers. I'm not saying that she's a genius or child prodigy, but that she could use more nurturing.

I wouldn't be terribly concerned about an academically rigorous preschool. If she's learning at a faster pace, see if she can skip a grade of elementary school (if possible), or make sure she's in the lower part of a split-grade class while doing assignments from the higher grade.

As for culture and language, try to always speak Cantonese at home so she learns both languages. Maybe enroll her in Chinese classes after-school?

I keep forgetting that this exists. Hello all once again.

dohdough, are you or your wife able to dedicate some time to guide her academically? I'm just drawing on my own experiences growing up in a decently mixed-ethnicity city (at least until 2nd grade), but being able to recognize that diversity is welcome and not something to be looked down upon is something that I wish was more reinforced. Not to mention being able to pick up another language early.

Not that I'm basing this off any expert research or analysis, but if you're able to dedicate time, I think you'll be able to bridge whatever gap academically. Just going purely off my own personal experience, my parents were a bigger driver in my learning than school, especially during preschool. As I grew older, it was really the resources that were provided to me (edutainment games, books, etc.) as well as the constant reinforcement by my parents that academics and hard work was a gift that really propelled me for the rest of my life.

I have no idea where you live, but at least in the suburbs of Chicago in a "great" school system, you probably won't touch things that will start challenging her until maybe 4th/5th grade. I've heard that things are mad different/more rigorous out in Cali, so obviously ymmv. Even taking that into account though, my personal opinion is that parental guidance on academics is going to be more important, especially at younger ages.

I very barely qualify for this thread, but congrats on 10k!

Uh, so is Jungle Asian as a term going to be a thing thanks to Ali Wong? I heard it for the first time IRL and it took me while to not audibly gasp.

~~

For those on the fence about For Honour. I can't disclose much, but this isn't a bad game if you wanna 1v1.

"Jungle Asian" seems pretty damn derogatory to me.

Which means it will probably end up getting used in weeknight network sitcoms within the year.

There are some self-deprecating jokes that are not worth the blatant side-effect of creating a new slur.

FWIW, that whole stand-up wasn't very funny anyway.

If you are a human being, you qualify. :p (if you aren't, we are kidnapping you and selling you to the highest bidders because you're a non-human who is communicating on a forum).

Never heard of Jungle Asian, and no good can come of something named that, methinks.

According to BuzzFeed, 1/8 drop doesn't count! (I get mistaken for being (half)Asian often enough to have immigration officers speak Japanese to me).

I think I barely qualify because I don't get looks in Asia. So disappointing. I also don't get congratulated for being good with chop sticks :'(

It's a stupid skit Ali Wong did on her Netflix special or something.

Now there's regular Asian YouTubers talking about it.

Lunar New Year gift ideas. Go!

I'm considering a box of assorted fancy teas for this girl I am seeing but I'd like to hear other suggestions.

Also, hello to the people who I never knew were Asian! Like Lone_Prodigy.

I like Dicky Cheung but the thing with Jin Yong's novels ( Duke Mount in this case ) is it's usually a male power fantasy. MC has like 7 wives each with different personalities and two of them are actual sisters.

It's really hard to get immense with the story when you constantly felt that the women are constructed to a man's ideal.

I never knew you were Asian either. *fistbump*

I find that most New Year gifts are seasonal like Christmas: they're nice, but you display them once a year and then they go into storage. Maybe something they can keep year-round like a lantern (hang it by the window), or a giant Chinese gold nugget (perfect for the coffee table).

Ironically nowadays I think the most popular stuff involves a bunch of hot guys fighting for one girl (female fantasy) instead of the old stuff.

Probably because the viewing audience is more female?

Yeah, I'm not gonna freak out about it being used in a joke, but I definitely don't think it should become an actual thing.

It's YouTubers trying to be controversial and are taking it seriously.

Still, shocked to hear it in the UK. I wonder if the girl who used it even saw the skit.

~~

As for that skit being good. I laughed too, but she's no Hannibal Buress (who I think had a special around the same time).

I got dat Nioh Last Trial preloaded. Can't wait to get destroyed and then learn how to cheese a boss and the enemies.

Also, is it weird that I DON'T enjoy strip clubs? I went with some friends for a bachelor party some months ago and I was just at the bar drinking.
