Ass Creed: Brotherhood - Multiplayer Beta Out Now

Whoa, there are some very well presented but ultimately very bad gameplay ideas on that forum. Hopefully Ubisoft carefully considers which advice to follow. :lol

are there anymore freebie codes to give out??? really want to play this after watching the Giantbomb QL, never thought multiplayer in AC could work so well.

That was awesome. It almost felt like you were Batman or something from way they were talking about you. :lol

Oh, and you can mute players, but you have to do it once the game has already started. You go Start --> Abstergo Agents --> press X on anyone you want to mute. There's no way to universally mute all players though, so if new people join that you want to mute you have to go back to the pause menu.

well... plug in an USB headset, set PS3 voice chat output to USB headset, leave USB headset on the ground far away from you.

There is a mute option in settings. You have to wait until the match starts then it's under options and abstergo agents. I just mute everyone. The only thing that sucks is you have to do that everytime someone new joins.

edit: dang beaten by a long shot.

I didn't know you could counter stuns. How on earth do you do that?

I'm not sure exactly, but as far as I can tell, you just have to hit square right as they are trying to punch you. Basically, if you're trying to kill them at the same time they're trying to stun you, you as the pursuer will win. Which is really how it should be.

Someone on the beta forums suggested making a "targeted stun" that has a very high chance to work compare to a regular one. The idea was that you'd have to lock onto the character you suspect is your pursuer, and if you're right then your stun will be more reliable. He also suggested that this would alleviate some of the run'n'kill gameplay, since if someone was very obviously coming for you, if you saw it in time, you'd get an easy lock and a better chance to stun them. And in the other case if they are being stealthy you'd have a very hard time finding them before they kill you.

I dunno if I'd want this. I think stun is fine as it is: it's obviously unreliable, but it really shouldn't be in the first place! It's basically just good way to reward players for throwing a smart smoke bomb, and for (sometimes) punching out pursuers who can't decide which of you or the clones your standing among to kill.

(As an aside, I see a ton of people complaining about the gun on the beta forums as well, and even hear people talk about it in-game sometimes. I don't understand this. It only gives you 100 points. It's cooldown is significantly long. Someone show me where the imbalance is.)

Anybody have any idea why the hell is it constantly freezing for me? I mean: i've downloaded it yesterday and I've had a grand total of 0 minutes playtime. When i'm connected to the internet (and why the hell wouldn't i be, seeing that its a multiplayer beta) i can not even reach the main menu, it freezes instantly. Not just the game, but the whole PS3. If i disconnect my ethernet cable, i can reach the main menu but as soon as i connect to the net, the beta wants to patch itself - and after i click ok, my whole system freezes. Again.

I've tried rebooting for like 60 times, tried various ideas (DMZ, connecting the cable at various times), but nothing helps.

Any solution...?

Official forums are not helping at all, its a ghost town when it comes to official representation.

Is this still for preorders or are they giving away keys online yet?

From what I've played (Level 18), I have to say that it has been a pretty enjoyable multiplayer mode so far. There's just something about this cat-and-mouse style game that appeals to me, though there's still room for improvements. I can't wait to see what the full multiplayer mode will be like, with more maps and characters.

As for those improvements, some of these are probably just beta quirks:
- Allow us to mute users during the waiting period. Nothing is more annoying than getting stuck at a waiting screen with users who love to hear themselves on the mic. Better yet, allow us to disable all voice chat or limit it (input and output) to friends during the Wanted mode, since that is just a deathmatch where unsolicited voice chat is more annoying than useful.
- Lock-on could use some work, since there have been a number of times where I am unable to lock-on to my intended target, particularly when I'm standing in a crowd, it just targets the NPC in front of me instead of where I have the crosshairs pointed.
- Likely just a beta quirk, but it would be nice to have a map rotation in place, rather than playing the same map over and over again until quitting.
- Of course, bugs, since there have been quite a few freezes and hang-ups, mostly during the waiting/loading screens. The only repeated hang-up place I've noticed is when I choose the Play Now option, then cancel the process before a game is found, it just goes into a load screen instead of going back to the menu.

So I've found that if your pursuer cancels their contract on you, it usually takes a little while for someone else to get assigned to you. This means when you're getting high up in the ranks (3rd-1st), you can go on the defensive while you have 2-3 people after you and not worry about your target for now (unless he wanders into your area). If you can lure them into killing the wrong guy and/or stun them without getting assassinated, you'll have free reign on your assigned target once all of their contracts get canceled. This makes it way easier to set up incognito kills because you don't have to worry about pursuers for a little while.

Interesting thing about canceled contracts is that they don't seem to go away for as long if your pursuer merely gets killed. I wonder if his killer gets assigned your pursuer's original target (which is you) to keep up the pressure on those in high ranks? I'd love to see a match overview timeline with access to everyone's contracts. :3

Anyone know why this isn't on the (UK) PS+ store at the moment?

I just went to pay my £11.99 for 3 months and thought I'd double check it was definitely there. It wasn't.

When I go into What's New it shows as one of the featured PS+ items but when you click it it just takes you to the front of the PS+ store...

Indeed, the balancing features are things that, despite being under the hood, can make or break this type of multiplayer. And certainly, they did a good job with the balancing, as you usually spawn at a distance away from your pursuer, more pursuers are added as you rise through the ranks, the kill/loss streak bonuses, and as you pointed out, you get some breathing room as a reward for outwitting your pursuer(s).

Good points.

I'd also like to add the ability to see the score of the previous game during; character selection and loading the next map. You have to be fast to reselect your character, but then you don't get to see the previous game scores. Or it would be nice to have the game store all your sessions so you can see your scores since you started.

But it's a European developed game and for some reason they don't like statistics...

Heh, I was hooked once I saw the Giant Bomb QL too. I immediately went out and preordered the damn thing for the beta key. So worth it :D

I played the beta for an hour or so yesterday. The 1st game was absolutely horrible, maybe because it was my 1st game or because the people I was playing with were annoying.

After that I was grouped with some players and it was a blast, myself and the same players kept playing for 4 other rounds. It was really fun.

Overall. It’s way better than I thought it would be. I thought that I would try it a few times only but now I’m looking forward to playing more :)

One thing I hated is the fact that someone can kill me while I’m in the killing sequence. I can’t move and I can’t do shit, it’s not fair. At least give me a few seconds so I can take back the controls of my character and do something about it.

I can't get the stun counter to work >_< I clearly see the button above their heads, and I press the circle button, yet I die anyway :(

Yeah they definitely need to work on that. It's very hit or miss but I've gotten it to work a couple of times. It'd be a really cool concept if it worked better.

Got to try out the beta over the weekend. Very fun to play, I like blending in with my look alikes and seeing my pursuer killing the wrong guy:lol

One round I was on top of a roof with a nice view all around so I can see if any climbing the roof. I know they're after me when that happen, this monk climbs the roof and act like he's looking around too lol. I'm waiting there until he comes over and I tried to stun but got countered :(

There was this glitch I encountered, I was pursuing my target(I think it was a high profile so multiple assassin after same target) while target going up the stairs, at the top there was another assassin, looks like the other assassin got to her at the same time I got to him but I still got the jump kill animation(This is while the target is dead and sliding down the steps). So pretty much the jump kill camera is messed up focusing on the sliding body and next thing I know, I fall through the floor of the whole city and I can see the whole town while in constant falling animation. No luck to another assassin after me because they can't find me. Had to quit the match.

Some game problem, I'm sure everyone had. Game freezing ps3, game hang at loading screen when canceling lobby search.

I don't get how the stun works before you find your pursuer, I just mash circle. :lol

Overall, had some pretty fun experience. :D

At level 20, you get the Poison ability, which allows you to kill your target in low-profile mode without doing the whole assassination animation. Too bad it doesn't make them go nuts like in the single-player though. :lol

AFAIK, the beta was a Gamestop pre-order exclusive in the U.S.; they ran out of codes a while back. If you want to get in right now I think the only way left is to subscribe to PS+.

:lol Best scenario I've had so far is I was being chased by 3 different people and they were all 3 together in a line behind me. I cut a quick corner and dove into the haystack and got to watch all 3 of them run right by me :lol

Sooo... what did this "patch" do? I was actually excited about it when they announced it on their FB account - DL'ed the 125mb patch - went in, nothing new. Ok let's find what it did. Joined a game 2 minutes into it. I could not get a target for about 2 minutes and then the game froze... yep seems like a European patch.

Just from my small group of observations I've always felt European (especially Ubisoft) go for "cheapest fix" over "what would benefit the game the most, but is not so costly?" fix that I see a lot of American developers do; Blizzard, Naughty Dog, Bungi, IW, Epic, ect.

It seems like European (Ubisoft) developers don't really like statistics and don't track much. In a game like Halo, COD ect. they track every little thing a person does and alter accordingly. And they give you the ability to track your own stats/progression. But when I play a European/Japanese multiplayer game; MGSO,LBP, AC:BH - it's always disjointed and it feels like nothing is tracked.

I just woke up and I'm going on a rant my brain can't follow. But my point is in there somewhere...

This patch may have been for the upcoming Alliance mode. According to UbiGabe's twitter feed, we're getting very close to the total number of ability uses (5 million) required to unlock it, a few days away. They may have released the patch so that all they need to do in a few days is just flip a switch to enable Alliance.

EDIT: When I originally posted this, I couldn't log on to PSN for some reason. Later, when I could log in again, I checked the News option, and all it said was that the patch was for the matchmaking. *shrug*

Do you mean Metal Gear Online (2)? MGO tracks everything.

:lol I've encountered that lag matrix, and one time I encountered another type of matrix, where the game begins, but the graphics don't change from the waiting area. Thus, I'm technically in the game level and can be killed and run into obstacles, but I still see the level as a empty white room with no characters walking around, forcing me to leave the session.

Recently I've been trying to get the "focus" kill bonus in Wanted... and have been unable to do it consistently! Unless my target has just been stunned, OR I happen upon him when he just started killing someone else (beginning of the animation), I usually just get stunned while waiting the 3 seconds even if I try and be fairly innocuous. I've gone for it a few times now in "ordinary" situations and almost always get punched out.

I could just be imagining things but I think it's because of the "circle" button icon which would appear above me when I'm really close, telling my pursuer that he can stun me. I'm not 100% sure, but I've noticed the prompt myself when walking up to a pursuer after, say, throwing a smoke bomb. This seems wrong! I understand reminding the player what to press, like the square button icon that appears when you're in range of a kill, but the circle prompt gives you away as a pursuer. Basically it lets targets press circle if they think their pursuer is close and is trying to get focus and/or poison them (I'm making an assumption here; I haven't unlocked poison) because they are picked out of the crowd already. Obviously if the pursuer is going for a regular kill - even incognito - this won't matter; but it makes trying anything fancy pretty tough. Although like I said, I'm not 100% the prompt is what's giving me away, but it's either the prompt or all of the targets I've tried this on are eagle eyes (not unlikely, I guess!).

Anyone had success getting the "focus" bonus without getting punched all the time? I'd like to hear how you do it.

I know this isn't about the beta but it is the most recent thread so here goes..

So, this game is kind of an Assassin's Creed 2.5 that just also happens to have a multi-player mode and not a wholly multi-player focused title? I'm starting to get the vibe that this will be much more "required" or "essential" as part of the overall story over the DS/PSP side games. Also, the achievement list was just released and it seems like only 1/5 or so of the achievements are multi-player focused, the rest are typical story mode stuff.

Thoughts? Amazon is offering $15 credit for a pre-order and I'm close to pulling the trigger.

Full story mode that continues both Ezio and Desmonds stories, plus the inclusion of multiplayer mode so its basically AC3.

Me too :D

I too had worries when the game was first announced that it would be AC2.5 but from what Ubi have said and from playing the online beta im sure it will be just as good as AC2 was, if not better.

Not too long now till the game is out :D

Well, I think obviously AC3 will be a different beast (new period/new character) but Brotherhood seems more than a mediocre interquel.

Well i see what you mean, in the sense of a sequal would be with a different character/setting ect but from what they have said the main campeign will be at least 12-15 hours long (IIRC) plus Rome is bigger than all of the locations in AC2 put together so it isnt just a quick cash in.

Plus of course Ubi themselves have said this is AC3 in all but name :D

Ok...I'm still not sure how to stop/counter a pursuer. I get locked into a animation sequence, obviously can't do anything in this situation(?), is it special type of "assassination"? Or is there a way to avoid it? How do you stun a pursuer? Why didn't they include this type of information in the tutorial!?

I usually try to outrun my pursuer(s), 50/50 chance of escape in my case.
