Assassins' Creed Shadows New Trailer Released

Implementation is all about polish IMO.

Ubi does not polish its games like Sony/Nintendo, both of which happen to be platform holder and use their games to sell systems. Visuals are paramount to be able to do that.

easier to polish when you make smaller games.

Ubisoft is a victim of their own push for 80 hour games with massive open worlds. And they push them out in a few years.

Old ac titles had very short development times i think, ubi was even criticized for releasing an ac game per year so they took 2 years for origins unless my memory is completely fucked up, and they had great animations in their old ac games...(Amd the teams\budgets were probably way smaller).

Yeah just checked, from 2009 to 2015 they released like one gamer per year, and it's not like ac games are small games to make, they are huge open worlds.
Check this out.

This is one of my two worries with the game, the animations and animation blending. The last AC game they released looked like it had the same issue.

-Climbing animation begins
-Player must wait until the animation finishes at a select point to parkour
-Parkour animation begins
-You are locked to that specific parkour speed and your character can only interact with selected points to parkour

It reminds me of some of the worse older AC titles. You know, the ones that control very stiff even though they're trying to be presented as free-flowing and exciting.

My second worry is the open world design, but honestly I have kind of given up on that with AC.

They released 30 seconds or parkour gameplay a month ago and it is literally

- animation
- wait for animation to end
- see it lock in next animation sequence

You can see the character model transition from one to the next, there's sometimes a micro-pause in between. It looks so weird.

True, that was when they had one more team to cycle those developments, to my memory it didn't take one year to make, merely that they had a rotation of teams, but even that cycle was a pretty rapid one for the type of game they were making.

but after AC Unity, that frantic type development took a toll and they were correct to remove one team and make that development a bit longer to maintain a level of quality.

Even as a massive Sony fan, I don't think Sony has a team that has ever even put out a game as massive or as complex as some of the ones Ubisoft have put out, so O Ozriel is correct, its easier in comparison to polish smaller games that are more controlled

Check this out.

They put out some massive titles, I think with have complex gaming has become, with Unity it just caught up with them (semi OT, I hope we get a remake of that in the new engine)

i like the choice they made in Valhalla to have England, France, Norway and Scotland

I think with AC Hexe, its likely they may have many countries as I think the on going rumor is that its in Germany or something.

I understand their games are big, but there is no excuse in 2024 for some of the shit i saw in outlaws, other devs make big ass game with much more polish and better animations, nobody force them to make their game so bloated, they could still make big ass game and trim some of the fat, valhaloa was particularly disgusting bloat wise, and you really saw much of the game mechanics after 10-15 hours.

Well at least they are far better than bethesda :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I just drank half a litre of red bull and that video still almost put me to sleep. I think I'll start watching it before going to sleep.

I think this is new footage, albeit short

Its always about budget and time.

Developers keep moving between these companies. They all have access to same pool of talent.
This is why I don’t mind when developers re-use animations, especially if they managed to have really good animations in a previous game.

Like would people really be that upset if AC protagonists after Unity moved more like Arno? I sure as hell wouldn’t because I know that gameplay has a higher chance to feel amazingly smooth.

If there's one thing I didn't enjoy with Ghost of Tsushima and RDR2 is that they didn't have seasonal shifts. To me when a game has that(and not just climate differences between areas) I become super immersed and enjoy it like heck. There's nothing like seeing leaves shift color or the first snow. Those are some of my favourite things about Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon(GBA).

Not a game I’d be willing to buy at full price. Will be another $17.99 one month Ubisoft+ “rental” for me, just like Outlaws.

I used to pay that much for one game a month via GameFly so it’s basically the same thing without the wait for disks in the mail.

The changing seasons look cool. Do we know how it works? If I stand around long enough I'll see snowfall and the ground getting whiter and whiter?

I'm usually all for the "ubisoft bloat copy-paste" formula hate, and I've thrown some of that out there with this game, but I can't doubt that a lot of what they've shown is a huge step up for this series. The stealth mechanics (shadow system in particular), the day/night and seasonal shift systems, and the combat with the environmental destructibility all look amazing. All you need to do to make this the best AC yet is a good story and solid enemy AI. Just nail that, and I promise I will stow the "waaaah ubisoft is trash" stuff until at least the next Far Cry.

I get where you are coming from. It's cool shit and I appreciate AC Shadows having a go at it. They are dynamic seasons, meaning that we could be playing the same mission but mine could take place in the summer while yours could take place in winter. And for instance, during winter you cannot dive in the water. Certain things like animations (especially the facial ones) and the writing I'm still very miffed about, but credit where credit is due.

Different teams, different engines...It's like saying that TLOU and Concord were made by the same team.

it all looks lovely. but i'm still left asking why in the hell did they have to include a samurai in a game in a series about assassins?...
