Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Official Evie Gamescom Demo

The fact that "black box missions" - which are ersatz husks of the open ended missions Hitman has been providing for over a decade - were the best thing in Unity speaks volumes.

Adore the setting, but wish it came around Brotherhood's peak. I just don't think I can stomach another one.

He wrote Brotherhood story and people loved it.

His other credits far outweigh whatever goodwill he may have bought from that. I don't know how much he was involved on Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but that game is legendary in my mind for its awful writing. Far Cry 3 was an absolute disaster that skated by completely on the exceptional acting abilities of Michael Mando. His most recent work, Child of Light, is most highly criticized for its rhyming and writing structure.

The guy is bad news and I'm instantly wary of anything I see associated with his name. That he did something cool in a continuation of a storyline with someone else's established characters and setting doesn't hold a lot of weight with me, in the midst of everything else.

After seeing Metal Gear Solid V footage.., the stealth here seems like a poor joke. I mean I really wished they would return back to the AC1 roots where combat was hard and you were always at a disadvantage so it was better to freaking stealth and get info on your targets

I seriously disagree with the relationship in Unity feeling forced. They successfully avoided damsel in distress, badass female, and the too perfect tropes which plague video game romance plots.
I thought the romance was terribly bland... it wasn't forced, but it simply wasn't interesting.
Ending spoiler:
In fact, seems even Arno didn't care about Elise too much when in the end, he couldn't even remember to shoot the guy from a distance with the gun or the phantom blade, weapons he's been using for the whole game. Her death scene was laughable.

You actually can attempt to shoot Germain with the phantom blade or pistol during the end segment where you're running at Germain and Elise before the sword explodes, neither work, the energy from the sword of eden blocks it. :(

EDIT:Fixed the link in the OP.

The ridiculousness of that chameleon ability alone is enough to convince me not to get the game. Used to love the Animus idea when it was with Desmond but it's only making these games feel more artificial and fake. It really took me out of the game in Unity.

Remember like the disguise skill in Unity this is a completely unlock in Evie's skill tree. Things like knife master which increases the range, number, and damage of knives make much more sense.

That's a nice touch, actually. Didn't know that... still, the romance didn't work for me. I liked some of the opening scenes and that air balloon scene was nice, but overall it didn't grab me. Honestly, I think a happy ending would fit much better here.

Best showing of Assassin's Creed Syndicate so far, Good things are the return and bigger focus on ''Black Box Assassination'' and ''Evie''.

Yet the game still feels meeeh, especially how Evie is not the focus and will have less part to play than her brother Jacob, also a few things annoy me:

what's up with the whole putting the hood, then removing it, then putting it on, then removing it !!, Once I start an assassination mission the hood SHOULD stay on, I'm a freaking assassin.

Also Chameleon Skill, like we need to make the stealth easier !!, and that size of the HUD, sure you can remove all of it, but come on, WHY SO BIG !!

I was really excited for the reveal of Syndicate, but with every showing it leaves much to be desired, and this hurts with how London looks so cool and how Evie looks so badass.

This.

Also, this is the first AC I have zero interest in. Man, all that wasted potential. Series truely needs a breather. It's a shame they're willing to sacrifice the quality of the series in order to get one out every year.

I know it sells upwards of 8 million copies every title and it makes sense purely in a business-kinda way. I get it, it's the one thing to do to keep money coming in to fund other projects. But as someone who truly loves this medium, all I see is a short-term way to get money quickly while siphoning out the last remaining enjoyment out of a series that was once one of the pioneers of open-world games.

That was awesome looking. I love that they are sticking with the more open mission structure. The chameleon thing is a little weird, but I like it as it adds to the stealth aspect and it is only active when standing still. It would be way too powerful if it was time based and could be used while moving. I like that the overall setting of the games taking place in a simulation can allow for these kinds of unique abilities.

I do want to see a higher quality version of this video though. This video makes the game look incredibly soft, and I hope that is because of compression and not a return of the blurry as fuck AA that Unity used.

Chamaleon skill.... Lol

She is the super stealthy assassin but she kills the first templar guard and left the body on the ground while other guard (blue) was standing there 1 meter away, I didn't hear any alarm, are the blue guards allies?.

Like the video and I welcome the rope luncher but the feeling "is just the shame" can't be denied.

Does this game have the murder mysteries? Those were the secret best thing about Unity.

it's pretty sad, but I learned a lot about the assassination of Jean Paul Marat from that questline

God, that was awesome. Thanks for posting, Eden.

I hope there are way more of the black box missions, and I like it that stealth seems a more viable option. Stealth in Unity was very, very hard to maintain.

The one problem I had is that they had a genius mission that basically makes fun of the princess in a castle damsel in distress trope, and decided to inject the "next time I choose the escape root" line.

Not only are murder mysteries returning, but they possibly have dialogue trees.

Was your typical ac game right up until i saw the invisibility cloak. WHAT THE. The zipline thing was a bit far fetched but a futuristic cloak is a bit much.

Despite the animus crap most ac games were always set in that particular time period, so it just feels weird to me.

It's not necessarily a literal invisible cloak. Just a visual representation of how well she's blended in.
I just uploaded a stealth approach walkthrough of the same mission without the voiceover. I recorded this last week at Ubisoft, San Francisco.

Thank you, added to OP.

Way too much "gamey" stuff going on here. Nearly invisible if you're still, ugly ass (indicator?) ring around your character, the ability to illuminate the map and see every enemy. Icons and indicators everywhere. Ubi pls.

None of that short of the chameleon stuff is actually new to this game, though. Well, the ring is used in a different context, but doing things regarding stay inside or outside the perimeter of a ring, like eavesdropping missions, have been done for years now.

So from the sound of it, you can play as Evie for virtually the entire game except story missions where you have to play as Jacob?

LOL, that reminds me of the first gameplay demo. The guy was talking about what you could do with the stagecoaches and how "the possibilities are endless!"

Yeah... You can hide in a stagecoach or steal one and drive it yourself. The possibilities are endless...

Aside from letting a buddy npc take the reins, I'm really struggling to imagine what else is possible here. I will eat my hat if there's anything else you can do with the stagecoaches.

Main campaign is split between the two.

You can also ride on top of one to
-shoot the horses of carriages chasing you, which causes them to fall over which can hinder pursuers or get them off your back.
-jump onto another carriage and assassinate the driver to steal the carriage or fight on top
-defend yourself since enemies can do the same to you

Or
-berserk dart horses to make them trample enemies which also causes a general distraction in heavily guarded area

Just off the top of my head, pretty sure i'm missing a few things that've been stated(or outright shown).
Eat your hat.
Also a neat little thing that I don't think happens in many if any other open world games, depending on the type of npcs inside a stagecoach, they may or may not stop you from stealing their vehicle if there's multiple people driving.

Sorry that I was unclear, but my question was whether you can play as Evie anytime you want, except for Jacob's story missions. So between missions when I'm exploring and doing side stuff I can play as Evie?
Yes.

The split on missions is suppose to be 20-25% Evie and 75-80% Jacob.

You can free roam with Evie though so theres that.

Syndicate seems to be mostly a Jacob affair.
Gonna need to check your pms in a moment. Speaking of, different outfits for Jacob and Evie.

Yaasss.

I love a lot of the Ubisoft stuff and I can't lie, this looks really solid. An improvement over the last couple of AC games. I just can't help but feel with a lot of their games, Ubisoft has too much going on with the interface/menu. A lot of hand holding that isn't needed and I just find it intrusive.

For us non-insiders are you suggesting that split is wrong?
Possibly, I haven't had hands on with the game myself so all I know is what i've been told. ^_^

Not a super big fan of the "identify" thing. Like the chameleon move I hope that's optional and I can choose to do the mission things like stealing keys without directly being told what it does exactly.

Yaasss.

If you are part of the join the family thing for the new game there have a reward for another costume for Evie. It is called Nighthawk.

I've yet to redeem it as I don't know when/if I am going to get the game.

Im so done with AC now, its so stale and bland, nothing new here, looks identical to Unity and im sure it will be riddled with bugs

Already redeemed. What a sweet outfit. Almost feel like the default has too many layers.
