Assassin's Creed Unity - PC Performance thread

IMO the performance is even worse for me on PC with Patch 3. The villa still sees my FPS drop to single digits and I now somehow get stuttering when climbing up buildings too.

tbh, the game seems to run slightly worse after patch 3. Anyway, I don't expect the frame rate to be fixed. I own AC3, and I waited a few months for them to patch the low fps / stutter- none of the patches ever helped

Granted my game has not finished downloading but it's ok to play per Uplay, everytime I press continue ,the game crashes back to desktop. Is there a workaround to fix this?

Downgrade?

DS2 is that you?

Patch seems to have smoothed the framedrops. On GTX 980 with no AA or even FXAA and shadows to high it's now locked 60fps and doesn't drop a frame.

Doesn't seem like it increased the framerate, but it helps maintain whatever framerate without drops that you should be getting. The game would drop to 45-55 all the time prior to this.

Did a file recheck, it found few corrupt files, downloaded 2 MB data and no crashes since. Absolutely no performance improvement. Also, if I switch to Eagle vision, I get like 7-8 fps more.

Need help!

How do I change the resolution? I want to try 900p or something to help performance (got a 670). Only options in game are 1080 or 720 and performance is horrid with everything on low :(

Still haven't received a patch on PC uPlay. Should it just update when you start uPlay?

Also what version does the game read at the main menu in the bottom right?

The new patch let's me go online. Those that were suffering with the 0x0600001 error should give it another go. They get the Co-op working, and then all my buddies go to their families for T-Day, damn. More waiting for me. Still, everyone who had that issue should check to see if it's fixed now.

You have to play the game then a window appears and offers you the choice to upgrade or to play offline I think.

Still no patch on uPlay for me. How the hell does Steam get them first for an Ubisoft game?

Same thing happened for Far Cry 4.

Anyone else have an issue where the game's performance varies from one startup to the next?

I can start the game up now, and have the framerates stuck in the 30's with minor stutters happening on a regular basis.

Then I can exit, load the game up to the exact same spot, and have framerates in the 40's and no stutters.

The ToD is identical in both cases, as are the npc populations around my character. It's also consistent if I run throughout the whole city. As if my AC: Unity has dual personalities...

i feel like the games stutter more with patch 3 and the fps seems the same. the pop in are a little more frequent. i think gonna wait for patch 4 :(

That's weird. Where are you located? Maybe they are rolling it out at different times in different regions.

Wish there was a "check for updates" button instead of having to launch the game and hoping for a patch notice to pop up.

Europe here and I got the patch. Restart Uplay and see if the update shows up.
It won't improve your FPS by the way.

I've noticed this too. I thought it was just me. Checking in the options, sometimes I've noticed that the game will seeminly randomly switch from 60hz refresh to 50hz, which I don't know why and I wouldn't be surprised if it randomly changed to a lower refresh lock for you. Either way it's just a quick toggle to change it. Maybe give that a shot?

I don't know how people are taking these screenshots. I've played for hours and NEVER saw anything near this bad.

My PC isn't the culprit, you can see tons and tons of reports about broken LOD, textures loading late, crowd poping-in at random.

It does not distract me from the experience because pop-in and LOD issues are extremely common in open world PC ports, but it's ugly nonetheless.

Obviously this will never be fixed.

That LOD problem isn't a "bug". It's how the game is HORRIBLY balanced in how texture settings work on PC.

Anything lower than max textures loads mush textures in the distance. Only way to fix: textures higher than "high". There's no middle ground.

That's how much they care for the PC port: they didn't even tuned the quality of textures. On the other hand on consoles you get the equivalent of PC medium textures, but the distance LOD looks the same as PC "Ultra".

On PC you can't. Either you set textures to ultra or everything looks like shit. It's just the ultimate proof of careless PC port that wasn't even tested once.

Yeah, I've hated how they combine features into one toggle since AC3. Like in that one, I would've turned off tessellation, as it was a big resource hog on AMD cards at the time, but the only way to turn it off was to change the Environment setting, which resulted in worse LOD.

It honestly looks like the game is taking a while to load the textures.. does it continue to stay like that?

It does until I move closer. Should be noted that I'm using high and not ultra textures (but ultra LOD).
With textures set to max even distant textures look detailed enough but it's too much for my 3gb of VRAM.

LOD is not affected by ANY setting. Environmental detail only affects objects like chairs.

The screw ups in the screenshots aren't even LOD issues, they are low-textures issues and as I explained they are an "exclusive" of the PC port (consoles are fine even if using lower textures).

It's NOT a bug. A bug is something happening in certain situations. This is 100% reproducible by setting textures on High, because that's how "high" looks on PC. FOR EVERYONE. If someone says "I do not see that", they lie.

LOD, or the actual polygon detail, is THE SAME for everyone. For every hardware, including consoles. Only textures change (on PC). And "High" textures on PC look like shit because they are not optimized in any way and Ubisoft didn't even bother testing anything lower than Ultra. This is a fact.

Wow, thank god I went against people's recommendations and got a 4GB 770 instead of a 2GB one.

I was actually a bit surprised that consoles don't use ultra textures on PC, they look better than what's on PS4/XBO by a significant margin.

Even though it's not incredibly well optimized I like what I'm playing, it looks fantastic and runs well. Once I get my 970 (hopefully tomorrow) textures won't be a problem.

Yeah that was a good choice. My 3GB 780 hasn't really had a problem playing any games, but again I can't "Max Texture" most games now and settle for high textures with everything else being maxed out. That extra 1GB can make a difference. It doesn't really bother me though so. I'm going to upgrade if Nvidia ever announces and releases the 8GB 980. It's been an interesting wait reading everyones opinions on the cards and max setttings.

Im still having crashing problem after playing a bit. Kinda sucks.

Gotta ask. What is your temps when playing this, game on sli?

My frame rate has really dropped. I could get close to 60 fps in some ares with stuttering but now its constantly in the Low 30's. Pop-In and LOD problem still there.

Tell me if I'm crazy but it appears that the MSAA blur is no longer there. Prepatch MSAA appeared to have a similar blurring effect as FXAA. Now it looks far cleaner. I've noticed a weird shadow bug I was seeing in a hallway in Cafe Theatre has been fixed. Performance seems the same to me and changing settings in game still destroys performance, so you might as well restart after making changes.

Honestly I'd have to struggle to get a screen with LOD that bad with textures on High. It may certainly be a bug or something but 98% of the time the game doesn't look like that.

Wow I haven't seen anything remotely like that. I've had no problems with Ultra Textures on 4GB of Vram though, luckily. VRAM usage seems to be very stable at 3.5 GB with SLI GTX 970s.

Here's 1.2 video I captured (this time unlocked framerate no vsync) so I had a good baseline for comparison when the patch released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re8N8RQcvUY

Yeah, I haven't seen anything like that on my GTX 970 with 4GB of VRAM. It must be an issue on cards that have too little VRAM or when using lower texture settings, because the textures for me always look excellent. I've never seen any LOD issues like that either.

I fully agree with that. Even on my GTX 770 with 2GB of VRAM I can't ever remember seeing a situation that bad, and the vast majority of the time the textures looked good, albeit not as detailed as the ultra textures I play with now on my GTX 970.

As far as I can tell, LOD and pop in appear the same at max settings. A lot of the patch notes involve AI behavior. I'm trying to keep my eye out on that, it's a harder thing to confirm.
