As Ubisoft once said:

"Unexpected consequences have risen"

the new patch comes for pc later in the week, and lists this

PC-Specific
Fixed crash on "Quit to Windows" in free roam mode
Fixed crash on accepting multiple "Join the club" requests
Fixed issues with TXAA
Fixed issues with PCSS
Fixed issues with textures on NPCs
Fixed black texture issues on MSAA-4x, MSAA-8x and TXAA
Right Control now can be assigned as a hotkey
Minor UI fixes

looking forward to seeing if they actually fixed txaa. wonder what the issues with pcss were, didnt notice anything wrong with it.

Guess Tessellation has been dropped.

“Part of the team’s effort to enhance frame rate for players involves replacing and updating portions of the Paris city map where we are seeing issues,” the company writes. “This explains the large size of this title update (6.7 GB). However, since a large portion of the patch replaces existing files the net increase to the game’s overall size will be less than 6.7 GB.

We reached out to Ubisoft to get more information about the work done on Unity's map. The publisher tells us that there should be no perceptible changes to the game other than improved frame rate and there have been no downgrades of any sort."

At what point do we buy a game and expect it to be complete, i commend them for continuing to update and patch the bugs, all games will have them but seemingly though, there is a fairly sizable overhaul still continuing.

It feels as if we have purchased the Gold and got a beta.

Isn't this the last patch?

Aimed at fixing issues yes. That absolutely does not mean there won't be another one for tessellation.

A post-release update will introduce gamers to our GeometryWorks DirectX 11 Advanced Tessellation technology, which enables developers to quickly and easily generate tessellation displacement maps from pre-existing assets, and to efficiently integrate tessellation rendering into their engines with minimal work. Furthermore, our tessellation tech comes pre-packaged with adaptive tessellation factor calculation and frustum culling, making widescale usage a reality in open-world games like Unity.

You're not a hero for putting out a fire you started

Quick question: Is the pop-in/up on PC as bad as on the consoles or can you finetune the settings to reduce/eliminate them?

I have the choice to play this on the PS4 or on my PC (Core i5 Quad, GTX 750 Ti 2GB, 8GB RAM). With PS4-equal graphical settings, I should be able to play this @ a pretty consistent 30fps, right? That'd be fine by me.

Unlikely.
Your CPU is too weak and your GPU will barely do as well as a PS4, besides with only 2gb of VRAM textures will look like crap.
In your case PS4 is a better option.

Pop-in is everywhere on PC anyway (not as bad as consoles though), even at max LOD.

Very interesting, I though high textures and 2gb would mix very well at all.
I still express reserves about his CPU.
All he mentioned is that he has an i5. There are certianly i5 CPU capable of running this game at console settings. I'd be surprised if the difference between an i5 4670k and an i7 4970k is significantly different if clocked around the same.

His call at the end of the day but I'd not expect anything substiantially better compared to the experience he will have on consoles.

Aye, cool. It's a Core i5-3470T, with 2.9 GHz up to 3.6 GHz.

I think I'll give the PC version a try, seeing that in the video he's able to run the game with comparable specs pretty alright at or above 30fps which seems to still be better than the console version after the latest patch. :/

I wouldn't be so sure about that. In the bench video he is still located in Versailles which doesn't tank performance nearly as much as when running around in Paris. But who knows, maybe we'll get a hefty FPS boost when patch 4 arrives for PC...

Patch 4 seems to be out. Steam is downloading a 2.9 gb large file.

First short impressions: patch 4 introduced a strong texture flimmering comparable to the issues I have with Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Running the game with 2x 980Gtx with the 344.75 drivers. Going to download the latest beta drivers now. Let's hope this solves my problem. The flimmering destroys the immersion for me, it's unplayable.

Update:
Installing the 347.09 beta drivers didn't resolve the flimmering texture problem. Disabling Sli did the job, which is not really an option for me...

I'll just leave this here:

An i5 is really not going to be an issue running console ports when they have their laughable Jaguar cores, given that they have to make sure multi-threading is working properly to get the most out of them we will actually get better performance than on older titles that bottlenecked on 1-2 cores.

There are shimmering bits and pieces everywhere, particularly on the ground. This didn't happen before. Pop in is still rampant, I don't even see the new 'effect' that I saw in a GIF yesterday. I put AA to MSAAX4 and then could barely exit the menu as it slowed down so much. I went from 60FPS to 10FPS (yes, 10) by changing that one setting

So it's worse and I notice no improvement in any way. I actually thought I had it pretty good before, but I haven't played it in weeks.

How are PC users not raging about this?

GTX980s in SLI, i7 2600K. 16GB RAM

I don't know if you restarted but the game reacts horribly when changing settings mid game. I haven't played since the patch came out so I don't know what has changed though.

Yeah, I just noticed that. When I relaunched it with the new settings it wasn't as bad. So changing options in game makes it lose 80% of the frames... right.

The loading of the game + intro + menu etc takes over a minute. That must be great for experimenting with various settings.

I launch MGSV:GZ today, from a Japanese developer who hasn't made a Metal Gear Solid PC game in over 11 years, and I can max it out on 2560x1440 with 60FPS. I can even increase it to 4K with 60FPS. No issues.

I launch AC:U, after weeks of waiting for decent patches, there are more issues than before, I can't even play it as well as I could before, and this is from a developer who pumps out games on PC on a yearly basis.

Fucking incredible. Go to hell Ubisoft.

My old i7 930 runs this game fine at 60fps. Like the graph shows, all you need is an old AMD CPU for 30fps which is roughly what the six cores of a AMD Jaguar is worth. Consoles have medium to high textures according to Eurogamer, you just have to avoid MSAA and TXAA, it will really tank peformance.

Does the 1.4 patch unlock the legendary items? Apparently on console they're unlocked now.

I'm on 1.3 on PC running pretty well and don't want to update until I know for sure there's no downgraded parts. If they unlock it would be more worth updating.

have people tried the new Nvidia beta drivers for MGS? They supposedly increase performance on the high end I'm going to mess around with it and check out how it looks in 3D.

So, patch 4 seems to have fixed almost everything that was wrong to me. yay it works near 60fps finally!! NOT, Now alot of ground textures flicker like crazy, and it had never done that before... WTF (it's definitely an SLI issue)

my rig:

I7 950 OC'd to 4Ghz
6GB RAM
GTX 760 SLI

anyone else?

As someone who doesn't own the game- I'm wondering- where is the performance issue popping up for most people? I've seen the videos of Paris with a ton of crowded people, is that where the performance issues mostly arise; or is it a general lackluster performing game?

I really want to buy it and put my PC downstairs because I honestly believe the visuals are out of this world, but I'm deathly afraid for my 280X.

What I'm trying to ask is- Is it ok to buy the game now? I'm waiting for the bomba, but I just want reassurance my card isn't shit :/.

Sometimes it can be tainted glass windows and sometimes it can be a crowd of people or sometimes it happens right after a cutscene. It just has weird dips at odd places

Just tried it with 980 SLI. Tons of flicker on the ground. Can't tell if it's a Nvidia latest patch issue or Ubisoft.

Holy hell this patch and the latest nvidia drivers have boosted my fps to a constant 60fps on max settings at 1080p with FXAA.

NPC pop in seems better but still very noticeable.

i7 4790k + 980GTX.

performance is identical for me, but i can confirm TXAA is fixed and now provides amazing IQ. game looks so much better 98% free of all aliasing.

Is Patch 4 already available on Uplay?

Anyone get a stutter for like a second before entering your 1st battle after booting the game all subsequent battles are fine its really odd

My performance seems to have taken a hit after the update under certain conditions (specifically near the cafe)...

do I attribute this to PCSS actually working now?

On that note, soft shadows look amazing. Can't believe what I never knew I was missing

Yes, I also get a short stutter when traveling between sections of the map the first couple of times after booting. After 5 minutes or so I see no more hitching until I restart the game. Typical Ubisoft Jank.

Not seeing much change performance wise but some bugs are improved. I'm on a mission where you're supposed to have the mission giver distract some bad guys while you steal some stuff and pre-patch he would always stop and get stuck and not provide the distraction. I loaded up and was doing the mission and was surprised to see him actually helping out this time.

I noticed that the new Nvidia beta drivers really helped in getting a locked 60fps with near max settings on my 970. I haven't tried out patch 1.4 yet, does that improve performance on the high end?

Also can anyone comment on how patch 1.4 works on a 750ti? I got tired of using mostly low settings on my 860m laptop to achieve 30fps, and patch 1.3 dropped me to the mid 20's while running/fighthing.
