Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

Ok cancelling my pre order on this now. After the train wreck that was/is parity to the frame rate to now how bad the game is.

I was getting it cheap but I'm not wasting any money now.

So does this mean developers are now the gold farmers?

You pay for a game. You shouldn't pay around the game unless it's an expansion.

This shit needs to stop.

So many things to be embarrassed about with this industry right now.

Wait!

Is is fake? I don't believe they have F2P iap in a 60€ game.

But then there's optional but questionable stuff like this, a real-money way to obtain the game's optional "hack" currency instead of using the in-game currency you earn by finishing most missions...

http://kotaku.com/assassins-creed-unity-the-kotaku-review-1657368877

It's in the Kotaku review. I haven't received my copy yet, so I haven't gotten the chance to see it in game.

For a game like this? A fucking disaster on paper.

Still sounds like hyperbole to me. From what I played so far this game suffers from two very distinct problems. 1. The formula has not changed much AT ALL and isn't even close to the revolutionary shift Ubi claimed in their videos. 2. The technical issues seems more than noticeable. I appreciate the changes to the parkour system and it does fix some problems but it seems that it causes even more problems that frustrate the hell out of me. With all that being said I do think that the game is enjoyable. When I think of train wreck I think of Driveclub where it is fundamentally broken. This game isn't broken, it just suffers from being pretty stale.

I wish Joe would review this one and tear it apart, but I don't know if he even cares about AC.

Yeah i don't think that he care about ac... but i'd love to see an angry review about this.

A little ot: I'm still waiting his infamous second son review, a game that he even put in the list of his 20 most anticipated game of this year... i don't undertand why he didn't do a review about that game, and it's a pity, knowing his love for superheros.

I wish this was a surprise, but there has been a steady drumbeat of bad impressions leading up to this moment.

To the industry at large: For fuck's sake stop selling unfinished games.

That is disappointing. Sure it didn't live up to the hype and promise, but Destiny was and is not the broken mess AC Unity is...

All told, glitches are one of the least important aspects of games. Even poor frame rate cannot overcome great game design.

Unfortunately AssCreed also has bad game design (not played Unity but it does not seem to change things up much). I wish the reviews focused on that instead.

Customers: Stop buying annualized franchises. Please :(

holy fucking shit. He says Shay is the most interesting AC character ever, and this is the AC with the most story!?

goddayum. It's like Rogue is the complete opposite of Unity.

Unity; amazing graphics, boring main character and story.

Rogue; last gen graphics, awesome main character and story.

man.. this is confusing.
I loved Shay. Its like playing a little bit of Boondock Saints:) But the best part of Rogue is that finally someone says "What the F*ck are we doing?" to the rest of their clan. Its an engaging story that ties a ton of things together for me.

One thing is sure it's not this game that will make me like Assassins Creed.

Sounds like Rogue might be that game actually as you're playing as a dude on the other team. That video review from a page back says Rogue was the best AC story of all of them and one of his favorite main characters of all time.

Wait!

Is is fake? I don't believe they have F2P iap in a 60€ game.

This is real. They're called Helix Credits and they're an alternate way to buy stuff. a Sword may cost 25,000 in in-game money, or 800 Helix Credits.

Is there even anything worthwhile in those chests? I the previous ACs it usually was a bunch of money and sometimes ammunition. If that's the case here as well I'll probably just completely ignore them.

Pretty much the same here. Mostly money. I think a few of the gold ones (AC Initiates account required) contain outfits, like Edward's.

"I tried to open a treasure chest, but was told I needed the Assassin’s Creed companion app to open it, with no additional information or context.

I tried to open another treasure chest, and was told I needed to sign up for Assassin’s Creed Initiates to open it."

Holy crap! Talk about taking you out of the experience.

This is seriously gross, and should be really concerning.

Immersion is one of the most significant aspects of a game, and games that blatantly break that player-to-game connection in order to have more marketability are knowingly making themselves worse games in the hopes of bigger cash flows. This game literally turns opening a treasure chest, a really fun moment in any other game, and turns it into an opportunity to leave the game, log on to a computer, and enter some e-mail and password information.

Game companies are knowingly degrading the quality of our games, and we shouldn't be taking it. These critics shouldn't be taking it, either. I am not going to be buying Assasain's Creed: Unity.

Wow, that's seriously awful. WTF Ubisoft?

I was surprised to find that some chests actually have clothes in them. I only found a few, and only in higher level locked chests (not sure if they all required level 3 lockpick or not though). Otherwise it's only money, but you actually need it a lot since money is actually harder to come by in ACU than in any other AC game. Especially the stuff you can renovate doesn't get you much money at all, with a rather ridiculous chest size to boot (like 800F with almost all renovated, that's ridiculously low when a high level chest can net you 4000). So yeah, I really went for every chests I found this time.
Huh, alright. I'm actually somewhat happy that the made the chests more valuable, but that they had to include all those online/companion app shenanigans sounds pretty annoying.

Hmm IGN and Polygon review are positive in my opinion when you read them. But score is lower. Then you read Kotaku review and everything that was positive in IGN and Polygon review they said it is dull or negative.

Interesting. I need to read other reviews now.

I'm enjoying it so far. The setting is really helping on that front. But I can see why it is getting slammed. It is wonky and the frame rate drops a lot, but it really hasn't borhered me much to the point of hating the game.

I'm not at all a stealth game player, so I honestly couldn't really tell you. I thought it looked quite a bit like what they did in SC, and I have no doubt they simplified it a lot since I managed to actually use the system and even enjoy it, which never happened to me ever in the stealth elements of any AC ever before.

Much better maybe not. They tweaked it a bit with the new perfect counter system, but mainly they made fights against more than 3 people (at higher level at least) much more challenging. I died quite a few times when running around trying to find the chests in the most difficult districts of the city only to find them with 4 or 5 high level guards on it. It's the first AC game where I actually used the smoke bombs to run off a fight.

Thanks blimblim, will probably pick this up in a few months, if i can get a good deal on it.

Pretty much how I feel so far. Love the setting and the atmosphere but the technical issues are annoying.

Some people have played more Assassin's Creed than others. I know I skip side missions and go straight to the plot or I skip the collectibles all together. Some people love it and some people never wanted to play another AC after the original.
