Astral Chain Review Thread

88 is actually my personal cut-off point for MUST PLAY. The fact it's also Platinum makes this a DOUBLE MUST PLAY.

i hope the plot is good, hearing some dude that worked in Nier automata is working on this is THE reason i was/am interested in this game at all

So is this a combat game, or adventure game?
Is kind of both, it between being linear like Bayonetta and open area to explore like Automata.

I hate disappoint you, but Automata's story Is all Yoko Taro and his not working on this game, it's lead designer behind Automata is the one directing this.

I would read reviews, it seems the combat and action is good, but the rest of the game is somewhat meh, and there are areas that feel like a slog (mostly the ones out if combat). If you are expecting another bayonetta or rising, you may not be pleased. Not crapping on the game, just giving fair warning so you don't get buyer's remorse.

I'm seeing advertisements for this game everywhere. It did catch my eye, nice to see it has reviewed well.

To me it perfect length for an action game like this, not all games needs to 60-100 hour long.
Yep, specially this kind of game. I've replayed bayoneta 1-2 and DMC 3 countless times. I love starting the game, finishing a mission, kick ass and log out.
If the game keeps a score, like most platinum games, even better.

Oh Boy... I never expected this game to be reviewed this well. I guess I'm gonna need to buy it real fast. Good job Platinum.

IGN review says yes.

No stylish action game is complete with [sic – proofread people!] a rankings system, and in Astral Chain you're graded for each "case" you complete in a mission, as well as given an overall grade at the end. I've already gone back to try to raise my grade in several missions by maximizing style and speed and minimizing damage taken.

I guess most people seem surprised as well but for me the Threehouse gameplay footage completely sold me on this game regardless what review score it would have gotten.

Platinum games have magicians in her team.Absolutely gorgeous rewiews so far for this game.Shame tha don't have a Nintendo switch

There are tons of dudes who work on every big game and the vast majority have nothing to do with the story plot.

I was already sold on the game way before the Threehouse segment. I'm just impressed how the media is swallowing it all up too. The reviews made me put the game way above everything else I had planned to buy.

You would think they would let actual fans comment on the game before someone tries to rip it apart for silly reasons. Its like trying to relate JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to real world events. I feel like some of these "journalists" are a complete separation from people I've enjoyed video games with over the years.

He also complains that the game doesn't force him to experiment because higher difficulties being unlockables, plus, this is a bit absurd - game doesn't go nuts on Neon Genesis Evangelion settings. He's disappointed for that he says.

Also the game should touch on ma heavy heavy issues and should be developed with that focus in mind.

This is crazy, It might have inspiration from EVA in terms how Legions function but the game was never trying to be Evangelion or touch on real life police issues, heck this game was going have Fantasy setting at first but they went with futuristic setting because Nintendo told them bunch of others done Fantasy setting already. Taru's goal with this game was to have "Synergetic Action" for this game and story and setting came after that.

I wish Digital Foundry would do an analysis soon. From the videos I've seen it looks super smooth 30. I like proper frame paced games.

Resolution no clue.

Nintendo is absolutely killing it this year. We've still got Pokemon coming up too. I'm still playing fire emblem so I'll get Astral Chain further down the line.

I hope people have learned to not actually take Metacritic scores very seriously. Remember that Metacritic has Godhand at 73 despite it being one of Platniums (clover studios) best games. Game reviewers are hardly ever as qualified as the average gamer to actually review something.

In my experience is best to find a small group of reviewers or friends that you trust and base a game purchase off of that or see what games create the most dedicated fan bases.
