Astrobot demo gameplay (off screen)

Fuck I had to sell my PS5 for personal reasons but now I want a new one... This game seem awesome. I hate VR since I go a PSVR but this is the only game I enjoyed in VR, I wouldn't go as far as people saying that it's ground breaking as Mario 64 was (let's be serious) but that's a REALLY good platformer. And Astro's Playroom was also awesome.

Will have to sell some Switch games to get a ps5 for this. <3

That gameplay looks fun. Some Mario Sunshine and Sonic Adventure vibes, which I don't think is a bad thing at all.

I'm probably the biggest Mario fanboy I know, and I don't get why people are upset that this game looks like a "ripoff" of Galaxy. Having more 3D platformers with Nintendo-levels of quality and polish is AWESOME. This is the first 3D platformer I've seen that looks like it can actually give Mario a run for its money.

I seriously can't wait for this. It's the most excited I've been for a game in a long time.

Question is can it beat Mario scores. Some people got me a bit wrong, I don't see anything bad in copying market leader(if done right), but when you are all so enthusiastic about Astro bot like a second coming, it would be sensible to mention leader in this genre and don't ignore the fact that game, probably better one is on the market for couple of years now.

Who cares for the alleged leader or which is the better game. I can easily tell you which one is the most technically advanced, but that's a childish discussion.

They'd skin you alive for scoring this higher than Mario.

Agreed, as if using the same design philosophies from the best 3D platformer(s) of the modern age would in any way be a bad thing. The fact that we're (seemingly) getting another new 3D platformer of Mario caliber is nothing but a blessing!
god is real GIF

Literally who cares, if you like platformers you have already played Mario Odyssey which is 7 years old already. The thirst is real.

the real question is:

Q: isn't Mario games reviewed with rose tinted glasses due nostalgia ?

Dont get me wrong, i love M64 and Galaxy and agree 100% with these games scores, but 3D world and Odyssei have such inflated reviews that it baffles me, they are just "GOOD" 3D Mario's at best.

If Astrobot is good as Playroom was the game deserver an 90+ at minimum, if Playroom was a Nintendo Mario game i m 100% certain that would had reviewed way way better and you know it.

Not in my opinion, at least. It all boils down to the gameplay and level design, and that remains top-tier in basically every Mario game. I don't play Mario games because I like Mario, I like Mario because the games are so good.

My favorite genre is platformer, so I feel like it makes sense in my case.

Here's some direct feed footage. Mostly the same levels, and the audio is fucking horrendous. But it looks awesome.

Edit: here's an alternate capture with slightly better audio.

I would agree with you but again, look at Odyssei, is barely a plataform game ( at least imo ) and it has barely any real challenge to it and yet sits at 97 on MC, again, dont get me wrong, is a good game and that's it, nothing amazing about it, 90% of the moons are so easy to get that sometimes i was just getting bored at groundpounding the floor or lifting stones to find the most annoying ones.

Just look at Sand Kingdom

aside from 2 ice caves and the "secret rocket stage" u have barely any platform to do it, you want to know how to climb to the top of that structure ? just turn into a bullet bill and thats is for 90% of the game.

Like i said if Playroom was a Mario game it would be siting at 90+ easy.

I do agree that Odyssey has some pacing issues in how the moons are collected, but I personally think it deserves a 90+ score. The first time playing through that game was just such an awesome experience. It doesn't have as much replayability as other Mario games, but it makes such an incredible first-playthrough impression that it's not surprising how high the scores are.

I definitely disagree about the platforming, though. Sure there are some plain areas, and you showed off perhaps the most boring one, but there is a shitload of excellent level design in that game, all strung together in semi-open worlds. It's great.

I think Playroom also deserves a 90+, but it does get docked a few points for it being so short (obviously), and how boring the music is.

I think we finally have full footage of the tutorial level, but it looks like we're still missing Construction Derby (the other level available on the demo).

Also, this video has the Kratos and Atreus cutscene at the end of the boss battle, which was holy cute.
I've noticed that you have to rescue two VIP bots from each series in all these levels; Ratchet/Rivet, PaRappa/Lammy, Kratos/Atreus, while in the speedrun challenges it's just one; Jak and the traveler from Journey thus far. I'm guessing it will remain the same for the rest of the game, though some levels could have more than two VIP bots.

In an ideal world the inspiration wouldn't be so evident but this looks so good and there are so few games like the Galaxy titles that tbh, I don't even care.

All I need to know is how smooth and responsive are the controls and if they're pinnacle, it's mine.

Slippery or janky? No Bueno for platformers.

The move set is a little more simple than most 3D Mario titles but the controls, judging by past entries, are rock solid.

Looks awesome. I feel like Astros voice/vocalization has changed, but I'd get use to it. Overall, stoked for this and by the looks of that demo it does not disappoint

Yeah I noticed that too. I'm pretty sure he's being voiced by Chris Pratt now.
