Asus ROG press conference: New Console/Gaming PCs, 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor, more

Not everyone turns their gaming room into cave. And most of all, the laptop is supposed to be used in many rooms instead of being tied to one. That's what desktops are for.

My post is directly below post talking about ROG swift g-sync monitor....

Yeah, a laptop with a glossy display makes no sense. If you don't move it (and that's the only situation where you might want glossy) then get a desktop and a monitor.

That's your opinion - I'd never trade glossy screen of my Y580 for the matte screen of the dells we use at work.

And work is only place when matte screens make sense as you usually have little control on where you are forced to sit.

The GR8 seems like SFF for a SteamBox done right. If it lands at around $600-$700 then that's a promising box.

Except that these Korean monitors have proven its entirely possible. Well, not 144hz, but 120hz at least.

Do they have good response times? I'm well aware that you can push refresh rates on those panels, but that means nothing if the pixels cause massive amounts of ghosting and the only solution is more input lag. Granted, I've never tried one of those monitors myself, so I'd love to hear otherwise.

They generally don't have any input lag. Those screens are direct-driven, which is also why they are overclockable. Some specific color transitions are not the fastest, but that is mitigated by the higher refresh rates.

Personally, I'd much rather have a slightly slower PVA G-sync screen than a faster TN.

Urgh TN panel on the monitor is a shame. I would really like to get an official 120hz+ 1440p monitor and not a get a overclocked one.

4K 32"+ VA/IPS 120Hz Gsync or bust. No interest in TN panels of any price.

This wont be news to you, but anyone waiting for this will be doing so for some considerable time and there likely wont be anything this year. To drive such a panel you'll probably need DisplayPort 1.3 or HDMI 2.0 at least.

Why are PC gamers targeted with the nastiest, edgy product design?

I think ROG is the most toned down out of pcgaming brands to be honest. That laptop and GPU look great, not just "great for gaming laptop". and those mini PCs are also nice looking.

I'm fine on my U3014 and will be waiting for as long as it takes. Won't be spending money on half-assed 'gaming' products with awful image quality.
4K is an overkill till 20nm GPUs anyway. Even 2560x1600 is too much for current GPUs to handle with 60 fps and AA.
